View Full Version : Gotta give SFMW the love...

Hey all. I just have to give some love to my favorite thrill park, SFMW. Especially to Medusa, that greenish-yellow queen of looping steel. I really think SFMW is an underrated park here in California. Not just California, but everywhere. A lot of people talk about SFMM and the new coaster record they'll get in a few months, which is big, granted. Then there is Disneyland, DCA and Knott's. Even PGA gets more attention than SFMW it seems. I really think that if more enthusiasts came to the park and saw what a fine job they've done in transforming it into a thrill destination in California, they'd appreciate it a little more. With the addition of V2, SFMW will be the best Northern California park imo. Just thought I'd share some of my thoughts about the park. Anyone agree or disagree? Peace. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I was at SFMW last summer and absolutely loved it. It put PGA to shame I thought. It is a beautifully themed park, with a great and growing collection of coasters, and also has a great collection of animals. I hope to get back down there again this summer. Peace out

i am going this summer and i know that it is better than PGA, i absoloutly hated PGA, i waited @ HOURS for that 1:30 second piece of crap stealth. the other part that $%*!#$ me off is that i spent 45 MINUTES in the station. then i got in line for top gun, closed down right as i got to the station. then i got out of line (They made us) and went to vortex. i waited 20 minutes and was next to ride when it broke down.
<BR>anyway back on topic i do think SFMW is underrated cause it has a fine collection
<BR>and as god spoke unto coasterman, he stated "and though shall respect spiderman, for ith is the greatest creation of mankind!"<BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: BryanWood on 2001-05-04 15:46 ]</font>

Coasterman, sounds like you don't like PGA much. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> Man, you had a rough outing at the park. I too have been there when the rides break down, but it's a great park overall imo. Not better than SFMW, but a great park nonetheless. In contrast, however, Medusa was down last Sunday, and Roar broke down with peeps on the lift, they had workers up there talking with them when I left the park. But SFMW still blows PGA away imo. Peace. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I hear ya' man! I believe the reason for SFMW being so underrated is its location (Vallejo, whereas PGA is much more centrally oriented in Santa Clara) and its advertising. I mean, have you even seen the new SFMW commercial? It promotes SFMM fer cryin' out loud. PGA's commercial is much more "likeable" and promotes PGA, not any other Paramount park. But from what I have experienced, this is how I compare the parks:
<BR>PGA- Vortex, Top Gun, Demon, Stealth, Invertigo, and Psycho Mouse.
<BR>SFMW- Medusa, Kong, Boomerang, V2, and Cobra.
<BR>Winner-PGA (although Medusa is the BEST!)
<BR>Winner-SFMW by far! ROAR rocks!
<BR>PGA- old style rides, Drop Zone, 7th Portal, Orbit, and Triple Play.
<BR>SFMW- new style rides (Voodoo, Hammerhead, Jambo, and Starfish)
<BR>PGA- Yankee Clipper, Roaring Rapids
<BR>SFMW- Whitewater SeaFari
<BR>Winner-PGA (although WSF is awesome!)
<BR>PGA- aimed towards families, with a few MAJOR thrill rides (Drop Zone, Stealth, Top Gun, Invertigo, and Vortex).
<BR>SFMW- aimed towards families, lots of thrill rides (ROAR, Kong, Medusa, Voodoo, Hammerhead, Boomerang, and V2)
<BR>And SFMW wins it 3-2. I have one more thing to say though: when I see all of my friends when the weeknd is over, where have they all gone? Great America. Perhaps I shhould get new friends...

It's nice but isn't a good home park (it was mine last year). It just doesn't keep you busy but overall it is an awsome park.
