A flame is basically a rude comment, insult, disrespectful response, etc. The harsher or meaner that it is, the bigger flame.
<BR>A flame war is a string of posts where people continuously flame each other, often getting meaner in tone through the string, and where anything legitimate being said is pretty much ignored.
<BR>Think of it as an online version of a screaming match. Noone is listening to anyone else but are more than happy to tell everyone around them what idiots they are.

A few more people staying away from them does a lot of good.

I hang my head in shame saying this, but it is hard for a lot of people to avoid them, including myself. I tell myself to keep my mouth shut, but it is too easy to open it when you are "safe" sitting behind your computer where nobody can hit you for saying something.
<BR>Sadly, I have spewed a bunch of junk on this site, and others, that I should be ashamed of myself for. There is a saying that goes..."Character is who you are when nobody else is looking". What does it say about ourselves when we get into these silly "verbal" wars, yelling in each other's eyes? I guess the saying needs to be updated in this cyber age...."Character is who you are when nobody KNOWS who you are!"

As mom always said, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
<BR>Also, before flaming someone for an opinion they had, assume the person is 8 or 9 years old. Why argue with a child?

Flaming is nothing more than " I am right you are wrong" behavior. Thats why I use "sometimes" the IMO symbol.

A flame war is an online argument between 2 people that grows into just name-calling.

A flame war is name-calling and harassment between two immature people who don't realize how lucky they are to have a great message board.

A Flame war is a great example of what is going on in "Gay Days at Disney" topic - check it out!
