I think he did a good job, he didn't back down from China, unlike Gore who would've been like "Yeah, you can keep the plane. Oh whats that? You'll pay $15 million to my campaign if I let you explore the plane and find out some of the technology. Sure, you can do that, but I want my 15 mill by tomorrow before anyone gets suspicious."

Umm, guys- didn't you figure out that you're asking for trouble with this topic? Look at what happened to the other thread and where it went. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not see a repeat.
Besides, I think that most of what could be said about this was said in the other thread.

Okay, a few ground rules before this topic gets out of hand again.

First of all keep the discussion on topic. Last time it somehow turned into a religious argument and we had to shut it down.

If you have some fact that you would like to share that supports your argument, post a url from the source you got this fact from. If you can not come up with a news report to back up your claim, it will be considered to be just your opinion. The best sites to find information from are CNN.com, The Associated Press, and Yahoo!

Be respectful. Please, no flame wars. Do not attack each other personally. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should not be attacked for it.
By keeping these in mind hopefully this disucssion can stay calm and rational.
Now, that being said, it is my opinion that Dubbya is a blithering moron who will run this country into the ground.
- You people need to get your heads out of your ass! I just came back from Europe and gas is $5.00 a gallon there! You know how they deal with it? They drive less. Defending the Bushter....
1.) He handle the situation with China pretty well. Didn't make a big crisis out of it, and the whole affair went down pretty quietly. This kind of issue can get out of hand real fast, but under GW's leadership, it went down quietly.

2.) TAX CUT!!! This rebate you'll be getting this summer is only the beginning. Wait till you see the cuts on your 2001 tax forms.

3.)Gas Prices. Actually, where I'm from gas prices are down from last year. Last year at this time, regular gas was selling at over $2.00 a gallon. Currently, gas prices are at $1.57.

4.) Missile defense. The argument for this is the same as the arugment for alternative fuels. Sure, alternative fuels don't work now, but with more R & D eventually they will. Same with missile defense. Personally, I think it's a more moral position than MAD.

5.) Tim McVeigh. It was the Bush administration that exposed the ineptness of the previous administration's justice department. Why didn't the Clinton/Gore adminstration ever bring forth the missing documents. WHy did it take Ashcroft to have the guts and honesty to correct this mistake?

6.) Bush hasn't burn any religious compounds filled with kids to the ground yet. Something the previous adminstration had already accomplished at this point.

well,Nosk8er, it didn't take you long to turn to name calling. Typically, name calling is the first sign of a weak argument. Let's get to the second sign, your math. You say the tax cut is based on Fuzzy Math. You appear to state that every tax payer should be given an equal amount of money back on this return. According to your math, this figure should be $8888. Well, how can I get back $8888.00 if I didn't pay that much in? Seems to me, you simply want to get money for nothing. The tax cut is simple, if you don't pay taxes, then you don't get a savings. Hey, I see microsoft is ofering rebates to everyone that buys Encarta. That's so unfair, they should just send everyone money whether they buy the product or not. You claim Cheney is getting $2,000,000.00 back in tax cuts. Where do you get this figure from. I'm challenging you on this figure, I think your wrong. Where does this figure come from? If you didn't compute this yourself, where did you get this from?

As far as the abolition in 10 years on the tax cut, well guess what, it was the democrats that called for this and right now, as I write this a group of republicans is working to change it. You see, we want it permanent.

Maybe I'm slow but what do you mean by this:

"the budget is already proposturously over rated and the mistakes will come out of medicare and social securuty which is already likely to come up short because of baby boomers

if the same amount of money was spent towards public works projects an estimated 10000 for every man woman and child in public works could be achieved "

The budget is over rated? huh?
10000 of what could be achieved?

Warning, I've worked in federal and state government all my life. and there's something you need to know. no where is private industry is there as much waste in spending as there is in government. I've seen the government pay people hundreds of dollars per hour to do nothing! I'm talking of upwards of $250 per hour. I'm not kidding! Don't give the government your money. Keep it for yourself. Start a business, invest in oil if you think it's gonna make so much money. But get your taxes lowered as much as possible. Also, don't expect the government to give you something for nothing, that's lazy.

P.S. Please quit with the name calling. The moment you begin calling people names you turn others against you and your argument is lost before you even start. Name calling is wrong, it's mean, it's illogical and it's a losing way to conduct and argument.

people people people i would love to continue this debate as long as you have a good argument left.

First of all i call him the dubya because it is an easy way to distinguish him from his father.

Im sorry that i dont take the time to spell check my posts i know it is spelled "feul" but does the dubya know that it is not subliminable or strategery?

10,000 is a figure that i did calculate its a little over not more than a little though because i estimated about 200 million tax payers the figure is more like 8000 but that is still one helluva lot

and im not saying that people should be getting back more money than they pay i agree that people who pay more shoulkd get back more, but a greater percentage, if anything thew largest percentage cuts should go to the lower. but im sure that none of you want social security and medicare to go bankrupt do you? that kind of money could reinforce it.

My saying that the budget is fantastically overrated is from reliable sources, TIME magazine has weekly reports on this, the LA times has numerous articles. Ill send u links if you really need.

And one more thing i do go to public school and i am only sixteen most of you republicans are college educated (that is not a characterization) ((that was not sarcasm)) so if you cant win an arguement w/ a sixteen year old from an urban public school then the system cant be that bad

Sir Willow
06-15-2001, 08:26 PM
Nosk8r, hate to inform you of this, but Time magazine and the LA Times are not the most balanced of info sources out there. They are both known as liberal media giving a very slanted view of the news that they do report and leaving much out that disagrees with them. For some different views, check out US News and World Report or on tv try FoxNews. You might be surprised at the difference.

You also bring up a good point about the college degrees, though your numbers estimate is a bit off. But think about the role that education plays there.

This last last bit is not meant as a put down either. But at 16 there is much that you have not experienced that can, and likely will, affect your views. Including working full time to support yourself, paying bills and taxes out of that pay, expecting certain services that affect your role in society. OH, and just wait til you eventually get married and have kids. Boy will that change a lot of how you think!

Again, it's not putting you down. A lot of good has come from the young before they had to deal with those things. But your views and opinions will change as you get older.

Oh, one last thing- might want to check those numbers again. And here is something that Time leaves out for you: the richest 5% of the population pays between 25 and 35% of the overall taxes in this country. Doesn't that seem a bit unbalanced to you?

yes it is very obvious that time is very liberal because all of their editors always have something bad to say about bush (i sure do like that magazine)
I am only 16, However there are 4 things i am very opinonated and well informed about rollercoasters, education, soccer and politics.

However, if you read most of my posts you would realize that most of my opinions are clear minded, (such as the fact that there will be a rollercoaster recession) and i keep my opinions open.

The figure that cheney will make 2,000,000 was from a PBS source that would double 100,000 peoples befeits from the bottom 1 percent.

I stand by my opinion that bush is trying to give everything he can to make people happy. A snake oil salesman that convinced the people that they will be poor without the tax cut. Im sorry if people dont get there tax breaks, the same tax breaks that would have never been a thought if bush had peddled them to the people. If there had been a war there would have been no tax money left.

If someone is willing to fight for their country to preserve their countries future, why not sacrifice 400 deollars that they would have never gotten. The money that could have left your kids without a national debt that your generation created.

Money that could have protected millions of acres of wildlife.

the japanese invested heavily to become a world leader in technology we didnt. are we to catch up by not investing our future?

My definition of insanity is repeating something the same way and expecting different results.
Its good to be happy and what they say ignorance is bliss and for all of you non ignorant people out there.....

dick cheney alone stands to make 2 million dollars a year of this tax cut

Sooooo what! He earned it.

thats enough money to pay for 1000 kids eductions

Too Bad. It's not his job to pay for that.

the child credit and marriage penalty relief which the dubya says will help so many people will not be instated until 2009 and will be abolished in 2010

Thanks to lame Democrats.

the average person in the bottom 1 % will make 10 dollars off this cut top 1% 28,ooo

So what. Why shoudl I continue to fork over 34% of my income to the governement? DO YOU???

bush is an idiot

You are a socialist!

the budget is already proposturously over rated and the mistakes will come out of medicare and social securuty which is already likely to come up short because of baby boomers

Prove it!

if the same amount of money was spent towards public works projects an estimated 10000 for every man woman and child in public works could be achieved

Perhaps less money shoudl be spent on do nothing government workers and more money should actually be spent on getting things done. The problem isn't the porgrams, it's the way they are managed.
Like all liberals, he will claim that this is conservative rather than in the middle. Amazing how the pounding of liberalsim makes something in the middle seem far right. Imagine how they would respond to the real right!

Those wacky Swedes, they just luurrv Dubya there don't they? Yep, uhhuh!

Yeah but I guess it's just that "liberal media" there in Europe giving us a skewed view of reality. They din't show the thousands of people welcoming Bush in ten-gallon hats singing "Deep in the Heart of Texass". Right?

Yeah the Liberal media wants us Liberals to look bad right?
YOu Stated:
The figure that cheney will make 2,000,000 was from a PBS source that would double 100,000 peoples befeits from the bottom 1 percent.

- What are you trying to say here? I can't get past your grammar here.

I stand by my opinion that bush is trying to give everything he can to make people happy.

- is this any different from anyone else? Is he supposed to be trying to make us unhappy?

A snake oil salesman that convinced the people that they will be poor without the tax cut. Im sorry if people dont get there tax breaks, the same tax breaks that would have never been a thought if bush had peddled them to the people.

- Are you trying to say that we all wanted to pay more taxes until Dubya came along? Are you crediting Bush with original thinking for coming up with a tax cut?

If there had been a war there would have been no tax money left.

- but there isn't a war is there.

If someone is willing to fight for their country to preserve their countries future, why not sacrifice 400 deollars that they would have never gotten.

- The point is this: I did get the $400.00 and the government took it from me. The governemtn said that if I didn't pay the money that they would send me to jail. Then the government said that if I refused to go to jail, then they would shoot me dead. Yup, the government is willing to kill me for $400.00.

The money that could have left your kids without a national debt that your generation created.

Money that could have protected millions of acres of wildlife.

- Last time I checked, we have plenty of wildlife preserves. Maybe we should come to your home and kick you out so that cute little bunny rabbits could live there instead. We could also close the location where you father works so that cute little squirrels could live there Suddenly, wildlife preservation doesn't look so great.

the japanese invested heavily to become a world leader in technology we didnt. are we to catch up by not investing our future?

- trust me let the Japanese keep their government. We really don't need it. Why do you think they needed to catch up to us in the first place? Why do you think they got their behinds kicked in WWII? Would a sane government have attacked us in the 40's? I think not. Japan has a terrible government that is wracked with problems. We don't need to be more like them.
