View Full Version : Old Town's Drag Racers-Fastest ride in the world

Knoxville

The drag racers at Old Town in Orlando are really far along as theyve been seen moving along the track at slow speed. Old Town is claiming that these will get to 130 mph in 2 seconds. S&S is the manufacturer.
(If you haven't heard about this attraction, it is basically a Top Elimination Dragster)

I know I'm excited!:D

Yeah, sounds like a cool ride. Just gives me more motivation to head down to Orlando.

Man, Orlando has everything! :D I wish that I lived there! :)

Anyways, so will this be a pay as you go attraction? Or is Old Town like that anyways? And, is this gonna count as a rollercoaster? If so, wouldnt it beat TTD! I hope that its just a ride instead of a coaster b/c TTD I think should be the tallest & Fastest for at least 3 years!

Sounds awesome. That would be quite a rush propelling yourself 130. I would definatly make the trip out there if i were going on a Florida trip. I'm not, but there's always in a few years.

bk1870 -

Dragster need not worry about anything. It will still be the tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

But wow. 130mph in 2 seconds. I wonder how many G's that's going to pull. Orlando and their eye-popping rides. First that 300' skycoaster, the zuper high-tech Amazing Adventures of Spiderman and now this. I'm packing my bags :)

Screamscape was saying it may go a little slower but for such a short distance that is fast. well to bad I have to go to Orlando next week.

I can't wait until I go down to Florida next year... Droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooool...
Wow, 0-130ish in 2ish seconds. I rode a smaller version of one of these at our state fair. It went 0-60 in 1 second or something like that. And I thought that was intense! Now, more than 2 times the speed in 2 times the time.... Wheee! :D :D :D Droo-*choke* Whoops, ran out of drool. ;)

You took the words right out of my mouth. When is this thing going to be done? I wanted to plan a huge coaster trip to Florida between now and next summer (beat the crowds) and I definitely want to factor this into the trip.

This is not a roller coaster, its strictly a drag race, you will be strapped into a drag racing car with a 4 point harness, then you will be able to push the button when the light turns green and you will do 0-130 mph in 2 seconds. Ive also heard that its not over there, their will be so much pressure left, it will then launch you backwards at around 60 mph. Im gonna be there opening day to ride. Its gonna cost ya 25$ a ride, so bring the wallet.

$25 a ride?! That's a little steep, but I'll hafta do it at least once. It'd be nice if they sold a annual pass type thing to go back and do it over and over.
Hey Banner, when is opening day?

I'm thinking I'll have to see this soon. Probably next month if I have the time. But in my opinion, it doesn't impress me very well.

Dr.Bruce Banner
08-25-2003, 08:29 PM
Not impressed? This isnt a coaster, its a thrill ride... faster then Dragster, 0-120 mph in 2 seconds is unbeleivable. Ive seen it test, this is going to be one awesome ride.

Ya DBB, I can't wait for this to open... to bad it'll cost $25 a ride though... Oh well, It'll be woth it IMO. I wonder if it'll ever have long lines...

For those of you not familiar with "Old Town" it is also home to the "Kissimme Skycoaster," the tallest and fastest skycoaster in the world. It's 300' tall and riders reach speeds of 70+ mph. If the Old Town Drag Racers arn't alone enough to get you to come to old town, then the combination of the Drag Racers and the skycoaster (which conviently sit directly next to each other) make Old Town a MUST do stop for the extream thrill seekers. Sorry that began to sound like an advertisement there, I just had such an amazing ride on the skycoaster that I really thought the rest of you should get to try it as well...

I know its not a coaster and I'm sure it's going to be awesome too. But when I look at the pictures on Screamscape, I'm thinking of those Mustangs. Also what really doesn't impress me is when I look at the ride in a Safety POV.

$25 a ride? For two rides right? Because, you race for a few seconds, get the rush of the launch, and then it's over. I wouldn't pay $25 per ride on TTD.

And TTD is a coaster at a amusement park, this is a ride off by itself. Its no different then a skycoaster or sling shot.... Anyways, heres some new info ive heard... They are going to run it at 120, so it will be 0-120 in 1.8 seconds. And they have the new cable installed and should be opening soon.

That's good news to hear. I'll be going to HHN from Oct 3-5 so I'll definately make a trip out to Old Town to ride. I haven't been this excited in a while.:D

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, neither the skycoaster nor the drag racers are in old town. They are directly next to it. The slingshot is in old town.

Hey I talked to my reliable source a few days ago about the flying dueling coaster there seems to be a problem because SOMETHING SO BIG IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN AT THE MOUNTAIN ONLY A FEW people Know about it including me that if I spoke of it you would not only hate me for spoiling it for you my friend would hate me for getting him fired.

That is not all I can leak out something UNidentified train car in arrow's factory in las vegas. Before you ask me in a post how do I know the location of arrows factory well one of them anyway I found this out 5 years ago when I was on a vacation a strange coaster viechle mounted on a track I never seen before (cough cough X) decided I would follow it knowing that I could get caught I stayed back then a very large unmarked building on a very hard to find road pulled into a gate at that time I just kept on passig it to get a better look then my wife called went to the hotel took the kids to the adventuredome dropped them of with the oldest at the circus circus arcade and went back to the hotel with my wife and me alone. so anyway now finding out 4 years later that train was X's
the train looked enclosed like a circlular egg on wheels and the track was shaped like a T and even thogh I am in virginia I have a few friends that go down to gamble at loser slots and the factory is by one of there favorite casinos so i giv'em a few bills for gas they check it out and that is how they described to me.

youhow2,

Is English your second language? If it is, then I think we can all forgive you for how your post is written. As you learn the language better, you'll understand how complete senteces, paragraphs and punctuation help the readability of the things you write.

Since you are new here, what I think the gist of what you're saying is a rumor about a new roller coaster at Magic Mountain. This doesn't have to do with the Drag Racers at Old Town nor are rumors permitted in this forum. There are specific forums for rumors such as yours.

Back to the subject at hand. I'm really surprised that more parks haven't picked up this S&S ride as an upcharge attraction. It really doesn't take up a LOT of space, just a long, narrow strip. Maybe, depending on the success of the one in Orlando, we'll see more in the future. I sure hope so!

OK, I did some math and came up with the g-forces for both 130 mph in 2 sec. and 120 mph in 1.8 sec. the 130mph launch will pull 2.965 G's and the 120 mph launch will pull 3.041 G's. Guess I'll have to get down to Orlando again soon.

Well, I believe that since this is an S&S product, that it will be air powered...

Am I wrong? I should probably head down there and see what kind of action is taking place. I only live like 10 minutes from the place.

I'll see what I can dig up.

Hello all. A little information about the ride. The ride will use air. The ride is still not operating. The latest information I was able to get is they are having problems with the stopping of the ride. The ride currently is pulling 3.5 G's on the take off. But the problem is with the stop. It is currently pulling around 8 G's. My understanding is that the ride may not open for several more weeks to a month or more. As they try to work out the problems. I will get some photos when I attend IAAPA in Nov.

It's open, eh? So it's the fastest acceleration on the planet? Has anyone taken a trip to visit it yet? I'd love to see photos of it and learn more about it.

Yep. It's open. Check out photos and a vid at Screamscape. He says it's only hitting the 110 mph mark right now...but it's doing it in 1.9 seconds.

It's a really short ride. And it only costs $27!!!

I rode it twice today, and it is nothing short of amazing S&S. The launch is nothing you expect, totally caught me by surprise. My launch was from 0-113 in roughly 1.8 seconds. If your in the Kissimmee area, you have to hit up GForce at Old Town. Another amazing creation by S&S and also the GForce team.

Dang, I really ought to have stopped by to see this when I was there this past weekend... Oh well. I don't suppose it's going anywhere, and I'll be back in the area soon. It looks interesting, of course, though I'm not certain it would be worth the price (considering I've been on Top Thrill Dragster and that's a coaster, not a thrill ride).

I would love to head down there sometime next year while going to IOA and DISNEY. Even though its not a real coaster ride, it looks really exciting.
