View Full Version : How close are you to a park?

Wes

The AZ thread got me thinking about this...

How close (driving) are you to a park?

I used to complain about Carowinds all the time, but now I'm just glad:

A) We're getting a new coaster
B) It's only 30 minutes away from me

So I really have nothing to complain about anymore.

Edit:

Paramount's Carowinds - 30 min or less
Dollywood - 2 hrs 30 min
Myrtle Beach Parks - 3hrs 30 min
Six Flags over Georgia - 4 hours
Paramount's King's Dominion - 5 hours 30 min
Busch Gardens Williamsburg - 6 hours

About 90 minutes from SFA due to having to stop to pick up friends along the way.

90 minutes or so to PKD(maybe less depending on traffic).

3.5 hours from BGW & HP.

Too far from SFGRADV to ever go there.

5 min. from Carowinds. When in my backyard during the summer I can hear Top Gun. Ah, the innocence of youth. I used to walk to the park during the summers when my folks were at work.

The closest amusment park here is about 2 minutes driving :), only it isn't much of a park. More a upgraded toy-ground...

The closest real park is properly Attractiepark Slagharen(25 min) and Six Flags Holland(55 min)

Astroworld is 5-10 minutes away from me. I could actually ride my bike there in about 20 minutes, but i dont know where i'd lock it up. As for other parks:

SFFT-3.5 hours
SFoT-4.5 hours

Those are times based on driving the legal speed limit. But that doesnt really count in Texas.

I'm about 1 hour and 45 minutes, 2 hours from the nearest park, Magic Mountain, so it's not nearly as close as I'd like. Excluding the Santa Monica Boardwalk, the next nearest parks would be the Disneyland Resort and Knotts Berry Farm, which take a good 2 1/2, 3 hours to get to, with all that LA traffic.

5 hours to SFMM. 5 hours to Disney. 5 hours to Knott's. 5 hours to Sea World. 5 hours to Legoland. When oh when will someone wake up and build a park in AZ? We are coaster deprived out here. If I had 20 million bucks...that's all it would take.

From parent's in Toledo:
CP = 1 hour (and change)
SFWoA = 2 hours
PKI = 3-4 hours.

From my pad in Kent:
CP = 1 hour, 30 minutes
PKI = better part of 4 hours
SFWoA = 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Kent to SFWoA is all surface street driving. All the others is mainly highway travel time.

I'm about 45 minutes from SFGAm, maybe 2-3 hours from the parks in Wisconsin but not sure, haven't been there yet. I think it 6-7 hours to SFStL and it 5-6 hours to my favorite park Cedar Point but I guess I can look on the bright side, I'm only 5-10 minutes away from Jeepers. Yesssss!!!

I'm about an hour from a dinky park with 3 coasters in Indiana known as the Fun Spot and I'm about 1 and 1/2 from Michigans Adventure. I've never been to the Fun Spot but I know it's there and I've been the Michigan's Adventure 3 times but not at all in the last 2 years and it doesn't look like that's going to change.

Indiana Beach is about 3 hours away to the south, great little park. SFGAmer. is about 5 1/2 hours west and Cedar Point is about 4 1/2 hours to the east.

It's all good.

Where to begin...

about 2.7 miles away from Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom (http://www.pharaohslostkingdom.com/)
about 20 miles from Castle Amusement Park (http://www.castlepark.com/)
About 20 miles to Scandia Amusement Park (http://www.scandiafun.com/)
About 46 miles to the Disneyland Resort (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dlr/index)
About 49 miles to Knott's berry farm (http://www.knottsberryfarm.com/[/url)
and About 96 miles to Six Flags Magic Mountain (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/magicmountain/index.asp).

Why didn't I put times to get to each? Because traffic varies so much, it might take me about an hour to get to Disneyland, or it might take me up to three.

Oooh, how do I start to list the ways?

If I'm at our house in VA:
45 minutes to 1 hour to Busch Gardens Williamsburg
8 hours (pit stops included) to SFoG (45 minutes to 1 hour from GA cabin)
10 hours (" ") to Dollywood (2 hours from the GA cabin)
14-16 hours to Cedar Point (non-stop driving AT the speed limit. 12+ hours from GA)

*yawn* Might need to change them, but those are rough estimates that we've used in the past!

Wes

BBW is cool because it is like two different rides. The first portion of it is not too intense. It has a little houses like a little village, and then the second part is very thrilling and is intense. I love it too!

Idlewild: 30 mins (on a good day)
KW: 1 hours (no stops)
HP: 3 hours
CP: 4, 5 if you obey the speed limits
Dorney: about 4.5, but last time it took almost 6
BGE: 5.5, 7 if you obey the speed limits (60 vs. 120 makes a huge time difference on long trips!)

Prime location? maybe!

Still just about 8 miles from Sesame Place. It's still not justified riding the closest coaster to me when the price is so high and it's a children's water/theme park. There's a Vekoma kiddie coaster there. I have no niece or nephew to take to not feel really embarrassed to be there. If it was an open atmosphere boardwalk, not a closed in park, I'd have the credit more easily.

Still a half mile from a former 1920s amusement park site and footers for a wooden coaster
Still a half hour - 40 minutes from SFGADV and Clementon Park.
2.5 hours from Hersheypark
1.5? from Dorney

You have a point with the fake boobs and golf courses- I'm within a (long) walking or (moderate) biking distance of the TPC. I don't golf much, though.

We also, however, have snobs. And white trash, and the few bad hispanics (most aren't bad when you get to know them).

Hopefully, we get a park like the one mentioned about a month back in our local newspaper. (Something about a music themed park on par with Universal's theming- not Hard Rock though) I'd gladly drive an hour to Anthem for a B&M or Intamin... even an SLC might do it for me.
