are you still thinking of buying one of them? A UK mag just published spy shots of the new 2005 one (goes on sale in april in italy and august in the UK.

Its still got some disguise on it, looks more toned down than the old car, but its not bad looking. Should be better qualitly too

while the italians have taken care of the design, the mechanical parts are the work of GM. The Fiats platform will also underpin the next generation Vauxhall (GM) corsa (a same size car and rival), due in 2006, and that should mean better handling and ride than the existing punto

Sorry if there are errors in that I ocr'd it.

the stlying is toned down so it looks sort of.......softer. like the new ford focus looks comapred to the old one.

I JUST have the best game ever made on my desktop, ya know....

you should have at leasted used the pic of the girl.

the picture file that you are using for your desktop. It might already be a .jpg, but often people use .bmps for desktops becasue the file size isn't so important and it gives better qualitly.

.jpg is just a compressed image format. Hosting sites like www.imageshack.us will only accept compressed formats like .jpg.

Why does everyone have a calendar and to-do list on theirs?

Cause when you juggle school, a job, a sport, college applications, and everyday chores you can't possibly remember everything. The calendar helps me get a clue of how soon things are coming up...

I really needed it and just found it. Adds a ton of productivity for me.

I really need to find my pics from IOA. Maybe when I get moved and unpacked they'll be kind enough to make an appearance in one of the boxes.

Here's what I've got right now. I met this guy (Moses Smith) during testing at Daytona International Speedway for the Craftsman Truck Series. He was working for the guy (Blake Mallory) whose hauler happened to be parked next to Brendan's. Turns out Moses also owns a racing team that runs Speed Trucks and Star Mazda races out west. I was amused by this picture, gotta love getting air time in an open wheel racer. :)

I'm also using this one. I just love the face Brendan is making as he's climbing out of his truck.

What is that iTunes thing! I want it!
It's called DeskTunes. You can download it here (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22939).

How'd you change out your standard Macintosh HD icon with a iMac Icon?
The first thing you need to do is download an application called CandyBar. They have a full version with some added features but that costs money. I just went for the free version.

You can download CandyBar here (http://www.panic.com/candybar/d/CandyBar%202.6.1.dmg) (Direct download link).

Once you open CandyBar the program will briefly load your icons. Scroll down the section titled Device Icons. It is in this section that you will find the icon that came defaulted with your Mac with the caption Internal beneath it.

All you need to do from there is drop any icon you desire into that spot. Now where do I find the icons?

I know you have a MacBook Kyle, so follow this (http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/details.php?id=1867) link and download that set of icons.

Once downloaded, open the folder and you will see a series of MacBook and MacBook Pro icons. Depending on which color MacBook you have and which screen image that you prefer; that will be the one you choose.

Now, getting back to CandyBar. Drag and drop your chosen icon from that set into the space where your previous Hard Drive icon is, which again is labeled Internal beneath it.

Once the icon is set into place in the Internal HD section of CandyBar, click Apply System Icons. The icon will load and CandyBar will prompt you to relaunch Finder. Once that is done, you have a new Hard Drive icon.

To undo this change, simply remove your installed icon off of the Internal HD spot in CandyBar and the default icon will still be beneath it.

I decided to rename my Hard Drive as well, so I right clicked on my HD and then clicked Get Info. From there I went to Name & Extension, erased the Macintosh HD, typed in iMac, and hit Enter. It will prompt you for your password when doing this as well.

I hope that wasn't too confusing Kyle. If you wish more elaboration on a certain step don't hesitate to ask.

Some other cool applications if you don't already have them:

Adium (http://www.adiumx.com): It's an IM client, but some find it much better and easier to use than iChat. While it doesn't have the video conferencing feature that iChat does, it saves every single IM conversation or chatroom that you have participated in into a log. This log isn't stored on your HD, but rather on Adium itself.

Coconut WiFi (http://coconut-flavour.com/coconutwifi/): This one might be more useful to you Kyle since you have a MacBook which I assume you use with WiFi regularly. Instead of looking through all of the networks in AirPort and not knowing whether of not they require passwords can become a pain when in range of quite a few networks. Coconut WiFi appears as a single colored dot in your menubar and tells you which networks are passworded and which ones are not. While it cannot launch the network, Coconut WiFi is very helpful when trying to find a network without a password required.

Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/?page_id=24/) and Instant Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/?page_id=26): These two programs are for ripping DVDs. For right now, I would suggest Instant HandBrake as it is easier to explain and use.

Instructions for Instant HandBrake
1) You pop a DVD into your drive and DVD Player launches.
2) Close DVD Player
3) Open Instant Handbrake
4) Instant Handbrake will recognize the DVD in your drive and you press continue while it loads your chapters.
5) Choose your settings. Instant Handbrake is primarily for converting DVDs into H.264 format so that they look nice on your iPod. HandBake is for viewing on your computer.
6) Make sure that you are under the H.264 setting. While under normal circumstance i would always choose widescreen, in a situation with a 2.5'' screen, fullscreen is the best way to go.
7) Make sure that the preferred audio is English and that subtitles is selected as None.
8) Hit continue and wait for it to rip.

Surprisingly the time it takes to rip is less than the time it takes to watch. I ripped Pirates of the Caribbean 2 yesterday, a 2.5 hour movie, and it took me around 1.5 hours to do so.

WeatherPop (http://www.weatherpop.com/): WeatherPop is an application that displays the weather condition via a small picture as well as the current temperature. This is an alternative for viewing the weather conditions in your Dashboard.

I will update this post if I find some other useful applications.

WeatherPop updates every 30 minutes unless you purchase the full version where you can set it update up to every minute. I just like on my menubar to get a quick reading of how the weather conditions.

Hey Martin, now that I got my MacBook back, do you have any other software reccomendations or anything? Just curious...
I have a few more recommendations...

Coconut Battery (http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/): This little application shows you the current charge of your battery, but it also shows you the capacity of charge that your battery can retain as that slowly diminishes overtime after leaving the factory.

Flip4Mac (http://flip4mac.com/): Flip4Mac coverts all Windows Media Player content in Safari into a Quicktime player window.

Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/): Some consider Gimp to be a free alternative to Photoshop. It is easy to use, and runs great on a Mac with an Intel processor.

Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/): If you haven't already downloaded Firefox, please do so. It is much better than Safari in some situations.

Seashore (http://seashore.sourceforge.net/): Seashore is another photo editing program that I consider equivalent to Gimp. It is free as well.

Quicksilver (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/): A lot of people praise this application because not only will you have to keep many applications in their dock, but Quicksilver brings up items with speed faster than Spotlight. You can also customize commands for Quicksilver such as programming it to open a new email message in Apple Mail and other simpler task like opening an application with only just a few keystrokes.

I have yet to adapt to Quicksilver yet, but I can see doing so in the future.

XinePlayer (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/17492): This applications can play many, many video formats as well as DVD-R. The people who designed it wished that it would eliminate your usage of Quicktime, DVD Player, and Windows Media Player. With XinePlayer you can play many video formats on one application.

Skype (http://skype.com/helloagain.html): This application is starting to take off on both PC's and Macs. You can "call" anybody else with Skype for free and it also works with video chat. When I say call, I mean through built-in microphones on Macs, or auxiliary ones on PC's. Much better than AIM's weak attempt at voice conferencing and is more compatible between PC's and Macs than iChat is. With Skype, you can also have text chats with all of the "buddies" on your Skype Contacts list.

Skype is also useful when video chatting with PC users as iChat isn't quite compatible with non-iSight web cameras.

iBackup (http://www.grapefruit.ch/iBackup/): iBackup is useful for all of your backing up needs until our new OS Leopard is on the market and all backing up will be automatic.

Shapeshifter (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/shapeshifter): I haven't used this application before but its purpose is for changing themes in your OS.

Tinker Tool (http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html): I was just reading up on this application, so I don't know much about it, but it supposedly finds preferences built into Mac OS X Tiger that aren't necessarily easily found without working with Terminal, which is impossible to work with if you don't know all different kinds of coding and such.

SmallImage (http://www.iconus.ch/fabien/smallimage2/): Lets you re-size and re-compress any JPEG image with ease.

Vienna (http://www.opencommunity.co.uk/vienna_features.php): Vienna is an alternative to Safari's RSS reader. Vienna is it's own separate application, with an easy to use interface so that you are able to get all of the news right as it is updated.

That's all I have for now and I am not sure if those will be useful to you, but I will probably be able to find some more in the next week or so.

There are 4 versions of Vista.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/default.mspx

Basic is a very stripped down Vista. It doesn't have the 3D flip or any of the really fun features. I have the most expensive version of it. Which is Ultimate. I really like it and it seems to run faster than Home Premium for some reason.

EDIT: Here is my current Vista rating:

What's the need for four versions of Vista? The Ultimate is 400 bucks?

OS X Leopard coming in October only need one version for $129. That includes everything...

I don't understand why Microsoft needs to make so many versions of an OS.

Alan J
08-23-2007, 06:03 PM
Because Microsoft markets OS's to corporations so 3 of the types are for residents and 2 are for higher preforming computers. The other is for weak preforming computers. The 4th one is for corporations who want Vista but don't need all the things normal people want. One of the high preforming computer editions if for people who want little extra things over the other. Some people don't wan everything so Microsoft makes types to fit those people.

Anywho, I'm bringing it back, since it's just a thread of screencaps anyway. So, I thought I'd post mine since I have Windows 7 Ultimate now. I also bought a Windows 7 Laptop, and had it bumped to Professional (thanks to anytime upgrade).

The wallpaper... that's mine... custom made through a zoom shot of the moon I took with my Canon.

Also, if you can, link to the desktop (get a thumbnail to click on) or upload it. It's easier to view that way.
