View Full Version : Tunnel On Sonny?

On the most recent fly over pictures of PKI on PKICentral, there is a shot of the entire Son Of Beast coaster. There appears to be a tunnel at the bottom of the first hill after the lift. If it's not a tunnel, maybe it's a cover for the track - although that seems odd. Take a look and see what you think.

Woah! Thats gotta be a tunnel. It looks like a tunnel from NL. lol. I don't know why there would be a cover over a little piece of the track. How did you come across this?

Man looks like sob is taking after his elder. Thats good to hear about the tunnel if it is one.

That would be great if it is a tunnel, its nice to have a little extra thrill to it.

It does look like a tunnel. I wouldn't see why they would cover it.

Oh my, a tunnel? I think the ride's better without it because then you have that fear of being right next to a huge loop... I don't know, maybe it'll be a good change.

Woah. That's weird. I was wondering if they'd ever put a tunnel on it. It really appers to be a tunnel, but it could just be covering the track as they do work on the loop. Who knows in the offseason.

It appears to be on the right of the loop though, but who knows.

I guess we'll have to wait until the park opens to find out for sure.

But it sure does look like a tunnel. And how appropriate that'd be since The Beast has a tunnel right off the lift hill.

That does look like a tunnel. Pretty long to. Looks like it's trying to be more like it's daddy :)

Or maybe that could be where the Beast hybernates for the winter. lol

It can't be a cover, why would they want to cover anything over there?

Well, the Beast has a straight part that is covered. I don't know why they did that.

The supports from the loop do offer a good headchopper at the bottom of the drop. If it is a tunnel, that would be eliminated. Though since the drop is so high the tunnel itself would probably seem like a small black hole.

It'll be cool if it is a tunnel...But I think it be the best if they covered half of the first drop as well. I think it'd add a nice little effect to the coaster.

The photographer just posted (on PKICentral) that it is a tarp, and it's there every year. Funny, but I've never seen it before.

Too bad a tunnel can't fix the roughness, noise, uncomfortable trains, and boring layout. If it could solve those this ride would be great.

That 'tarp' looks so sqare... From here it does look like an NL tunnel.

I disagree. You'd lose how tall the drop really is if they did that IMO.

Yah!!! Some one agrees. I would like for it to be a tunnel, but I know its only a tarp.

Oh man, I really though they tried to improve the ride somewhat.

Why is there a tarp there? What are they doing under there?

Was that a crime scene? Rattled to smithereens. lol

Maybe they are replacing some track peaces...

I was surfing around pkicentral.

http://www.pkicentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4356

Read about 6 posts down, the guy says he did some ariel photos and it's a tarp that they put on it every year and that The Beast has one too.

I have no idea why they'd put a tarp there though.

It is probably a simple answer. Perhaps they were doing some track work and the tarp offered the workers protection from the elements (wind, snow, rain wtc...).
That seems like the most logical answer to me.

They have to be doing some type of trackwork. I'm sure the tarp is to keep the snow & rain off that part of track.

Dang, I thought there actually was a new permanent tunnel, I think that would be an awsome/cheap addition.

Well, the Beast has a straight part that is covered. I don't know why they did that.

I know I'm addressing something a little off topic here, but the long section that's covered on The Beast was put there to keep that long section of skid brakes dry.

There really isn't a good place for a tunnel on SoB... IMO...

It amazes me!!!!!

Go to www.pkicentral.com and click on the forums. You'll see the one about pics of PKI in the winter, talk of the "tarp", reply by THE photographer who has seen the "tarp" in years before, and then the continuation of how "wonderful it is that PKI is putting a tunnel on SOB".
Can't people read?

It amazes me!!!!!
