the mods take suggestions way to seriously, a couple of people will suggest it and it will become a reality, not saying the mods dont think about but it is usually against the majority.....

the new rankings are not awesome possum, the old ones should be brought back ASAP

bush is an idiot

the survivors should be as many friggin threads as they want......

a new "common threads" forum should open up so that CP vs SFMM and wood versus steel thread do not get locked.....

mods are forum-nazis (referring to soup nazi episode of seinfeild) they have unlimited power and sometimes abuse it.... im not sayin they are racist or have secret police....

ghostrider is the best coaster ever

the old topics that have not been touched should go to a topic archive to make loading of forums faster.....

not enough people are heard because they do not have the loudest voice, i do not make obnoxious threads 9with the possible exception of this one) but am still a top 5 poster but no one would recognize me, the people who complain the most are recognized the most

Thank you for your feed back. Please allow me to respond to your opinions.

the mods take suggestions way to seriously, a couple of people will suggest it and it will become a reality, not saying the mods dont think about but it is usually against the majority.....

I myself have not run into any suggestion topics that read "I like everything just how it is, don't change anything." And we don't take every idea that people suggest. When a good idea is suggested by the public we moderators discuss it and see if we like the idea and if it will help out the forums.

the new rankings are not awesome possum, the old ones should be brought back ASAP

When we first started these message boards we had no rankings. Someone suggested it and we started the first system. Some were happy, some weren't, most didn't care. There seemed to be more negative comments than positives, so after a new system was proposed and I made the new images, we as mods decided it would better fit the Coaster theme of the message boards. Again, some were happy, some were not, and again most didn't care. We'll never be able to make everyone happy. Though we do keep trying!

bush is an idiot

Couldn't agree with you more there! But that's just my opinion.

the survivors should be as many friggin threads as they want......

The problem with the survivor topics is that they are so popular and so abundant that there was hardly anything else that was filtering to the front 2 pages of the Message Board Games and Polls. It was decided to keep the overall number of topics down to have everyone post in the same thread for survivor. So how do you know when the game has gone on to the next round? Easy. The person that started the topic just has to edit his original post to change the topic title to reflect which round the game is in. Easy as pie. Mmmmm, pie. ::: drool :::

a new "common threads" forum should open up so that CP vs SFMM and wood versus steel thread do not get locked.....

Although it looks like all we do is lock those topics as soon as they pop up, it's because they are duplicates. We are careful to post a link to the orginal topic so that the discussion may continue. There is no point to having 20 different threads all discussing whether or not Superman is a coaster. People would not want to read and respond to every single one of them anyways, and it clutters up our database.

mods are forum-nazis (referring to soup nazi episode of seinfeild) they have unlimited power and sometimes abuse it.... im not sayin they are racist or have secret police....

We don't try to abuse our powers. We are trying to keep the forums running as smoothly and cleanly as possible. If you feel that a particular moderator is causing problems please post links to the offending behavior in the Help Us Out forum and we will look into it. Or you can email Alex the BoardAdmin and report the problems directly to him, or to one of the other moderators that you trust.

ghostrider is the best coaster ever

It's the best woodie I've ever been on, but I don't know if it's the best coaster ever. There is always a better coaster somewhere or one being built. I haven't been on that many woodies really, so I can't compare it.

the old topics that have not been touched should go to a topic archive to make loading of forums faster.....

Our forums use a database to store all of the information. When you load the forums initially all it loads are the names of the different forums and some other data. Once you enter a particular forum although it shows 30 or 40 pages worth at the bottom of the screen, it isn't actually loading all of that. It's only loading the individual topic names that are on the page you're looking at. Once you enter a topic it loads only 30 posts at a time. Emptying out the old topics wouldn't really speed things up at all. We also like to keep many of the old topics around for archival purposes.

not enough people are heard because they do not have the loudest voice, i do not make obnoxious threads 9with the possible exception of this one) but am still a top 5 poster but no one would recognize me, the people who complain the most are recognized the most

We hear everyone who complains to us. However I'd hazard that over 90% of the users here don't complain. When you post in the suggestions forum of the help us out forum we do read your posts and we do respond. SirWillow is really great at giving feedback to everyone who posts in there, and I hope that I've done a good job answering some of your concerns here. Thanks again for posting, and bear with us as we continue to try and make these boards more enjoyable and easier to use for everyone!

thank you, nosk8er, finally someone who realizes that some, not all, of these mods need a little reminder that are still people, and as people should listen to everyone, not just a certain "tattle-tail" minority.

Am I the only one who think that the mods do a pretty decent job? They may do things that we all don't like, but at one time or another, that will happen to each of us. The boards would be much worse if they weren't here. If the mods didn't lock new topics titled "CP vs SFMM" then we would have about 20 of the same threads. That's just stupid and annoying, plus it takes up more space. I don't see how we can't benefit from that.

Bush IS an Idotic racist BEEP. I agree there.

As far as the survivor thing, don't get pissed from me saying that I think it's a total waste of crap. It has no meaning what-so-ever. It just takes up loads of Bandwidth that could be used for REAL ACTUAL rollercoaster discussions. I think the Mods should stop that all together. I don't understand how someone could let something like that waste their money. If you're gonna do a suvivor thing, do it on email. I hate it when I have to scroll through a whole freaking page to find a real damn discussion about what this site is made for. ROLLERCOASTERS. Not some stupid TV rip off. By the way, if you haven't noticed, I hated Survivor on TV. I thought it was stupid too. I don't get it and I probably never will. But I'll reitterate. Why Waste Bandwidth On A Stupid Little Game. You Waste Money! Use email. It's cheap, everyone has it. And it's EASIER than compiling a megabite of worthless 1 worded posts on a good site like this.

Oh Yes, one more thing that bugs me. A site like this is made primarily for rollercoasters, right? Then why are there other forums on here that go to off the wall subjects? Again, wasting money and bandwidth. Add some cool new features instead. Know what I mean?

I don't care what you think about my opinions. I am expressing them in the way I feel. Plus I'm in a not so good mood anyway. Oh well.

Alright Nosk8er, I just came online after a long day at work and came accross your post. I'm tired, I'm grumpy, I'm irritable, but you wanted a reply, so keep all that in mind as I respond.

I couldn't disagree with you more. If that was the case then you would have seen all the multiple changes that you've requested put into place. When suggestions are made, response from others is looked at as well as whether or not it will enhance the boards, is it workable with the software, what will the majority of posters think, and much more. There are a lot of suggestions that are not implemented for a variety of reasons. But one sure way to make sure that your suggestion is ignored is to whine and complain it all over the place.

Quote:

As you've said on how many different posts and threads now? Ok, we got your point a long time ago. See my note above about the whining and complaining.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they're not going to go back just because you're posting everywhere that they should. I have received much more positive feedback about the new ones then negative, and it is generally felt among the mods and admin that these fit the "theme" of the board better. Not to be rude, but learn to live with it. There are other opinions around here besides yours.

Quote:

bush is an idiot

you don't want me to get started on why this is a completely ignorant statement, especially in light of the rest of the conversation, and even the forum that you're posting it in. Suffice to say that I voted for Bush for Governor, and was proud to be able to vote for him for President. Of the choices we had I definately considered him the best.

Quote:

the survivors should be as many friggin threads as they want......

So they can clog up our servers memory with extra stuff, make the forum much harder to navigate and harder to figure out what is what since they are flying around and changing so fast? Oh, and also so that we can ignore the numerous complaints about them? Again, you'rs is not the only voice, and while it upsets some (understandably so) the big picture has to be looked at. There is a thread in the board suggestions forum to discus alternatives. Offer some besides the same old ones you already have, and we'll see what we can do.

Quote:

a new "common threads" forum should open up so that CP vs SFMM and wood versus steel thread do not get locked.....

This has been discussed so many times it's getting old. (a common thread maybe?) There is no reason to have 20 threads all saying the same thing. None. Which one do you respond to then? It just creates confusion. This is much easier this way as well as a lot less cluttered with redundancy.

Quote:

Now I'll say right off the bat, I really resent your comment and insult here. Whether you like it or not, you are making a racist and bigoted remark here. If you don't think so, then you don't know your history. Mods do not have unlimited power, and you seem to forget that we are people to, who are volunteering our time and efforts to try to make this a better place for everyone. Not just you but also the couple of thousand others that are also posting. Maybe you should consider some of them and the whole big picture instead of just your little world before making such a comment.

Quote:

Your opinion- discuss it in the American Coasters threads devoted to that, where it belongs. Not in the board suggestions.
Tom already discussed this pretty well, so I'll let his answer do the talking.
Trust me, you're recognized. Though it may not necessarily be in the fashion that you'd like. I think your last statement there is a good description of your last few days.

But I also recognize you from the quality posts that you made- including how you got your nick and others. Why not try going back to being a positive contributor again and refresh that track record. Then when you do have a suggestion it might carry a bit more weight.

And no, complainers don't have a voice other then the whine. And it's often locked, deleted, or just plain ignored. Not a voice that I would like.

One last suggestion, and one that I think I've already said. Try looking at it from a perspective other than your own for once. Like if you were the mod or the owner and had to make everything work smoothly for all these people and opinions, how could you do that in a positive manner? Sometimes it means doing things that you don't necessarily like for the good of all. Something to consider about.

Ok, I'm done from my tired, grumpy ranting. Sorry if I teed of a bit to much there.

I think that all the locked topics should go in its own forum. Then you could look there to see if a topic has been duplicated. Then it would be easier to navigate.

Tom Zeliff
07-07-2001, 02:41 PM
Not really. Do you have any idea how many locked topics there are? I'd guess a couple of hundred at least, and that's a conservative estimate. No one would want to sift through all that. But that's why we have that really spiffy search function.

I think the mods are doing a good job now. When the system went online a while back, there were some slight power issues shown, but I haven't noticed any of late. They are rather polite, knowledgeable, and committed despite the "non-paid" aspect of the job. Think of it this way people, they love coasters, and they love talking about coasters...so much so that they dedicate their time to put up with us on a daily basis for nothing
