View Full Version : Whatever happened to Great Escapes plans?....

I recall that last year, in early July (I think) there was some local news thing on TV or in the paper or something that said the Great Escape (Lake George, NY) had plans for 2001 that included a parking garage and a new Intamin hypercoaster. The plans were yet to be approved. 10 months later, it is obvious that this is not going to happen. Does anyone know what happened to these plans? I am assuming they were not approved, but I would like to know if anyone else has heard anything about this...

[ This Message was edited by: boardadmin on 2001-07-14 17:09 ]

The last thing I've heard is that the local people are fighting any expansion of The Great Escape because it will add more traffic, pollution, and noise. There was a story in The Times Union on Friday about the current plans. Here's a link for it:
Lets hope that an expansion comes soon. This park is only an hour away and it could definately use some more rides.

Here is the most recent update on the future of The Great Escape.
Any plans for expansion have been put on hold until the results of a traffic, noise, and pollution study are complete.

I was there a week or so ago and they getting a new ride like in the back of the park. The ops said it was a sky coaster but sure doesn't look like it.It looked like a drop type ride. They are looking in to getting a new coaster or two next year trust me.The town of Queensberry won't let them, but if that passes then the new"coasters" and drop ride will be put up.The prop is they allready have bought theses rides but can't them up.Look around and u will find the answer to all the news u need.Back by jungle area look there.

The park does need improvements. The Comet is great but other than that, the park offers little. A Intamin hypercoaster would be nice but with SFNE and SFDL so close by, an Inverted coaster would fit best IMO.
