View Full Version : Terrible Parks

There are some parks that just deserve to be demolished and built from the ground up because they are just so irrecovebly bad. I voted Elitch Gardens in Denver. There's no space to build. It's dirty. The employees are unenthusiastic. There's no real good rides. Besides the ferris wheel, there's no charm. It needs to go.

So does Cedar Point. And Magic Mountain.

A few years ago, I would've said Riverside Park (now 6 Flags New England), but it's really improved since it's been bought by Premier/Six Flags (except now the crowds are terrible!)

No park should be torn down...Any park could be improved with one good coaster
Except Elitch Gardens. Of course another coaster would drastically improve it, but there's no space. It's surrounded by the Platte River that cyclists would want to keep pristine rather than have screaming people overhead, and several highways and large buildings. It's impossible. They need to just start over.

i Say Astro Land in NYC thats not even a park u risk getting shot while getting there and muged in the entrance to the Cyclone also the rest of the rides are 89%dangers! get rid of it and keep the cyclone and beach but keep them cleaner!and the cylone safer!

Yeah, I agree. Astroland is in the projects and its pretty frieky getting there. Id say 90% dangers. Haha. And its pretty tacky, too, at least whats open.

The only reason to visit Astroland is for the Cyclone. It isn't the nicest place in the world. I went on a scrambler, and the guy left it running for 8 minutes. We timed it. I never get sick on rides, but after all that I thought I was going to barf.

I'm reserving judgment until or unless I actually visit, but I've heard horror stories about Ghost Town in the Sky in North Carolina. Their main coaster is Red Devil, and a buddy of mine split his lip when they hit a bump on the lift hill.(That big a bump shouldn't happen on the track at all, but on the lift hill?!)

Among the worst park I had been to, Six Flags New England is one awful park, despite it has my #1 coaster.

First, it's is very dirty. Ketchup on floor, what the ..........

Second, 8 bucks for parking on sand and gravel, plus they didn't even bother to use the trams on Saturday, and raining too! Universal Orlando charges one dollar less, but with auto walkways, plus enclosed garages.

Third, very very rude guests, line jumping is everywhere.

Fourth, lousy park layout which creates choke point.

Fifth, lousy and expensive food.

Theming or no: Six Flags parks do have horrible employees for the most part.

Panther525
05-25-2001, 01:34 AM
Actually, i believe the moods of the six flags employees has to do with the weather and the ride they are operating. Operators on Goliath in April are invariably going to be nicer than operators on say a boomerang coaster in the middle of august.

What Cedar Point lacks in theming it makes up one thousand fold in thrills- it's not a theme park it's an amusement park! Have you ever rode the Millenium Force? If you had, you'd never say another word of critisizm towards the Point again. Cedar Point is undoubtedly the best park in the world... and I've been to quite a few! (I'm going to CP again tomarrow.. oh the joy of rollercoasters!)

Nostalgi, Dollywood is pretty bad. There best ride sucks! They have 2 coasters, one of which is not really a rollercoaster. The Tenessee Tornado really blows. For one it is very short and really has nothing to it. It's just like kiddy ride, but with loops. Very weak except for its hill which gives you the feel that you might hit your head. The only reason I had an OK time at Dollywood was because it was having and international festival and I got to see some Kenyan acrobats. Except for that, it was a bust.
Six flags attempts theming, and its so horrible they'd be better off with actual LANDSCAPING like Cedar Point!! Also, ever notice how enthusiastic most Cedar Point employees are? Even if they are bored out of their mind they still make things interesting. Their staff is almost as good as WDW's staff, while Six Flags has the worst staff.

goonsta
06-25-2001, 07:07 PM
I'll admit CP's staff is a little more enthusiastic than SFGam's. I've seen some of the same attitudes from SFGam at CP however. When you go to your home park often, there's more of an oppurtunity to point out bad things along with good. I like CP more than my home park slightly, and that's mainly because of MF. The only other ride that I find better than a SFGam version is Mantis.
SFGam wasn't put in a heavily landscaped area from the start. SfSTL and SFoG are MILES ahead of CP on theming AND landscaping. The worst SixFlags I've been to is SFKK. It had 2 rides closed, one train on the opened coasters, a horrible layout and about 4 places to get food that were open.

Conneautt Lake PArk, in NE PA should be closed. It has been dead for years now, and it is becoming unsafe. My daughter left the Blue STreak coaster with a bloody face, it was so rough. Sure there are many fond memories, but now the park is a farce.

Okay, if you ask any theme park fanatic about a theme park and they go, "What?" then that park should be demolished. Heh, heh, heh [evil grin]. I hate unkown parks.....I just despise them like they're pests to the theme park industry.

I think this is going a little too far. Six Flags parks have horrible rides? Don't even get me started on the number of good quality roller coasters at Six Flags parks. Okay, so they do have some operations problems, but I believe that for the most part they are trying to improve them. My visit to SFNE this year was great. There were two-train operations on all coasters, immaculately cleaned grounds, and very courteous employees, and this is a park that many consider to be at the bottom of the Six Flags chain. They may not be perfect, but they ain't that bad!

Ironic that SFEG got the most votes for the park that should be torn down and rebuilt from the ground. Ironic because that is exactly what they did just 6 years ago.

They moved from a small plot in a burb, to a slightly larger spot, right on I25, with great access and visibility.

The spot is still too small for a world class theme park, but Denver does only have 2.5 million people within a couple hour drive. Compare that to SFMM with 10 million in LA county, and probably another 10-15 million within a couple hour drive of SFMM.

Even if you spread that 20-25 million across the 3-4 parks you still have a MUCH larger customer base.

Same with CP. 11 million people in Ohio.

Elitch Gardens will add a couple more coasters over the next decade, and that's about all this state can support for now.

I have to agree with most of the things people have said about Six Flags on this topic. They do have theming, but frankly I would prefer no theming at all to this Batman/Superman/etc theming. Staff are not usually great. Amazingly, the guy running Chaos when I was at SFNE the other week was quite enthusiastic! (only problem was he took more than five minutes to load and unload the ride). You should have seen the staff at SFNE before it was a Six Flags... SF has actually improved them.

Kennywood's woodies are short, but contain unique elements--Racer's one track, J-rabbit's double dip...
Anyone hear of Lakemont Park in Central PA. They have a decent woodie, Skyliner, and the oldest coaster in the world, Leap the Dips, but the management sucks. They need to put another decent ride in. All the rides are carnival type, meaning they are on wheels, or are rusting.

The worst park I've ever been to is my home park Jazzland. It's just an oversized carnival that just so happens to have a good woody, a Vekoma boomerang, and a very small wild mouse coaster. All the rest are spin and pukes, and I would have liked Jazzland more if they added the SLC they promised, but, since they ditched that for an S&S Frog Hopper, my disliking of Jazzland has gone up a few notches. They want to expand and actually be in the competition right now, but how are they going to, if that's all they build? However, some of the staff is nice. (not too much of them)

SIX FLAGS KENTUCKY KINGDOM IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PARK IN THE COUNTRY !!!!! PERIOD !!! There is a friggan highway down the middle of the park. Not to mention all their coasters suck except the WIld Mouse. AND all the sucky coasters run a single train operation ALL THE TIME (atleast whenever I've been ). It's layout is the absolute worst, and their rides take false claims to fame. T2 wasn;'t the world's first suspended looping coaster, that would have been Batman. Twisted Sisters wasn't eh first deuling coasters. I believe that would have been Deuling Dragons. Chang was still advertised as the world's longest tallest fastest etc. stand up coaster in the world AFTER riddlers revenge opened !! And Thunder Run was advertised as the scariest coaster in the world ! that just makes me laugh.SFKK BLOWS GOATS FOR FUN !!!!

I used to be a SFEG basher. Then I ran some numbers. It has 2 million people within a couple hour's drive. There is no way they could ever be a Magic Mountain, CP, WDW, SFOT.... Those parks have potential audiences in the tens of millions. If you have 5 times the number of guests, you'll have 5 times as many cool coasters.

I'm just happy they finally drew lines on the floor of Mind Eraser so that people would quit going to the wrong seats. Oh yeah, and they still have a busty girl in the Broadway-style show.

I hoping that they get a new coaster to replace the non-cost-effective Sidewinder. If that is a couple years off, then I just won't have to go back for a couple more years.
