View Full Version : Favorite inverted?

There are many great inverts out there. But out of what I call the "Big 4" what is everybodies favorite?
Dueling Dragons?

you forgot the best of them all, talon, that opened today. but of your list i'ld have to say dueling dragons because of the air time hill on fire and the dueling affect. the Q line adds alot too

05-05-2001, 10:51 PM
Well, I didn't include Talon because it is not as big as the 4 listed above.

05-05-2001, 11:05 PM
DD. I apreciate new ideas. Having an awsome layout and theming also helps.

05-06-2001, 12:16 AM
I have only ridden Raptor and Dueling Dragons and in my opinion, I'd have to say Raptor wins!

Alpengeist is my favorite inverted.
It has a good line of inversions,
good themeing,
and a good layout that uses the parks natural landscaping.

05-06-2001, 02:25 AM
none of the above.
Top Gun at PGA. That 4.8 g Loop and helix are sooo awsome

05-06-2001, 03:01 AM
Alpengeist, although since Im going to Dorney on June 1st that may change to Talon.

05-06-2001, 10:01 AM
That's tough. I'd say that Raptor has the best single design, and Dueling Dragons has the cool double design...It's hard to compare them. Though I might like Talon better when I go there in August.

05-06-2001, 10:13 AM
Mine right now is montu but it will soon change to Talon

05-07-2001, 09:48 AM
Alpengeist at night or day: great view.
Dueling Dragons for the station.
And Mind Eraser at SFA the first year it opened. I got to ride it 10 times, front seat, and without those NEW extra large (extra UNCOMFORTABLE) OTS restraints. What happened to all the Vekoma inverteds? They USED to be great!

05-07-2001, 10:27 AM
Oh, please! You all forgot about the first and best inverted: Batman: The Ride at SFGAm. All others come in a distant second.

05-07-2001, 10:33 AM
raptor is cool, but dueling dragons is better because its TWO coasters. nothing compares to those near-misses...

05-07-2001, 11:31 AM
well, i haven't been on any other inverted coasters outside the UK so my top 2 is TraumaTIZER and Nemesis ... or is only for USA Coasters?

ALPENGEIST BY A LONGSHOT!!!! Raptor is OK, it's just too overrated. Dueling dragons is AWESOME, but it just lacks that, how can I put that, UMPH that Alpengeist has. Montu ALMOST makes it there, but not quite, although it's my second favorite. I just got back from my trip.... TALON looks great, but I don't think it matches up to Alpengeist... then again, who am I to judge a book by its cover.

05-07-2001, 02:20 PM
I haven't ridden Montu or DD yet, but between Raptor and Alpengeist, I'll take Raptor. Talon looks like it may just beat both of these, but I have yet to ride it.

Have ridden 3 Inverted coasters (4 if you count each side of Dueling Dragons)...
Of those 4, my favorite is Montu. Great pacing, fun ride.
Next in line is Great Bear. Would be a truely great coaster if it would be a little longer.
Way down on my coaster list is Dueling Dragons. Bad pacing and dueling effects that are lost on all but the front seat, I found this one to be mediocre at best and highly overrated.

05-07-2001, 03:56 PM
You all suck. Top Gun at Carowinds is the best.

They are all pretty much equal in my book. I've only ridden Alpie, Raptor, Great Bear, and Dueling Dragons, and of those only the Ice Dragon stands out as a lesser ride.
Oh, alright. Maybe I'll give a little edge to Great Bear. Here's why:
1) cool and unusual helix before the first drop
2) no brake run = no dull parts
3) it's spread over a pretty big area and has a low inversion count, so you have a lot of chances to feel how fast and smooth these rides really are without being flipped around every few seconds

05-07-2001, 11:29 PM
Definitely Batman: The Ride! What a sweet ride! Super-intense!
I've never ridden any of the others but they all look sweet.

Alpengeist, hands down. It has everything: size, speed, a nice sequence of inversions, and the landscaping. What a beautiful color scheme.
Now, I do hold a special place in my heart for Batman at SFGAM. It was my first (you never forget your first) inverted, and is still the only one that - here comes the corny part - make my feet tingle when it whips back into the station. Just a perfect, compact ride layout. I have a pretty sweet RCT version, too!

may the FORCE be with you

Without a doubt in my mind, Volcano: The Blast Coaster! It is by far the most overlooked roller coaster in the world. Hopefully people will now learn what a masterpiece intamin has created now that everybody wants to go to PKD to ride Hypersonic XLC and the new Flight Of Fear. Make sure to ride the Volcano, because the launch is just as amazing as Millennium Force's first drop! Intamin really knows how to get rides pumping, not arrow or premier or B&M. The blast with your feet dangling is an amazing thrill, blasted straight up seeing nothing but smoke, and then all of a sudden all you see is the sun directly in front of you. Millennium Force is 80 degrees down, but this is 90 degrees. Straight up. And so people know, Alpengeist is next followed by Top Gun at Carowinds and Raptor.

05-08-2001, 12:47 AM
Raptor, its small and tight!

05-08-2001, 04:25 AM
I must say my fav is Alpengeist. Sweet, fast and full of ummph. I would say Volcano but the dratted ride is too short and the queue lines too long. By the time you get on and back off again, you wonder what you waited in line for. Even the fast pass system is a joke on Volcano, waiting over an hour for a time slot that was supposed to be immediate. I dunno, between the Volcano and Hypersonic malfunctions, I find myself retreating to the not-so crowded woodies.

Dueling Dragon Fire gets my vote. I love the near misses and the great inversions of Fire. And it's the only invert I've been on that had some good airtime.

Even thought I like the dueling aspect of DD, I just love the Raptor, it is an overall excellent ride.

05-08-2001, 11:46 AM
MInd eraser and jokers jinx and when batwing comes out that will be i know it it looks so sweet i will be the first to ride it.

05-08-2001, 11:50 AM
I've ridden all but Alpengiest and I'd have to say Raptor is my favorite with DD a close second.

I am still waiting for my Batwing Flying coaster to open at my 6Flags at the end of this month. You dive into the first loop head first looking up at the sky, though its a flying coaster, its still inverted and believe with 8 inversions will top most.

Out of what I have been on (Aplengiest, Batman @ SFGAdv, Great Bear, and Talon) Talon is definately the best. It is compact, intense, fast, and has a great color scheme!

of what i've been on Alpengeist was the best, and i imagine it probably will remain that way for a while. Volcano was highly overrated. The launch was cool, but three leisurely 0-G rolls really wasn't all that spectacular, even as high up as they were. It would've lived up to its hype if it had some giant loops, immlemans, or cobra rolls, and a few more drops to the thing. the one drop on it went directly into the brakes to a dead stop, and of course brakes are our least favorite ride element. That's a redesign I want to see.
I agree. The launches are incredible, but once Volcano leaves the mountain, it becomes mediocre in a hurry. To be fair, that's a problem with most launched coasters - you have a spectacular launch attached to an otherwise unremarkable ride. (Notable exception-->Hulk)

05-08-2001, 10:59 PM
Montu, Raptor, Alpengiest, and Dueling Dragons.

05-09-2001, 07:48 PM
You all forgot about BATMAN: THE RIDE! Possibly B&M's most genious design to date!

Okay, I think the best are Alpengeist, Montu, and Pyrenees. They are the most kick-ass inverteds out there! Alpengeist is my fave out of the three!

06-29-2001, 10:16 PM
The only incerts I've ever ridden is Batman in 6FoG and Great White in Sea World of Texas.
And they're EXACTLY the same (yet my brother doesn't believe me. Humph, what does he know about coasters?)

hmmm to many to list.... Well the best are Alpengeist Montu Raptor And talon is awesome

08-10-2001, 05:51 PM
DD first of it kind

08-10-2001, 06:03 PM
montu, its a beast!!

08-10-2001, 06:06 PM
I would have to say Raptor. Montu just didnt seem to be as intense and exciting as Raptor. Those are the only inverted coasters I've ridden. I've ridden to SLC coasters though, and I thought both of those were terrible. ( T2 @ SFKK and Serial Thriller @ SFWOA )

08-11-2001, 12:40 PM
I would half to say Dueling Dragons, then, probably Alpengiest.

Top Gun : The Jet Coaster and Alpengeist are batteling out for my number 1 inverted spot. Both are pretty sweet.

I'd say Nemesis, but I've only ridden that and Batman at SFMM. Also, moving to Polls!

The biggest inverted coaster is always the best. Alpengeist gets my pick for my fave inverted. Although it won't claim the title of being the tallest inverted overall for long once the Déjà Vu's (196 feet tall [each]) and Odyssey (265 feet [rumored height]) open, it will still certainly be one of the best. It has great height, speed, theming, huge inversions, smoothness, and the coaster just looks awesome! I mean it blends really well with the Virginian atmosphere in Busch Gardens Williamsburg, even though it is themed to the European Alps. Alpengeist truly rocks! There are also a lot of other inverted roller coasters that are awesome. Volcano: The Blast Coaster surely stands out because it's the current fastest inverted coaster in the world (70 m.p.h.), it's got great theming, and its launches are incredible. Montu is extraordinary because of its theming, location, inversions, speed, and its deep trenches. Raptor is great because it still stands proud and strong as the first of the "large inverteds." I love this coaster because its green structure really stands out just as soon as you enter Cedar Point. Plus, you don't have to walk (or run) so far back behind the park just to get in line for a 2:16 minute ride. Even though it's new, Talon is one of the best inverted coaster I've ridden because it's super smooth (in fact too smooth to be true), really quiet, and it's probably got the best color scheme on any inverted (or an any coaster in general) coaster. The coaster is pure eye candy. Dueling Dragons is also one of my faves because of its queue and intricate theming. I have never seen so much detail put on a queue. It definitely wins hands down in the theming department. It's also got some good near-collision incidents (especially the vertical loops - WHEW!). Top Gun The Jetcoaster is also awesome even though it's not as well known as other inverteds. It's pretty similar to both Montu and Alpengeist in a way. It's similar to Montu because it also has a batwing element. The mist-filled batwing is pretty intense. Top Gun The Jetcoaster is similar to Alpengeist because both their color schemes seem almost identical. It's as if you're looking at a scaled down (WAAAY scaled down - try 82 feet shorter) version of Alpengeist. Anyway, Top Gun's acceleration down the first drop is rather rapid. I mean the space drop (first drop) is just over a hundred feet long, but the acceleration of the coaster's trains makes it feel like you've dropped 145 feet! If I go abroad, I'd love to ride Italy's Katun and Japan's Pyrenees. I'd have to say that both inverteds are probably the most awesome inverteds outside of America. They seem really intense, although I do not know much about them. I'd also love to ride Nemesis when I got to England (if I ever go to England) because its location, theming, and awesome legchopper effects are to die for. As you all may have noticed, I am just as much of an inverted coaster fan as you all. Inverted roller coasters rule!

08-11-2001, 02:55 PM
i would have to say dueling dragons, but if there wasn't a "dueling" aspect to it, neither coaster would be as good by itself. the best undueling inverted is raptor by FAR

08-12-2001, 12:53 AM
I have to say Batman the Ride at SFMM because that is the only one i've ever been on.

Carowinds 73-03

Raptor with TG@PC in a close second.
