Get ready --- Hersheypark's coaster set for 2002 has leaked to local media. Although details of height, speed, etc are sketchy.....the name of the coaster is ****"SPLASH FORCE"**** and will be located behind "TIDAL FORCE" and "CANYON RIVER RAPIDS."

Construction is set to begin in August, although there are already markings, stakes and flags on the land for clearing, which should be taking place in a few weeks.

Setpoint is the designer. More info:
The new ride is based on Setpoint's award winning Swing Thing design, a
suspended coaster that gives riders an exhilarating free-flying sensation.
Patent-pending technology allows the ride to swing freely with both
front-to-back and side-to-side swinging motion. The design allows guests on
the ground to interact with riders in an aerial water battle, featuring water
bombs, mist clouds, water cannons, and exploding geysers.
Setpoint's engineers and designers are working with the park to make this
Swing Thing the most exciting yet. The new design is taller and longer,
giving riders even more time to experience the ride's exciting interactive
features.
Joe VanDenBerghe, Setpoint's president said, "The Swing Thing was a huge
success at Paramount's Carowinds and now the new custom Swing Thing design
will have fifty percent greater rider capacity and additional interactive
water effects. This will allow more park guests the opportunity to
participate in the funnest interactive attraction available today."

Setpoint built the world's first interactive suspended coaster for
Paramount's Carowinds Amusement Park in North Carolina in 1999. The Flying
Super Saturator was ground zero for the industry's most innovative and
incredible attraction.
Setpoint's engineers and designers have over 150 years of experience
designing and manufacturing the worlds tallest, fastest and most exciting
attractions.

i agree....what a stupid ride this should be. and, i am sure it has been scaled down like everything else they have done.

What are you talking about - "scaled down"? Lightning Racer and WildCat are two of the greatest wooden coaster you will ever ride, Great Bear is an excellent invert, Comet is a classic wooden coaster, Trailblazer is kinda pathetic, but has some good headchoppers, Sea Serpent is one of the best Boomerangs I have ridden, and SooperDooperLooper is a very intense Schawrzkopf single looper! Nothing in Hershey is scaled down!
Well, I still have to see proof of the "scaled down" comments to believe them. However, the part about "what a stupid ride this should be" I won't argue with.

Do you have a link to the official story?? Sounds cool! I was hoping for somthing REALLY big but hey, better than a kiddie coaster

The one at carowinds isnt great at all. I rode it once. The only thing those swing things are good for is for a quick splash. The lines are horrible! 2 hours for that crappy thing!? And besides, everyone gets pissed in the line because the little kids always get the water guns adjacent to the lines and shoot the line walkers, not the coaster like they were intended to do. Carowinds Saturator always seems to have problems with the pump system for the water spouts, so sometimes its just a dry kiddie ride.

Grr...I was hoping for a hyper. Oh well, I guess this'll have to do. Well, I guess it's better than nothing . BTW, are the rumors about the supposed freefall true?

hmm the idea sounds fun and interesting, but they shoudl expect not so good things from this, for a new "water" type ride, they should expect rider ship to be low on rainy, cool, or cloudy like days... even then lines wouldnt be as long for a "world-class coaster" ... there lines for this ride will be slightly shorter, sounds fun but i rather see hershey go for a hyper or maybe a floorless or stand-up

Actually I am very hyped to ride this. I never rode the FSS at Carowinds, and a water ride like this sounds pretty cool. Hey guys, you gotta admit it is a better way to cool off than the log flume!

I think this belongs in the new rumors section and will be moved there.

I never knew Hersheypark was even going to build another coaster. A suspended water coaster like that seems pretty cool. Is it actually confirmed yet? Hersheypark needs another B&M coaster.

It's not confirmed yet, but as the way things are going (announcement at Setpoint's website, and the surveyours at Hershey) it does look likely that it will happen. I also agree with whoever said about how on a cold, cool, or rainy day, how it won't get much ridership...just seems like a bad idea. I can see what they will aim it to, hot summer days, where people don't wanna get totally soaked on Tidal Force. Which brins me to my next point. Splash Force? I don't think theyre gonna have two "forces" right next to each other. I still look forward to it, but I'd still rather see some type of steel coaster or S&S

haha kiddie coaster huh?
and you consider a SUPER SOAKER SATURATOR clone NOT a kiddie coaster? it's more of a kiddie koaster then a WILD MOUSE!
i'd rather ride another EXTERMINATOR indoor wild mouse then a water/interactive ride!

i was always a heavey kinda kid growing up, and i never liked water parks, so water rides are dumb! ahha
