i have only ridden montu so i can't fully answer. however, from what i see, alpengiest is a better ride.

05-09-2001, 05:21 PM
Have ridden both and I liked Montu a little bit better.

05-09-2001, 06:26 PM
Hmm, Been on Montu about 30 times. Rode Alpengeist once.
I like the theming of Alpengeist, and it "feels" faster through elements. I couldn't tell where I was going through most of the ride.
I think Alpengeist is my pick, though I wish I'd have rode it once more.

The mountain ghost all the way.

05-09-2001, 06:59 PM
This is no competition....Alpengist!

05-09-2001, 07:08 PM
Look at the name. So alpengeist. However Montu is pretty mackin too

05-09-2001, 07:35 PM
I think we knew that AlpengeistLover!

05-10-2001, 12:30 AM
Montu during the pre-brake stage. As of now, it would be Alpengeist!!!!!!

05-10-2001, 08:04 AM
I didn't expect much from Montu and it blew me away.
I expected too much of Alpengeist and it was dissapointing...
Montu was a slightly better ride... Of course The last time I rode it was before they apparently slowed it down.

Well, given the choice, I'd definatly say Montu, and yes I've ridden both quite a few times (Montu ~20, Alpengiest ~100). Montu definatly has a better first drop, although I've seen kiddie coasters with better first drops then Alpengiest. I'll take Montus Batwing over Alpies Cobra Roll any day.
The finale is where the big snow 'beast' really gets whooped. Pre-braking, Alpie was rather forceful, but now it's almost painfully (by B&M standards anyway) slow, while Montu is doing the very cool break-your-legs-on-the-trench-wall routine.
Overall, my B&M inverted rankings go like this.
1. Fire Dragon
2. Montu
3. Batman: TR (SFoG)
4. Ice Dragon
5. Alpengiest
6. Great Bear

05-10-2001, 12:40 PM
Alpengiest is much more powerful and has incredible themeing.

05-10-2001, 06:50 PM
montu is much better, especially the terrain usage. if alpengeist had great themeing, wouldn't it have more of an arctic surrounding?

05-10-2001, 07:12 PM
They are both excellent coasters I dont even think i could pick they both rock

I hated montu. I expected the world, and it was lame. I love Alpengeist. Alpengeist's drop is awesome. BACK LEFT SEAT, BABY!

05-11-2001, 08:45 AM
ALPENGEIST for the gorgeous views..sweeping heights..etc
MONTU for the tightness, buried loops, etc.
Can't we just call it a tie?

I like Montu better, as alpengiestlover said so elequently "it's pretty mackin too."
It had better colors, better theme, better elements, better pacing, better speed, and better use of terrain.
I'm not trying to diss alpie in ANY way, I'm just saying that there is a better coaster out there. Alpengeist, or even the worst B&M invert could BLOW AWAY any SLC, any day.

[ This Message was edited by: skatestreet on 2001-05-27 22:36 ]

Alpengeist is just the tiniest bit better if you ask me.

05-27-2001, 11:15 PM
alpie has an awesome drop

05-27-2001, 11:33 PM

may the FORCE be with you
05-28-2001, 01:06 AM
I thought Alpengeist's speed and first drop were MUCH more impressive than Montu, but I was younger and it was the first season back when i rode the Alpengeist. I don't know if it has changed, but if it is the same, it beats Montu.

05-28-2001, 04:17 AM
Now Alpengeist may be taller, and faster, but Montu has more inversions. Plus there is also something about Montu that in my mind makes Montu just a little better than Alpengeist. Now I have been on Montu 4 times but Alpengeist only once, but since i have ridden both rides I feel i have a right in saying that at least to me, Montu Rules!!!

05-28-2001, 12:25 PM
Both of these coasters look amazing. Job well done by Busch Gardens. I get to ride Alpengeist this summer! I can't wait!

[ This Message was edited by: murchison1 on 2001-05-28 12:31 ]

Let us all pay our respects to the ancient Egyptian Gods.
Montu, in other words.

06-07-2001, 08:35 AM
Montu Rocks!!!!!!!

06-07-2001, 09:43 AM
while i havent ridden montu,i did ride alpie, and, to tell you all the truth, i thought it didnt live up to its reputation.it was a good coaster, nothing special IMO.after seeing the disc. channel show,i am definately gonna take a road trip to BGT.

I get to ride Alpengeist in 1 more week! It'll be my second inverted coaster(first is Top Gun).
I think Alpie looks a tad bit more thrilling that Montu though, because Alpie is buried in trees but Montu makes up for it with tight tunnels.

06-07-2001, 01:18 PM
Alpengeist All the way the cobra roll and cutting curves are remarkable<..>
.

06-07-2001, 05:26 PM
Alpengist 4 ever all the way!!!!!

06-07-2001, 06:11 PM
Both are fabulous rides but are very different. Alpenghiest focuses on high speed and big invversions wile Montu has more elements and theming during the ride. For me... a tie...

06-07-2001, 06:28 PM
montu that ride is so sweet.

06-07-2001, 07:28 PM

Montu by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

06-08-2001, 09:14 AM
Having never rode Montu I truly can't judge on ride quality, but if its anything like Alpie its an awesome ride. I give montu the award simply because the theming looks extreme. I sit in awe when I watch that coaster on videos and I dream of the day when I can ride it. It doesn't help that I like Batwing elements more than cobra rolls, another edge over Alpie.
(the only batwing elements I ever rode were technically Arrow boomerangs on the SAGM and Steel Phantom so I hope they are as good if not better than an Arrow boomerang)

06-08-2001, 10:40 AM
It was silly to say that you have seen kiddie coasters with better drops than Alpengiest...please spare me.I would prefer Alpengiest because of sheer hieght and speed

07-30-2001, 12:45 PM
What do you think is better? alpengeist or montu? i like alpengeist better.

Raging Rider
07-30-2001, 12:47 PM
Raptor beats both!

07-30-2001, 12:49 PM
Montu....it is the only one i have been on out of those two

07-30-2001, 12:50 PM
Alpengeist is clearly better. I don't like the spacing between elements on Montu, the inversions are all too far apart, especially the zero-g roll and batwing. I also don't like how hard the brakes are on and the brake before the batwing. Alpengeist was just a better ride. I like cobra rolls more than batwings, too.

07-30-2001, 12:55 PM
i agree. and whoever said that raptor is better, i ahve not been on it so i didnt include it but feel free to include raptor in the discussion. the other reason i left raptor out is because montu and alpengeist have sort of a rivalry going.

07-30-2001, 01:11 PM
I think montu is better b/c some inversions are half buried

07-30-2001, 01:18 PM
yes but on alpengeist there is less space between elements. :)

Montu But I Like Dueling Dragons.

07-30-2001, 01:22 PM
Alpengeist is good but Montu is better IMO

07-30-2001, 01:23 PM
i aint never been on no dueling dragons, see. (mofia tone intended)

07-30-2001, 01:36 PM
Out of these two, I perfer Montu. I really like the way the coaster dives through the trenches, and how a lot of it is hidden until just before you encounter it.

I think both Alpengeist and Montu are pretty cool in their own ways. Alpengeist is awesome because of its height, speed, and power. Montu is awesome because of its inversions, theming, and great ride effects. I think I'd go with Alpengeist since it's the very first inverted coaster I've ridden and is still the tallest inverted coaster in the world. It's technically still the tallest because any of the Déjà Vus haven't opened it yet. Also, England's Odyssey (future largest inverted coaster) is still in construction. Even though, it's still the most awesome inverted coaster out there! I love it!

Please post all threads that deal with either:
A. "blank vs. blank"
B. "What's your favorite....?
C. "What's the best....?
in the Polls forum. Moving there now.

07-30-2001, 01:54 PM
Montu, but Raptor is better than both

07-30-2001, 02:18 PM
Of those two I'd say that Alpengeist is better. Raptor is better than both however, imho.

07-30-2001, 02:22 PM
I have only been on Alpengeist and it is great, but IMO Volcano is better.

07-30-2001, 03:42 PM
Montu more inversions!

07-30-2001, 04:31 PM
Alpengeist By far. i like montu but alpengiest was much more intense.

07-31-2001, 11:35 AM
Here are my B&M invert raitings, of those i have ridden

1. Montu (i like the space between elements and the undergroundness better than Alpengiest.)
2. Alpengiest
3. Dueling Dragons (singularly they are 3rd but collectively possibly first.)
4. Great Bear
5. B:TR

08-03-2001, 11:20 PM
Alpengeist because this beast doesnt let you go till tthe brakes while montu gives u time to breathe which kind of stops the action

08-14-2001, 03:50 PM
Montu, the only one i've been on

08-14-2001, 03:59 PM
I'll say Montu
