View Full Version : Which coaster do you think is the most underated coaster.

05-05-2001, 09:32 PM
There are a lot of coasters that never get the attention they deserve. One of these is the Georgia Scorcher! I hear everyone snickering but it is one of my favorite rides!

05-05-2001, 09:51 PM
Mr. Twister II at Elitch Gardens in Denver. I heard it was terrible compared to the originial Mr. Twister. But I loved Twister II. Especially the tunnel. And it's neat to have that huge central courtyard that everything surrounds.

05-05-2001, 09:52 PM
I've noticed that the Georgia Schorcher does not get alot of attention. Why I don't know. Some other coasters I can think of that don't get alot of attention are KATUN, DRAGON KHAN, and I also noticed that out of the speed coasters that RAGING BULL gets the least credit. I hate when awesome rides dont get the credit they deserve!!!

05-05-2001, 09:56 PM
How about Chang? It sounds awesome! I wouldn't know though (hence the underrated tag)

05-05-2001, 09:57 PM
i think raging bull at sfgam (six flags great america) and viper at sfgam. They are so awesome yet t.v. specials for parks and coasters don't even mention it.

I'd have to go with Shockwave at SFoT. It has excellent positive G forces in the loops and great airtime on the hills following. What a classic.

05-05-2001, 10:04 PM
Top Gun at Paramount's Carowinds. It is my favorite out of Volcano, Alpengeist, Raptor, and Batman. It is my third favorite coaster because the speed is tremendous with amazing G forces and incredible smoothness.

Great topic!
Some of the best underrated coasters are overshadowed by flashy, but inferior, rides in the same park.
Take, for example, the Hersheypark Wildcat. That's the best coaster in the park for my money, but it doesn't get any attention sitting across from the gorgeous Lightning Racer. Lightning Racer rides like a kiddy coaster compared to Wildcat.
I'll get roasted for this next one, but here goes. Gemini at Cedar Point, which I've always found to be more fun than it's neighbor, Magnum XL-200. Maybe it's the shorter queues on Gemini.
One last underrated gem: Big Bad Wolf, which is proof that superior design can overcome inferior technology. It's a suspended coaster, so by all rights it should stink. But it's a blast anyway.

05-05-2001, 10:16 PM
Amen! I think Gemini is one of the funnest coasters I've ever ridden, but Magnum was just...boring. Very dissapointing.

05-05-2001, 10:24 PM
Oh by far Grizzly at PKD is the most underrated coaster around. In my opinion its the only good coaster in the park. I think the main reason it doesn't get a lot of attention is because Grizzly at PGA is terrible.

05-05-2001, 10:27 PM
the tower of terror at dreamworld australia
it's the sister of superman: the escape and never gets mentioned, even though it was the FIRST coaster to break the 100mph mark

Dr. Insanity
05-05-2001, 10:30 PM
I hear that, B&MAaron. Grizzly at PKD is terrific! The best part is that after the first drop, the ride slows to a crawl for a second and you expect the rest to be tame. Ha! You spend the rest of the ride in mortal fear of being decapitated. Best head-chopper ride I can think of.

[ This Message was edited by: Dr. Insanity on 2001-05-05 22:31 ]

I think thunder hawk at dorney is underrated. the thing has awesome air time. I also find the mighty canadian mine buster to be one of the best woodies i have riden. it is very smooth with major air time. if it was not in canada it would be considered awesome

Nick D
05-05-2001, 11:43 PM
Jeremy you are right. I love the loops and the airtime. It is cool going over the go-karts.

05-06-2001, 12:31 AM
Wow I'm suprised a couple of you like the Grizzly at PKD. I rode it and didn't think that highly of it. I am going to ride it again this summer. I'll give it another whirl. This also happened on my first ride on Goliath at Magic Mountain. I didn't think much of it until I rode it again. I think it was the 3hr wait. Anyway's Most underrated coaster. Okay here goes: Volcano at PKD. Man that is the most awesome invert I have ever been on. But it doesn't seem that anyone agrees. Maybe it's just me.... Thats okay I still love that ride.

05-06-2001, 01:51 AM
What about the Disaster Transport? All dark rides suck I know, but this things first hill was a pleasant surprise!

05-06-2001, 03:05 AM
Drachen Fire, all people do is complain about how rough it was for them to ride.

05-06-2001, 08:29 AM
Good topic:
RAMPAGE at Visionland. Did not know what to expect, and it totally impressed me. Especially the 2nd half. And in the dark..WHOA!!
WILDCAT at Hersheypark. Again, looked great and rode even better. And I love the attention to detail in the station. Just a gorgeous coaster and work of art.
The VILLIAN at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure (The park formally knows as Six Flags Ohio and Geauga Lake.) Nice design, great speed, and I like the cars. Better than PTC rolling stock and those uncomfortable individual locking bars.
The CYCLONE at Williams Grove. Man, it took me about 4 hours to find this park after leaving Dutch Wonderland. It is located in the middle of NOWEHERE! And the coaster itself sits back in the woods. But it is fun, rickety, and unassuming. If you are in the area, check it out!
The GIANT DIPPERS at San Diego and Santa Cruz. You can't go wrong with twister coasters on a boardwalk overlooking the ocean.
Thre HURLERS at Carowinds and PKD. Nice design, fun, fast, great theming, and the safety video in the station with Mike Myers. Do they still have that? I had heard they removed all Waynes World references.
And finally GEMINI. Yup, it was my first BIG coaster back when it opened in 1978 and still remains what every coaster should be: F-U-N!!

05-06-2001, 01:18 PM
I think WildFire at SDC was extremely underated, it deserves better, but Nitro and Titan took all the wows this season.

05-06-2001, 02:07 PM
Raging Bull is defianetly the most underrated coasted compared to Nitro and Apollos Chariot (WOW WERE OUT AND BACK COASTERS HOW BORING ARE WE - GOD THAT MAKES ME MAD )At least Raging Bull ads some spice to it. You know gives it a little twist. Its also the only one of its kind.-STEEL-HYPER-TWISTER

05-06-2001, 02:16 PM
i agree GEMINI is SOOOOOOO AMAZINGLY fun. The first drop in the back row is WONDERFUL! when i went to CP last year i went on that at least 10times! SLIPKNOT HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT MAGNUM IS BORING?!?!?!? YOU SHOULD BE KILLED!

Jonathan Gelert
05-06-2001, 02:55 PM
I would say Riddler's Revenge @ SFMM is under-rated as well. People say it's boring because it goes too slow through the inversions. To that, I say, that's its novelty (can't think of a better word). The hangtime through the inversions is just amazing. And it's on a stand-up!

05-06-2001, 03:01 PM
even though alot of people talk about it online, nobody ever says anything about dueling dragons. it wasn't mentioned for a second on the backstage at universal orlando special.

05-06-2001, 03:28 PM
Cast another vote for Gemini.
It's awesome, and there's almost always a short line.

Drachen Fire and The Big Bad Wolf are underrated...People hear the word PAIN..they run from Drachen Fire...When they hear the word SHORT, they pass over The Big Bad Wolf..i think its an insult to both coasters ,which are really great coasters

Texas Cyclone at SFAW! This ride is sooooo Underrated it's not even funny! The new trains make it 100% better! I think its the best woodie in the world and it's my #1 coaster! Also Texas Tornado! Everyone is bragging about how GOLIATH has the most G's but it doesnt! Texas Tornado does, It pulls an amazing 6.5 G's! No Joke!

I really thought that the Big Bad Wolf sucked. The only decent arrow suspended ive been on was Iron Dragon, even that was all that great. but the most underrated coaster is GEMINI. that coaster is just SO MUCH FUN!

05-06-2001, 05:29 PM
Yea Conner, I agree.

Boulder Dash, Lake Compounce. A really fun ride, but at a park that doesn't get a lot of attention.
I also liked Gemini at CP, but didn't ride it enough to get a good feel for it.

I agree with OrlandoCoaster that the Lightning Racer is one of the most underated coasters. It is a work of art, and a great ride.

05-06-2001, 10:58 PM
Ragingbull05 I beg to differ. Goliath at SFMM is a steel hyper twister also!!!
Gemini is great and so is FoF before the OTSR's were removed!!! It is probably even better now!

05-06-2001, 11:13 PM
I think the most underrated coaster is The Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. That ride is so much fun...But because Paramount's Great America is 1/2 hour away, peeps like TopGun more than Giant Dipper. Still I like it.

05-06-2001, 11:23 PM
Belmont parks
Giant Dipper...
That is one of my favorite wooden coasters in the world!! Still thrills me today!

05-06-2001, 11:31 PM
Riddler's Revenge is one of the best coasters and is trashed by so many people. It's been the tallest stand up for something like five years! That's way longer than most other height record holders who fade in and out. (Alpengeist being the most recent eception)

05-07-2001, 02:57 AM
I think th Screamin' Eagle at SFStL is. it's the last coaster John Allen designed and in my opinion the best. but it is never mentioned anywhere except in StL

05-07-2001, 09:23 AM
I can only speak on the ones that I have ridden. That being said...
1) Comet (Hersheypark). It could be sentimental value, I don't know. But this Herb Schmeck classic is oft over looked in the shadows of the Wildcat and Lightning Racer (both great coasters in their own right). Perhaps the Comet is not the biggest, or fastest, or even most "thrilling", but it is still a great, fun coaster to ride.
2) The Great Bear (Hersheypark). Not only is this coaster underrated, it is often maligned (earning in some quarters the nick name "The Great Bore"). Again, like Comet, it may not be the biggest, or fasters, or most intense, but there is something graceful about this coaster. Its only real flaw is that it is short, but other than that this is a great ride. Every one talks how "brilliant" Dueling Dragons is, the way Fire and Ice are intertwined. Great Bear is brilliant in the way it winds its way from its station on top of the hill in Mine Town and then roars through Comet Hollow, twisting and turning around the tracks of the sooperdooperlooper.
3) Skyliner (Lakemont Park): Okay, its a smaller coaster, only around 60feet high and around 2600 feet or so long, but for its size it never lets up! The Air time on the first hill is insane. Unless you are a total daredevil, in the back seat I would say lock your feet under the seat in front of you and hold on to the bar, because if you don't, you will swear you are going to make it to the top of the next hill before the train does! Rode this one 7 times last May, a day after a visit to Kennywood. Given a choice, I would take Skyliner any day over the classics that call Kennywood home.

05-07-2001, 09:59 AM
MAMBA, which I hear is more intense than Steel Force. Just because it's not on the East coast it is never talked about.

I don't know if it's underrated, I just think no one has ridden it, Hercules,a wooden
coaster by custom coasters in Wisconsin Dells. That thing whoups ass through the woods at 65 mph. They also have this crazy one called Cyclops, (a Custom Coaster also)
that has this insane drop and an intense right banked turn at the bottom. The both are incredible.

05-08-2001, 05:32 AM
I see some people agree with me, Grizzly at PKD very underrated but lots of fun. Back car is the BEST!!!! And thank you coastermike for speaking out for the Drachenfire

05-08-2001, 09:06 AM
Most underrated coasters...
First one.. don't laugh... Blue Streak at CP. Yes it's small, and old, and sits in the shadow of most of the 'good' coasters. But for being that old, and that small... it packs quite a lot of fun into the ride.
The other underrated would have to be Raging Bull... sitting in the front seat of that machine was a BLAST. You feel like you are just flying free... I would LOVE to see a few looping coasters start to have that type of seat... imagine the intensity of doing a few loops, with your shoulders free..

SROS at SFNE, its the best coaster out there and practicially ignored

Eden the Coaster King
05-08-2001, 11:15 AM
I think the most underatted rollercoaster is the space mountain @ euro disney its excellent but dosn't get a mention.

05-08-2001, 11:18 AM
I would have to say Tremors at Silverwood, no competition. I have ridden coasters all over this country and still put Tremors in my top 5. The main reason it's so underrated is because it's in a place most people won't ever get to visit (let alone even know where it is!) and so it goes relatively unnoticed. But it is fast, long, and the underground tunnels are the smallest and scariest I've ever seen! No hands up on this thing!

05-08-2001, 12:16 PM
Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure is also underrated, even though it screeches louder that the Number 2 train.

may the FORCE be with you
05-08-2001, 09:31 PM
I agree with everyone about PKD Grizzly. But I'm worried Hypersonic XLC ruined it, because what made it so classic was its setting, rising above the trees and then twisting around thru them. Also I believe the most underrated coaster ever is Volcano: The Blast Coaster. That ride is right behind the other intamin monster in my opinion. Nobody ever talks about it. Another underrated old woodie is Kenneywood's Thunderbolt, which is so much fun but yet unique for its type. And I almost forgot Exterminator, which even I'll admit I thought was the worst ride idea ever, but then I rode it and fell in love with it!

[ This Message was edited by: may the FORCE be with you on 2001-05-08 21:41 ]

Yet another vote cast for CP's Gemini. It is just fun with a great smooth ride. Not to mention, it was the Point's first record breaker.

05-11-2001, 02:08 PM
Blue Streak,Gemini at CP
Batman Knight Flight,Villain at SFWoA
Chang at SFKK
Raging Bull at Great America
Racer and Jackrabbit at Kennywood-These are two great coasters that are a lot of fun to ride and prove that a ride doesn't have to be big to be fun.

Rock N' Rollercoaster! you barely hear it mentioned with launched coaster. you only here about Hypersonic XLC, which is super short and Hulk, which may be great but they have to give their neighbor some recognition

05-21-2001, 04:58 PM
I would have to say Thunder Run at SFKK. This thing has awesome airtime, esp. on the first three bunny hops after the hill. It also has a few spots of some decent laterals.

05-21-2001, 05:02 PM
On this site it seems to me Raging Bull is the most underrated. But on other sites and in my life I have noticed Viper at SFGAm is pretty underrated. One of the best woodies I'd say.

05-21-2001, 05:29 PM
Space Mountain. I'm always surprised by how both fun and scary it is, more so than I remember. It really is a good ride.

05-21-2001, 05:50 PM
I really like Mr. Freeze as a launched. Lots of others get more attention though.

05-21-2001, 06:07 PM
I have to agree that Texas Cyclone is a highly underrated woodie. Probably the second best in Texas (sorry, Texas Giant blows it out of the water!) However, it was a great ride, even with the "coffin cars". Also, I think Mindbender in the West Edmonton Mall is very underrated. I know not many people have been on it, so that's why it's not talked about, but it also pulls 6.5 g's. It is an extremely insane ride!

I went to the Santa Monica Pier this weekend and went on Westcoaster. For being 50 feet tall and a kiddie coaster it wasn't half bad. It had some great airtime after the first helix in the back car.

05-21-2001, 11:05 PM

05-21-2001, 11:14 PM
The Viper woodie at Six Flags Great America. This coaster is really surprising, after getting drowned out by the noise of Batman and Raging Bull (literally). A truly great ride that came out of no where.
Boulder Dash at Lake Compounse and Gemini.

Batman the Ride! It is often mocked for how short it is but it is the most intense inverted ever!

05-23-2001, 11:49 AM
I think Hershey Park's The Wildcat is underrated.

05-23-2001, 12:08 PM
I think Space Mountain at Euro Disney.

Lone Wolf
05-23-2001, 01:28 PM
I agree with GhostRider (the person not the coaster). Tremors is IMHO the best wooden coaster in the world. It has an awesome first drop and continues on through an insane series of twists, turns, and tunnels; ups, downs, and all arounds. If this coaster were in California, Ohio, or Pennsylvania, there wouldn't even be a debate about it.

05-23-2001, 01:48 PM

...or perhaps Unrated ride. The Nor'Easter at one of the piers in Wildwood, NJ is the only suspended coaster that I enjoy. Maybe because there aren't other good coasters there to compare it to, but I have a great time on it. It's extremely tight, and you get a great mist from the ocean, great view and atmosphere.
At a real amusement park, I skip the suspended coasters. But at Wildwood, the Great Nor'Easter gets my vote as the underrated coaster.

Rolling thunder

I have a question about the thread... Are we talking about coasters that get no exposure or coasters that are better than their reputation? I ask because the answer is different depending on what we're discussing. Oh well, I'll just list them both:
Too Little Exposure: Rampage, VL
Underrated: Scorcher, SFoG

I got a very good one Talon at Dorney Park. It is a wonderful ride and it just opened this year and no one seems to be talking about it at all.

07-25-2001, 02:37 AM
Grizzly is great, largely due to the theming around it, but I think the ride itself deserves credit as well. Lots of roughness without pain.

Volcano, while I liked it, was disappointing. I don't think there's any way it can compare with Alpengeist or Montu.

I think the most underrated coaster would have to be Nitro because I never see stuff about it on TV. The coaster is really awesome! It's my #1 coaster this year! About Mamba, what's the roller coaster like? Is it like any other Morgan coaster (they all seem alike only because they are mostly out-and-back hypers)? It must be an awesome ride. I want to go to Worlds of Fun one day and ride it. Nitro is SOOO the bomb!

07-25-2001, 02:25 PM
Thats because you don't live close enough to the park If you lived in New York and New Jersey you would be sick of hearing about Nitro. I see the commercial for it about 10 times a day no lie!!!

FLASHBACK at Six Flags Magic Mountain

You guys make it sound like this is the worst coaster in the world. If you know how to ride it, it is a good coaster, definitely not a top ten ride, but still a good coaster.

07-25-2001, 10:34 PM
Superman Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England. If u rode the Superman Ride of Steel coasters at the other parks and not at SFNE it is sooo much different. It is a great ride!!1

07-25-2001, 10:55 PM
The Mindbender in 6FoG. In my opinion, it's the best Schwartz on the planet! If the first drop turned straight into the canal, it would be a hyper. And I love the so-called "Third Loop" helix every time.

07-26-2001, 01:18 AM
I would have to say that the most underrated coaster by a long shot would be Tremors at Silverwood. I've ridden coasters in California, Utah and Nevada, and Tremors is definitely up there with some of the best. It is definitely in my top five list. Anyone who has ridden it would most probably agree with me on this one.

BKF at SFWOA and Iron Dragon at CP

Gladiator's Gauntlet
07-26-2001, 08:43 PM
Wood: Wildcat at Hersheypark and Twister at Knoebels Grove
Steel: Kumba at BGT and Talon at Dorney

07-26-2001, 08:53 PM
lightning racer, great bear, montu, beast,Mantis(i just love that ride for some reason!)

07-28-2001, 12:06 PM

07-28-2001, 01:19 PM
Duh. Even though it has a bad layout has an out and back coaster, KRAKEN is so underrated. I loved the underground dives!! And it's the only floorless coaster w/ 2 vertical loops.:)

07-28-2001, 01:34 PM
California Screamin' is a great ride but since people think it is disney it sux but it is a fun ride which includes nice sized drops, nice helixes(not intense but fun), launched beginning, onboard soundtrack, and a cool loop

07-28-2001, 01:40 PM
MAMBA is the most underrated coaster ever. Just b/c ppl are to lazy to come out to the middle of nowhere to ride it. It's better then Magnum ( surprise ), Wild thing and Steel force easily. It has awesome head choppers!:D

07-28-2001, 01:47 PM
Mamba, Kumba, Jack Rabbit(Kennywood), Kennywood Racer, Phantom's Revenge, Boulder Dash, the list could go on for a long time

07-31-2001, 05:18 PM
More and more coasters are being built. Some which are great and some which are bad. Some great coasters are built in parks that just are well known and will be forgotten soon because of the park. SROS of Six Flags New England is 1 of the best coasters in the world, but isn't as known as most other coasters that are in well known parks like magnum and mf of cedar point. Which coaster do you think is extreamly underated because of the park it is in or because it just is.

07-31-2001, 05:50 PM
The Swamp Fox at Mytle Beach. At Family Kingdom.

Rolling Thunder @ six flags great adventure

Out of all the coasters I've ridden, I would say the most underrated coaster is Screamin' Eagle at Six Flags St. Louis. It was the first coaster I rode (back in 1980). I rode it earlier this summer, and it still delivers. The only problem is that it is in dire need of a paint job.

10-16-2001, 07:23 PM
I would say that there are several coasters that do not get enough attention.
Wild Thing@Valleyfair. It is a great coaster but nobody ever talks about it because it is located in a park that rarely gets noticed.
Mamba@Worlds of Fun. In my opinion it is the best out the three Morgan out-and-back hypers but it does not get talked about very much by the coaster community.
Grizzly@PKD. This great woodie is often ignored because it is in a park with tons of great steel coasters.
Wildfire@Silver Dollar City. Another great ride that resides in an out-of-the-way park.
TopGun: The Jet Coaster@Carowinds. An awesome inverted coaster that resides in a park with no other headline attractions and one that is usually overshadowed by its sister parks PKD and PKI.
Viper@SFMM: Not alot of people seem to like this ride, but I love it.
Chang@SFKK: This is an awesome standup coaster but it never really gets any attention because it is at a mediocre park.

10-16-2001, 08:15 PM
anaconda at PKD. I thought it was great while other people are saying things like MF and others as their favorite. But anaconda was definately one of my many favorites.

i think Iron Wolf. everybody talks about what a bad ride it is but i actually like it. it isn't that rough and it has some pretty good turns. i like the drop too

10-17-2001, 02:01 PM
I would say Magnum Force at Flamingoland in the UK. Really good Schwarzkopf ride (formerly Dreier Looping and more recently Mach 3).

10-17-2001, 08:49 PM
Deja Vu. everyone was expecting it to be a waste of all the wait form the problems, but it was amazing

Thunder Run at SFKK is quite possibly one of the most underrated coasters in the country.

10-17-2001, 09:13 PM
The Mighty Canadian Minebuster at Canada's Wonderland.

How many other wooden coasters intertwine with the waterpark?

It has some mad air, especially in the back.
If you hit it in the last half hour of the day at the park (usually between 9:30 and 10) it will be completely empty, you can stay on without getting up, and get some insane night rides.

10-17-2001, 09:43 PM
big bad wolf at bgw and thunderhawk at dorney

12-20-2001, 09:55 PM
Definitly Disaster Transport, no one seems to enjoy the classic themeing and instead is just based all around the themeing.

12-21-2001, 09:19 AM
Roar - SFA
Thunderhawk - Dorney
Silver Comet - Martin's Fantasy Island
Comet - Hershey Park (lose those trim brakes and you have an incredible ride)

12-21-2001, 11:04 AM
most coaster in new england r great but most peopledont know they are there allpeoplegoto is sfne

12-21-2001, 01:08 PM
California Screamin'

It's smooth and packs a punch, but nobody expects it because it's Disney.

12-22-2001, 03:19 AM
With it constantly dropping farther and farther off the charts, I'd say The Beast is beginning to fall into the "under rated" category. Yeah, I know it still has tons of fans, but it seems like everybody just forgot about it recently.

Woohooooooooo!!!!!! I'm a GIGA MF baby!!! Almost exactly six months after I signed up, too. Weird. Lol, I just replied to 12 polls so I could get to a giga. BUT, NONE of them were spam! So you can't yell at me! :D

12-22-2001, 08:38 AM
I'd say that it was Batman Knight Flight, no one everygives it any kind of credit! It is never recognized as a good coaster, why? Is it because it has less inversions than Medusa or Kraken? It holds the record as the longest, tallest, and I believe the fastest (please don't flame me if I am wrong) floorless rollercoaster. It just doesn't make any sense.

definitely, that ride is awesome, and I NEVER hear anything about it. to me it's very similar to Montu, but beats it.

01-07-2002, 03:54 PM
Roar at SFA
Gemini at Cedar Point
Grizzly at PKD
Big Dipper at SFWOA
Lightning Racer at Hersheypark
Pheonix at Knoebels (yes it gets a lot of credit, but this ride is so awesome and has the wildest airtime of any coaster I've ridden)

probably because it isnt that tall and everyone automatically dismisses it

Disaster Transport or Batman Knight Flight.

01-07-2002, 07:45 PM
seems everyone underates steelforce and actually this is a really great ride considering this was one of the first to start the hyper coaster,it has great speed a very intence helix, and plenty of airtime. people need to stop comparing coasters against one another and start appreciating each coaster as it's own.

01-07-2002, 09:40 PM
i think its the Swamp Fox. top 5 woodie in my book

01-07-2002, 09:50 PM
Wildcat at Lake Compounce....... not a big woodie but sure nasty.......

07-17-2002, 09:54 AM
I think Rolling Thuder is way underrated. People r always calling it rotting thunder, but it really is a good ride.

Also, The Loch Ness Monster is a classic, classic, ride. It has the worlds first interloking loops, and it is a classic looper. Wow i say clasic alot. I never hear about it on the boards and i like it a lot, though.

07-17-2002, 10:33 AM
I would say Viper at SFGAm, Villian and BKF at SFWOA, Zeus and Cyclops at Big Chief in Wisconsin Dells.

07-18-2002, 02:40 PM
I am going to give an answer for each park I've been to:

Busch Gardens - Big Bad Wolf (the drop toward the river & the ride through the village were great)

Six Flags America - The Wild One (one of the best out & backs in the country, the final helix is excellent, it is a classic)

Hersheypark - the Wildcat (this is my number one woodie, it's medium sized but packs some great lateral g's and some airtime)

Kings Dominion - the Hurler (excellent airtime)

Cedar Point - Gemini (its a racer, and it has a nice layout)

Islands of Adventure - none

Magic Kingdom - none

07-18-2002, 02:40 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot the Joker's Jinx at Six Flags America. I love Premier Spaghetti Bowls.

For Me its-
Medusa (west)
Riddler's Revenge
Apollos Charriot

07-21-2002, 02:06 PM
Loch Ness Monster, Speed, Ninja(SFMM), Racer(PKI), Thunder Run, and Chang are all under-rated.

I didn't think BBW was that great. The 1st half was cool, but the drop over the river is over-rated. I liked Ninja better.
Viper @ SFMM is just painful. I rode it several times in the back and front and had a lot of headbanging.

Well after recently going to SFKK, I'd have to say thunder run has to be the most underrated coaster out there. The ride was fun, smooth, had laterals, and tons of airtime. It was awesome and is probably my number one wooden coaster. Another ride that I think is underrated is the green one of Twisted Twins. You get a huge amount of airtime on all of the drops in the back and lots of laterals. I think both of those rides deserve a little more credit than what they get.

07-21-2002, 05:36 PM
Iron Dragon at Cedar Point is so fin and the line was so small if any and ut was a cool coaster and got like 10 times better at night :)

07-24-2002, 12:36 PM
At CP-Gemini, Wildcat and Iron Dragon
At PKD-Rebel Yell, Hurler and Avelanch (Please excuse spelling errors)
At Herchey-Comit, Great Bear, Wild Mouse and SooperDooperLooper.
AT SFA-Wild One and S:ROS
AT MA-Shivering Timbers
AT SFGAmerica-Wizzer and Viper

All the coasters that I think are the most underated are all coincidentally at SFGAm:

Iron Wolf- This ride is probably the most underated roller coaster (in my opinion). It is extremely intense and packs one hell of a punch. I have been fortunate enough to be able to ride both Chang and Mantis and I personally find this ride to be better than both

Viper- This ride does make it on to quite a few peoples top ten list, but I just don't think that it is given enough credit. It is truly a phenomenal ride with incredible lateral and negative g's

Shockwave- This gives a little rougher ride but if you know where to sit, this will take you on a journey you are not soon to forget (very back seat).

Batman The Ride- Sometimes I think that because this ride is cloned so much that people forget how truly great it is. Again, a very intense ride with a great punch

I know I just went off and named a third of SFGAm's roller coaster population, but I really do think that these are some truly underated coasters. And yes, I have been to other parks besides SFGAm and no I'm not a SFGAm fanboy. lol. I just think these are very underated.

01-25-2003, 06:55 PM

for me, there are two kinds of underrated. one of them is people talk about it a lot but just dont say good things. that would go to x-flight. i thought x-flight was an amazing coaster and is in my #2 spot(but could get knocked out after i ride s:uf this year). the other underrated is a coaster that just nobody talks about. for that i say skull mountain. if you get a seat in the back of the train, the first hill is awesome. then the rest of it being in the dark is really fun.

Metalhead 777
01-26-2003, 02:56 PM
Racer at PKI. Very fast paced for it's size, and it has some seriously great air-time, but no one ever talks about it. It doesn't get nearly the recognition that it deserves. It is one heck of a great ride.

01-30-2003, 09:17 PM
Ok, i have to agree with gravitron. Swamp Fox is THE BEST wooden coaster ever made! It is a small family coaster situated at a small overlooked Myrtle Beach amusement park called "Family Kingdom". This park is clearly overlooked in part by it's name. It is also overlooked because they have not had a new coaster in years. But Swamp Fox beats out all woodies ever! This little coaster sure packs a punch. It takes up a small footprint in the park, yet has some of the best airtime you have ever experienced! It is a coaster worth the short wait!

And everybody that said Top Gun at PC. GREAT coaster! Also, "Hurricane: Category 5" at Myrtle Beach Pavilion is a great coaster! At SFOG: Ninja, Georgia Cyclone, Georgia Scorcher, Mindbender, Batman: the Ride. At Carowinds: Top Gun, Goldrusher (it's just fun), Flying Super Saturator, Hurler, Thunder Road. BGW: Big Bad Wolf. Disney: Space Mountain, Rock n' Roller Coaster, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

01-30-2003, 11:08 PM
I think the most underated coasters are GA Scorcher, GA Cyclone, and DL's Space Mountain. I haven't ridden WDW's Space Mountain, but when I walked on Space Mountain I was expecting a dark version of BTMR. The first time I rode it, I could not smiling from awe and sheer exhileration for about 5 minutes afterwards. I went on to ride it three more times that day, which is quite a feat for it being New Years Eve, one of, if not the, most crowded days of the year.

01-31-2003, 12:46 AM
Viper @ SFGAm- one of the best (and most comfortable) air-time machines out there

Wildcat @ CP- I want one of these for my back yard...how much and where???

Kraken- yeah I know its on a few peoples top 10 lists but frankly it doesn't get the credit it deserves (at least on message boards)

02-01-2003, 03:04 PM
Viper at SFGAm is amazing..it's my second favorite wooden coaster behind Cornball Express

Space Mountain ( the WDW) Version was the first true coaster I rode and I still love it.

02-19-2003, 07:58 PM
I think the most underated coaster is the GASM at SFOG.

02-21-2003, 12:00 AM
i think cyclone at sfne. its more freaky than you think because its lapbars dont always feel right.

Carowinds 73-03
07-18-2003, 05:21 PM
Top Gun: The Jet Coaster @ Carowinds. It's a world class coaster no matter what anyone else thinks.

07-18-2003, 10:34 PM
Mamba, Timberwolf, and Orient Express. WOF itself is underrated.

07-18-2003, 10:35 PM
Wildfire at SDC.

07-19-2003, 08:03 AM
cyclone at dreamworld

RCT loser
07-19-2003, 12:13 PM
Texas Cyclone- I know it's been mentioned before, but now without the coffins, even more than ever, it's underrated.
Timberwolf- My personal #2 coaster, and it's nearly untalked about.

Steel-Shockwave @SFOT. Insane air, awesome G's, great ride.

07-19-2003, 12:30 PM
The Riddler's Revenge at SFMM (Six Flags Magic Mountain) It is so smooth and fun, it already has alot attention but i think it could use more. The next 3 coaster are Honarable Mentions That need mor atention

Viper @ SFMM
Revolution @ SFMM
Pshyclone @ SFMM

07-19-2003, 01:56 PM
Disaster Transport
Georgia Cyclone

07-19-2003, 06:16 PM
Id say Chang people are always saying Mantis is better which its not its old news and dont even bother to look or notice chang.

07-19-2003, 07:14 PM
Id say DT at CP too...I had a blast on the ride....but all the rides I like (mean streak, DT, SLCs) arent too popular on these boards....
