I was just wandering what you thought of Paramount`s Kings Island. Does anyone have the slightest clue at what they`re building for their big 30th Birthday?

PKI is my least favorite park. When my favorite ride in the park is a mine train[1], you know something is wrong! My main beef is that their coasters are often 'tamed', and many wern't that great to begin with.

If PKI is your least favorite park then you've obviously only been to CP, IOA, SSMM, DL, and WDW because those are the only parks better! PKI combines the best of all 5 Paramount parks. It has really good theming for a Paramount park too. You haven't lived until you've ridden the Beast!

No, I just happen to prefer *SMALLER* parks which actually know the meaning of the word 'customer service'

Okay, I agree with you on that one. Thier service is horrible!!!!!
* - QUALITY Wooden Coasters (PKIs are not)
* - Lousy steel (King Cobra, Vortex, etc)
* - Slow operations
* - Bad crowds (The crowds at PKI are just OBSCENE, both in number and in behavior)
* - Overpricing ($10 for a burger, fires and drink!?!?!?)

For reference, here are my favorite and least favorite parks.

How can you say that PKD is better than PKI? IMO, PKD doesn`t have any good wood coasters. All their wooden coasters are copies or clones. Rebel Yell of the Racer at PKI, Hurler has a twin at PC, and Grizzly is a copy of a Coney Island (Cincinnati) coaster. Even Scooby Doo is a copy of the Beastie at PKI. At PKD there isn`t an easy way to get from the Volcan to Rebel Yell as they have their Water Park sandwiched in between Anaconda (Vortex is better IMO) and Rebel Yell. PKI`s employees are nice and the crowds are not rude. However, their customer service has something to be required as they didn`t know anything about an ACE poster!

Okay Tyler. First of all, how can you possibly say that the Beast is not quality? The Beast is the definiton of a quality coaster. SOB is an astonishing record breaker, and one **** of a fun ride. Second, honestly, how many lap bar loopers have you been on? Well PKI has one. Thrid, how can you love PKD and hate PKI?!?!?!?! They're almost identical! And if I would have to pick a better one it would have to be PKI. Oh yeah, I forgot, quality woodie? Did I hear someone say Racer? This baby revoultionized wooden rollercoaster!! How many times have you visited PKI? Let me guess, once. On a saturday in the middle of July. I think you should take another visit and think about what your saying here.

[ This Message was edited by: Erik Johnson on 2001-05-16 10:23 ]

I think that the Racer is the coaster that started the coaster boom that is still going today! Also, I`ve riden both the Racer and Rebel Yell in 2000 and they both have almost identical trains and lapbars. The only difference is that The Racer is a little bit longer and doesn`t have a tunnel like rebel Yell (which is really neat and I wish PKI`s Racer had a tunnel). Secondly PKI has two loopers with lap bars, Son of Beast and Flight of Fear. Another point is that PKI has better kiddie coasters and better themed kiddie areas and is more a family park than PKD. Also, PKI`s water park is not built around other rides (except for the train) like PKD`s!

The Racer didn't start the coaster boom. John Allen had been building coasters throughout the '60s.

As for kiddie areas, I could care less.

CoastersRZ rules!!!!! Its funny how Tyler never answered my question about how many times he's actually visited PKI

The Beast

And CoastersRZ makes a good point. How many parks have you been to with 2 of your beloved lap bar loopers? And you don't find the Beast thrilling!?!? What can you possibly find thrilling at Knobel's? Oh yeah and name one significant difference between PKI and PKD, besides the fact that PKI has a better water park, a huge drop ride, and better theming?

Tyler Eaves

You are obviously not willing to reason. I do however have a few questions for you.

A: How many parks have you been to?

B: How close do you live to PKI?

I have been to about 22 parks(including Kennywood, Knobels,IOA, CP, BGW, and PKD) and I have ridden over 75 roller coasters. I live about 40 minutes from PKI.

I agree with Tyler in this! I feel the same way about those *&^%ing corporate parks! They LOVE to ruin the rides with HEAVY braking but I do think that PKI isn't really any better than Valleyfair whichis also run very poorly with tons of those *&^%ing trim brakes on ALL of their coasters EXCEPT the extremely tame Corkscrew coaster! Samller parks like Knoebels, Holiday World, Michigan's Adventures(pre Ceder (UN)Fair days), and Silverwood gave a *&^% about making your day enjoyable anf trying to keep their woodies as high of quality as possible but NO Cedar (UN)Fair has to tame thier woodies down and Wild Thing tamed down!!:-( WHY????? I hope Dick Knoebels and Will Koch will be way too stubbern to sell out to those corporate ****ers!!! At least Tyler and I are thinking along the same wavelength and yes I think SOB wasn't very fun either because it was a headache machine with its roughness!

Man, I'm surprised you are a mod on these boards - trashing a great park like PKI. Why don't you just go back to your Ultracoaster 3D site. I HATE being mean, but I am tired of hearing such drivel. If you people can't say something positive, keep your mouths shut!

I think PKI keeps getting better and better. Sure, they may take out little niceties like the bridge over the lake, and the covered walkway, but they really do strive to make it a TOP quality place to visit.

(Now, if we could just pull their teeth enough to get another steel coaster!!)

I LOVE PKI!!! I'm sorry, but how many parks have more coasters than PKI??? I know of..... CP (AWESOME!!) and SFMM. Maybe I'm WAY off here, but I don't know of any more parks with more!!! Oh well...

I've never been to PKD but I'd have to say the Racer is the one of the best woodies around simply because of its age! Seriously, this ride practically revolutionized the woodie, simply because of its sheer height (record), racing trains (first), forward and BACKWARD trains (first), Length (record), and fun factor. Not to mention it's sheer SYMMETRY!! Practically identical rides! The backward ride has a steeper first drop so you don't fall out of your seat. I know it's rough and so is the beast (haven't ridden SOB yet...) but few woodies aren't!!
Actually, not a single one of those records is correct.

It wasn't the tallest (88ft vs 95 for Comet at Crystal Beach (Now at Great Escape))
It wasn't the first racer, (Earliest at a park still existing, Racer @ KW, built in 1911 (*NOT* the current Racer)
It wasn't the longest. Cyclone Racer, Long Beach, 3,800ft of track per side, 7,600ft total, vs 6,830 for PKI's. It wasn't the first with backwards trains. That had been done MANY times, the earliest I've got pictures of is 1908.
