If you're a conservative and a coaster enthusiast speak up here. No liberal bashing! They can have their own thread. Maybe goups could get together this summer???

I don't think that coasters and politics should be mixed.

For the record I am conservative but I don't agree with mixing politics with coasters in the same post, but since this is the General Talks forum I do think its ok to talk politics, religion and disney vs. universal since those are some fun debates (though I haven't been a part of them for a while)

Nice spam there dingo.
Politics really doesn't have much to do with coasters, and in fact coasters can be a unifying thing between different views (as it is for me and several of my friends).

I won't say what my orientation is, though you can probably guess it if you've read other posts that I've made. But the important thing isn't being liberal or conservative, but knowing why you believe what you do. If you don't know the reasons and facts behind what you believe, then you really don't know what you believe and haven't thought about it.
That is so true SirWillow. While my views match up much more with the conservative point of view, if a Democratic candidate that has similar views that I do runs for President (or any office for that matter) I would not let party ties keep me from voting for who I think would be best. BTW the website you posted in your sig about why you are leaving the country doesn't work, but from what I collected from many of your posts, you're leaving the country (to South America possibly?) to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, and I applaud you (if that is what you're doing, watch me be totally wrong LOL).
And you're pretty close to being right on, though my wife and I will be teachers at a school in Bogota for the children of those who are there from other countries that are there to help the Colombians. (Did that run on sentence make sense?)

Well Halation, our country doesn't need political reform, a democracy/republic type of goverment IMO is the best type. I'd rather vote honestly and for whoever I want than have 2 choices but be forced by a man with a gun behind my back to force me (and everyone else) to vote for the party that's already in power, and if the Progressive Party (as in both of those words, not just progressive) is bent on Socialism then there's no way I'm supporting them. Thats why I'm a conservative.

Halation

So Serpent Boy, you say I'm voting for dishonesty? Your not even old enough TO vote!! Seems the problem is who we trust or don't trust. I for one don't trust Bush. I didn't trust his Dad and I didn't trust Reagan.

Obviously I believe we DO need political reform, and unlike you, I believe most conservatives do too. The problem, in my eyes, is that they want to go BACKWARD. To the 50's or whatever, when the world was all whitebread and permenantly pressed. Well guess what? We CAN'T go back. We can only go forward. And you dinosaurs will die of sometime soon, if you don't take the rest of us with. But believe me WE WILL put up a fight.
Wow is that insulting!

Let's see, how about missionaries who operate drug rehab centers, schools, job training centers, children's homes, and rescue abandoned kids off the streets because we feel it's our duty to help other people. That's the work that I'm involved in.

Oh, realize to that that much of our education system and hospital system was built on the work of missionaries and churches througout the country, along with the homeless shelters, food banks, etc. Do you realize how much of that wouldn't exist in any effective way without Christians?

A note to Halation...
You should be thankful that you live in this republic of ours rather than one of your socialist "utopias". At least here you have the right to disgree with the government and society that you so obviously scorn. The very same system that you rant against is the very same system that allows you to speak out against it with out throwing you into some political prison or gulag in a frozen wasteland (or worse).

You know SNflake, the "socialist utopia" I spoke of, Sweden, they have just as many rights as we do here in the good-ol' U S A. And maybe even more. One of the tenents of "left-wing" thought is that the people don't need the government telling them what to do with their bodies or their minds, unlike the right-wing brotherhood, who want to control it.
Actually, most if not all European socialist countries allow just as much criticism of their government as ours does. And furthermore, their citizens more actively question and disagree with their government than we ever do.

One of the concerns I have w/ Socialist Countries, however, is their tendency to have a national religion. Though, ironically, there are more non-believers in those countires and religion's influence in governemnt is very low.

That said, my current view is that a tempered capitalism is the best solution for this country.

SLFAKE

Then I do stand corrected, VorTex.

The FAR Right is just as dangerous as the FAR Left... and such places where true right wing extremists are in control (NOT the DNC's version of Right Wing Extremist... which translates to "anyone who is not a Liberal Democrat") are some of the most oppressive governments on earth.

However... I will take good old American Capitalism any day over Socialism, and I will not apologize for expressing my beliefs / critism of socialist states.

[ This Message was edited by: SLFAKE on 2001-06-14 12:15 ]
Sweden is anything but a Eutopia. All the government does is tax the hell out of you to pay for social progress. Personnaly, if someone doesn't want to contribute to our economy, they can take a hike, I'm tired of paying for it! This is all the result of baby-boomer thought. This too shall pass. Eutopia.. Yeah right. Have some more crack. Heck, if democrats end up controlling everything, you'll get it for free at my expense! By the way, if you like it so much why don't you pack your crap and leave! Perhaps it's because you know it SUCKS!
