What's up everyone, i'm new here and don't know if anything like this has been posted before but what has been the scariest moment for u on a roller coaster. By that I don't mean scary as in thrill scary, but things like has ur lap belt or restraint suddenly come loose at the top of a lif hill or somethin' like that.
<BR>Peace Out!

I've read about many incidents where people have had their restrainst pop up during the duration of the ride on <!-- BBCode Start --><B>Dr. Doom's Fear Fall</B><!-- BBCode End --> @ Islands Of Adventure. Thank God for those extra belt things!<BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: kraxleRIDAH on 2001-05-25 01:42 ]</font>

The scariest moment for me was stalling at the top of a loop on a boomerang coaster and falling into my shoulder restraint. These don't have the connecting seatbelts like B&M's do. For me that was scary!!!

I once rode Space Mountain @ DL without putting the lapbar down. Talk about airtime. I thought I would fly out of the car!

05-25-2001, 05:34 AM
lets just say it aint nice hangin' on the edge of the vertical drop on oblivion, waiting for the breaks to release you. You have no idea when your gonna drop when the breaks are stuck, and its even worse when the breaks dont lock you and you just go straight over the edge without the usualy 4 second hold!

Although it isn't a coaster...
<BR>Once I was riding on Freefall at SFoG and it stopped at the very top and a ride attendant had to come get us out of the car. <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

I rode Dr Doom with the seatbelt open apart from that strap....
<BR>I was on a tour of the park with just me, my dad, and the guide.... he was telling us how once a friend of his who worked on the fearfall let him ride it with only the strap. i said that sounded real cool and he said we could try if i liked...
<BR>as we were on this tour thing we got to skip the queues, and as we were with this guy he justtold the rie operator to not check our belts....
<BR>it was awesome! i thought i was gonna fly out my seat at the top.... i lifted so far out of my seat.
<BR>I often on coasters purposely dont pull my harness down to as close as pssoible... i sit forward etc... when the guys check... just makes the ride better <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

I don't think B&M's need the seat belt. With all the wind blowing on you i don't know how any one can find that the shoulder harness is lose. I've never had to get stopped or nothing broke while i was on a coaster so the scaries moment to me is siting on Batman &Robin the chiller waiting for it too launch.

Georgia Cyclone, 1st through 4th drops.

05-25-2001, 12:29 PM
that feeling when you get into your seat and immediately adjust the belt, the bar, or whatever restraints there are, and they don't go down right away, and you freak "WHY ISN'T MINE WORKING???!!!!"...and you have to have your friend do it or the Operator!

05-25-2001, 01:51 PM
Luckily for me I haven't had any really scary experiences with roller coasters. Probably the scariest thing that has ever happened was watching Outer Limits get launched when I was about to ride it for the first time.

05-25-2001, 01:52 PM
I had the same feeling watching Superman The Escape getting launched up that hill. I was terrified... <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif">

05-25-2001, 02:08 PM
As Tyler said, the Georgia Cyclone's airtime hills while in the back seat are definitly scary.

When you're about to ride the first coaster of a new season. After 6 or 7 months off, you almost forget what its like.

05-25-2001, 09:00 PM
well the only thing not instituted by the ride that happened to me is that i can never get the seatbelts undone after i get off. my friend said that once his OTSR wasn't locked on GASM so he had to hold it down the whole time.
<BR>I think the scariest moment for me on a coaster was when the floor dropped on Medusa. It was my first inverting coaster and first coaster with 100+ foot drops. When the floor dropped, i knew their was no turning back

05-25-2001, 09:08 PM
Scariest moment was one time when i was on desperado my hat came loose without thinkin i lunged my body as hard as i could, i saved that hat which wasnt even loose. Ande i thought i slipped completewly out of my restraint and anyone who has been on that ride knows that those restraints are there for a reason.....

05-25-2001, 10:17 PM
on appollos chariot the guy in the car infront of me puked and i watched it float till it went over my head

05-25-2001, 10:20 PM
When i rode nitro today, my friend left his clam sheel restraint 5 notches above what it should have been. He almpost "flew out" on the second hill, first calmel back, and hammerhead, before he was able to pull his clamshell down to fit.

sitting on any of the right seats on Kumba. Fells you're gonna be thrown out and into the wall after the zero G roll.

05-26-2001, 06:39 AM
i'd have to say the double down at the back of the grand national...very scary stuff!it hurst on the male genitals so badly, but gives you such a kick!alos, i hate the airtime feeling, bye bye stomach!

05-26-2001, 08:54 AM
I would say wen i was on top gun at pcw and my bar wasnt down far ebnough i had to keep a white knuckle grip on the harness!! Im sure i wouldnt hav falle out but it sure as hell felt like it! <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif">

05-26-2001, 10:02 AM
i always get nervous when my stomach is facing the ground on Two Face at SFA. not that i don't enjoy it on flying coasters, mind you.

The first drop on Millenium Force was really scary in the front row.

My mother and i were in line for Gadget's Go Coaster three years ago. The ride was about to close, so we decided to try and fit into one of the seats together. Well, those acorn seats are very small, and the lapbar didn't go down. We went out the station, and as we went up the lift i was thinking, "Its just a kiddy coaster that is not even a thousand feet long. How bad could it be?" Well i didn't realize how bad it could be. There is a little helix at the very end where you are closely going over a pond. My mother was on the outside so i was closest to the pond. I could feel myself falling out and i yelled to my mother. She grabbed me in the nick of time, but my hair still get wet. It took me a long time to get over that phobia.

The Cyclone at SFNE's first drop had to be the most terrifing thing I've ever expierienced on a coaster. The drop starts of shallow so the train can gain speed. Then it dives to a 65 degree angle very quickly, and if your sitting in the very back seat, you get lauched into the lap bar. You then bank into a very tight upward turn that pulls multiple G's. It is a white knuckle ride!

06-15-2001, 08:35 PM
When you have never been on a coaster never seen a picture of it and do not know what to expect.

06-15-2001, 08:36 PM
To me, its standing in line thinking about what your in for. Once Im on it, the ride just flies by and its not scary. Exept Oblivion. Those holding breaks are terrifying!!!!!!!!

06-15-2001, 08:52 PM
Back in the day every coaster used to terrify me.
<BR>But now a few instances stick out.
<BR>I was riding GA Cyclone last year and I sat in the back row for the first time. I knew nothing of the "airtime" back there. Needless to say, I was a little shocked when I was thrown so far out the seat that I was able to switch to the empty seat next to me.
<BR>Another instance that comes to my mind was when I rode BKF in the front seat. I reached the top of the lift and my horse collar popped open. Now, I've heard a floorless is supposed to give the effect of riding in an easy chair, but that was ridiculous.

The first time riding the Demon Drop at Cedar Point. It was my senior class trip and my very first trip to Cedar Point. It was also the first time I rode anything like the Demon Drop. To this day these type of rides still scare the hell out of me, but they are so cool!!! even the Drop Zone or Power Tower can't compare to the relentless rattling and roughness of these things. I get chills everytime I ride them, especially the ones where you are standing up, and you are thrown back with so much force when it curves at the bottom and you are lying flat on your back.
<BR>Anyway, I rode the Demon Drop at Cedar Point for the first time, later that day I wanted to ride it again but I noticed it was closed and the car at the top was "wedged" or stuck near the top. I could only imagine being one of those people who were stuck at the top!!!
<BR>Any of those travelling carnival rides always scare the hell out of me, due to the fact that they not in the best shape and are constantly being torn down and re-assembled day after day......
<BR>Oh, I'm sorry, scariest moment on a coaster? The first time I rode The Beast as a kid.......damn I thought that first drop would never end....
<BR>The scariest where I was actually scared for my life was when I visited Camden Park last year for the first time in about 16 years! We got on the Big Dipper, I was already scared as I saw grass while looking at the floor of the coaster! There were so many holes in the rotting wood I was almost afraid to put too much pressure on it with my feet. Do you know how most parks test their coasters hours before opening? They usually try several dozens runs before they allow any living creature on them.
<BR>With the Big Dipper, the first load IS the test run. I realized this when I got on the coaster and heard the coaster engines being "turned on" and not all of the lapbars seemed to lock right!

<BR>lol i totally agree that always happens to me on Medusa. it just doesn't lock right away and i get super freaked out. also, once on Runaway Train, well ya know how its like the two rows of 2 in each car and the restraints for each car are controlled by a little pedal on each car well the guy behind us was overweight so they had to do something different and our lap bars never got put down then they were about to give the all clear sign and the realized they forgot about us lol

06-16-2001, 01:18 AM
tim i almost did the exact same thing!
<BR>i don't know what happened, but i didn't put the lapbar down all the way
<BR>that guy behind the window before you turn kept yelling at me, "please put your hands on the bar" but i guess they didn't know what happened or something
<BR>and i was hanging on to the lap bar for dear life the whole ride
<BR>aaahh fuun though <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: Wackokid on 2001-06-16 01:30 ]</font>

My scariest moment was when I rode the Wolverine Wildcat at Mich Adv in Muskegon back in 1995, before they put in new trains from Philadelphia Toboggan. All they had were a single lap bar. There was only the lap bar (and it was very loose), and the walls of the car were wiggling. On one of the drops, I nearly left my seat, and probably would've dropped 30 feet. Thank goodness I had a tight grip on something. I've since rode it again, only after the put the new trains in (single lap bar per person plus seat belt), and it was much better.

08-15-2001, 12:07 PM
I would like to hear bout everybody's scariest experience on a coaster. I remember mine was on Kumba at BGT when the train started to go and my harness wasnt locked. Right after the train i was in left the station ( and after I nearly crapped my pants!) the harness locked and everything was cool.

08-15-2001, 12:24 PM
I think the one that tops all (it didn't happen to me) but one coaster (i forget which and where) got stuck during a loop!! THAT would suk.. also your experience is pretty bad! Another one a train got stuck on top of Millennium Force! I read that on this board before.. they could dfeel the swaying. I also saw a news repot of Goliath ot Titan got stuck at the topp of the first hill as it was peering over the edge! I would hate to be in the front! But what would REALLY suk (doubt it happened) is if HypersonicXLC stalled at the top! Good topic!

The one that was stuck in a loop was Demon at SFGAm. One of the back wheels came off and the train couldn't roll any more. I don't have any bad expiriences of my own yet.

08-15-2001, 12:47 PM
Yeah, the demon thing would have really benn bad. Talk about bad publicity for sfgam. But still, it's benn 10 years since, and I think that everyones moved on. But still, I dont ride demon anymore :) (just kdding.)

08-15-2001, 01:34 PM
Demon thing would've been scary to be on it when it got stuck. I really don't think I have had a scary expierience except when the lapbar on Viper wouldn't go down anymore and I could easily slip out, luckily I didn't.

08-15-2001, 01:39 PM
It didn't happen to me but my friend's OSTR came unlocked while he was on the brake on at SFMM's Viper. All he could do was hold on tight until it locked again a few seconds later. That would have freaked me out.

08-15-2001, 02:18 PM
Did the demon thing happen ten years ago? I didnt know it was that long, I thought like 5 yrs ago. Anywho, while i was on shockwave, it got stuck at the top and they had to shut down the whole coaster because my friends in the car after us, while they were leaving the station all their harnesses flew up so they had to shut the coaster down. It was fun being stuck but i would have freaked of our harnesses had flown up like they did on my friends.

08-15-2001, 02:57 PM
When I got on Batman at SFOG, I locked the thing really tight, like it has to, and then we started to go up. On the middle of the hill the thing came up one click and I was like "No, please don't come up all the way..." It didn't and I just clicked it back to where it was.
On Mindbender the lapbars wouldn't stay down, and the train was about to go, and I was thinking that the ride op was gonna let the train go with the lapbars up, and i was about to chicken out when he activated the lapbars or whatever.
And of course, the classic moment...when I almost fell out of the train on Batman.

Wow what an original topic! Too bad i already posted this topic!
i started this first!

I was on a boomerang and the train valleyed in the boomerang. That was scary but then awesome

08-15-2001, 05:02 PM
One Big thunder mountain my lap bar come up when I was showing my little brother that the lap bar couldn't come up. Well I was wrong and my brother started to cry. He is just now stating to ride coaster agin. I thought that it was funny though.

08-15-2001, 05:06 PM
the scariest thing that happened 2 me was @ SFGAdv. on batman the ride...... the restraint poped up on me on the drop!!!!! AHHHH i pulled it down fast and it locked in2 place THANK GOD 4 THOSE BELTS

08-15-2001, 05:07 PM
on space mountain at DL my lapbar didn't lock down
good thing that ride doesn't give any air or i would be a goner

08-15-2001, 05:38 PM
I was on the Beast at PKI going into the first turn after the first hill when all of the sudden my lapbar came up. When I pushed it back down again, it wouldnt lock. So I had to ride the entire ride with me holding down the lapbar.

My harness came up while I was on Face/Off and remained open for about 10 seconds.

08-15-2001, 06:27 PM
The scarest thing that happened to me on a ride was i was on the stuntmans freefall at SFGAdv and my harnest dident lock down all the way it was about a good 11inches off me and if you could know the feeling that is to hold it but then if you let it go it gos up 11inchs or so and you think its ganna open! i was telling the ride operater to psuh it down and it wouldent go so he left it and i was like i want to get off and hes like dont worry u'll be fine im like no i wanna get off he egnored me and when we hit the tower to go backwards i pulled it down and it clicked then it went back up so i just held onto it and prayed so much then when we went over the top and it droped i had massiv air time! and then when it went to but us on our backs i got massiv whipblash becuase i flew foward into the restrinet then back into my seat. not only did i get whipblash but when i hit the seat my head hitthe headrest like mach 9 and i as dizzy for a few hrs. but when i got off the ride i screamed at the rride op and told another person what happened and about 2hrs or so later the ride was closed.

08-15-2001, 06:41 PM
This is nothing compared to yours, but mine was on Revolution. The restraint was perfect, but about halfway through, It locked down even farther. I could hardly breathe, but I did manage to get it off.

08-15-2001, 07:13 PM
Question! i started this thread and howcome that tiger guy has credit for the thread starter?

Kyle L
08-15-2001, 09:11 PM
on medusa, I wanted my restraint on tight for some reason, so I tried pulling down really hard, i got it, so as were going up, we reach the top and all of a sudden, the restraint pops up! I thought i was going to die, but luckily it just went up to a higher click, i think i didn't click it all the way!

08-15-2001, 09:31 PM
I was riding Face Off at PKI and the seat across from me was broke so no one could ride. Well the ops who check your restraints did it and as we were going up the hill the belt came undone on the broken one. Well anyways halfway through the cobra roll the OTSR's popped up. Well I was freaking out saying "that op has to be in trouble. Well anyways we got to the top of the second lift and we stopped. Well people on the ride who didn't know what was happening started yelling a screaming and some were saying this is cool. Then an op came up the stairs and they couldn't reach it so they told the person sitting next to the broken seat to pull it down and lock it for 'em. People on the ground were laughing and wondering what was happenin. So we were on the second lift for aout 10 minutes before they let us go again. I was hopin though that somethin would fly off and hit me so I could sue and become rich, but we all know that wouldn't happen.

08-15-2001, 11:23 PM
Mine is nothing but I went to belmont park (south ern Cali) because people were setting the world record for the longest time on a coaster. I was there because you could ride with them. Anyways I forget wich one I was with when we left the station our restraint popped up completely and we started to yell at the operater. I was really scared considering that was only about 11 at the time. They just stopped us on the lift fixed the problem and sent us on our way. Oh well, I thought it was scary at the time.

08-15-2001, 11:58 PM
When my lapbar popped up on the American Eagle. Not all the way, but enough. It happened after the helix and it was a rough ride on the small hills going back.

My lapbare feeling loose on Anacanda

08-16-2001, 01:48 AM
One of the scariest moments was when I was on a launched coaster. It was SPEED: the ride. Once our harnesses were locked, the operator was ready to launch. All of a sudden everyones harness popped open and everyone started screaming and yelling, " Wait the thing's not locked!!!!!" Luckily the coaster did not launch and the operator made sure that it was locked this time. THen we were off and we had a wonderful time on SPEED. Launched coasters are really scary because they launch you instantaneously, and so you can't get off the train if the harness breaks. On regualar full circuit coasters, you go on a slow moving lift hill and you have a chance to get out if something goes wrong.

08-16-2001, 02:48 AM
One time I was on Batman: The Ride at SFOG. About 3/4 up the lift, my restraint popped open. I pushed it back down. Then when the train was going over the little dip thing at the top, it popped open again, I pushed it back down, but it wouldn't lock! The seatbelt snapped on the drop. Then when I went through the loop, I flew out of the train and died.

The End

P.S. I went on the ride a few weeks ago and died again! I've died twice on that ride! Six Flags might want to consider checkng it.

08-16-2001, 03:03 AM
On the first time I rode Viper( the crappy TOGO) at SFGAdv, the Ops didn't push my restraint down far enough, and I freaked out. AT that time I still valued saftey and didn't want to die. The ops came and pushed it down and I survived that rough, headbanging ride, But now I am more daring on coasters, and I lift the restraint up a little to savor the air time and freedom during rides.

08-16-2001, 03:07 AM
My seat beat unlocked on Raptor while going through the first inversion...I was scared because it was my first time on the coaster and the ride had just opened a week earlier. I didn't get it locked until the mid-brake run.

08-16-2001, 03:27 AM
Waiting in line and watching Goliath Jr. rocket down its first drop at 1000000000000000 mph was scary too

On Viper at SFGAm in the back seat my harness didn't lock correctly and i had three inches to fly upwards, my friend and i were trying to jam it down up it wouldn't click and lock, ride scared the hell out of me. My harness alson went up on batman and i couldn't get it down again This happened on th first loop, when the ride stopped i flew forwards very far into the harness. That seatbelt saved me! I would have flown into the next car.

08-16-2001, 11:54 AM
on goliath my restraint was like 3 inches off me and i didn't realize it until i was on the lift(im so skinny that the restraints limit of going down was not touching me) so i stuck my hands u cause i had heard about how many G's there are on Goliath and i got air on the drop and i was freaked but on the third hill i learned the true Value of a hyper AIRTIME i floated 3 inches offf my seat for like 5 seconds it was awesome.
PS. i sat in the exact same seat (the restraint said erica both times) and it happened again it was the secomd row right side.

08-16-2001, 05:27 PM
Another seat prob happened to me! But it wasn't really a ride. I was on Alien Encounter at Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom and the seat pulls down automaticly over your head and stops at your shoulders.. well it pushed down into my shoulders a didn't stop until it was really uncomfotable. Then halfway through it moves up and down cuz it's supposed to make it feel like the alien was moving it up and down... well it reajusted even tighter! I was like scrunched down in the seat with it cutting into my neck and my shoulders! My sis and I left with our shoulders killing and a headache cuz it was soo loud! Plus everything that was supposed to happen in my seat didnt happen except for the moving which was too much. My dad was like, "This is a great ride! You gotta go on this if you go on anything here!" ...well no i'm gonna have to disagree, it sukked a$$! If you go there don't waste your time on that.. ride Space Mountain 100 times instead.

08-16-2001, 05:45 PM
cont.. another one at Universal.. the Back to the Future 3D/motion ride.. between the person in front of me and the side of the car I couldn't see most of the screen.. and I got major headache.. that was the longest line I waited on there.. if you really wanna sit through it and get your head bashed around go ahead and ride it but that also skkued IMO.. tho if you sit in the front middle youll be fine.. nothing to hit there.

For all you worring about headbanging on DD & Hulk and you survived that one, you have no excuse, RIDE THE DRAGONS

Dr.Bruce Banner
08-16-2001, 06:01 PM
I was riding Dr. Dooms Fear Fall At Islands Of adventure and the doors wouldnt close. And then the shoulder restraints would not Lock. I was freaked out.

08-16-2001, 07:16 PM
Hum honestly the worst thing that has ever hapened to me was geting my cell phone wet on Log Jammer lol...(ok i was scared my poor radiation producing device!!) dangit i guess nothing interesting hapens to me

06-20-2002, 02:20 PM
For me it happened on a Batman The Ride clone at my park. The restraint went up a few clicks right before the first corkscrew. Or getting stuck of the 130 foot high lift of Monster's (http://rcdb.com/installationgallery186.htm?Picture=4) lift and hoping not to walk down those tiny, frail, wooden steps. It restarted a couple of seconds later.

06-20-2002, 02:47 PM
I was too skinny for the lapbar on Rebel Yell and almost slipped out.

well its not a coaster but when i was on the Skycoaster at CP when i got to the top that was the scariest moment EVER, i had to pull the string too, it sucked cause they're like "THREE TWO ONE FLY!!!!" and i lightly tugged and it would fall so i panicked and then finally i closed my eyes and pulled harder then the rest was REALLY FUN but scary.

the scariest moment on a real coaster was on boomerang it was my first coaster and i was really scared.

Also, On american eagle at SFGAM i was stuck at the top of the lift in the front row for about 30 minutes. The front car was hanging downwards so it was kinda freaky. We were racing the blue train. I think it lapped us like 10 times or something:rolleyes: .

The only one that comes to mind where I was ON a ride was my first time on Grizzly at PKD. The lap bar didn't lock down as far as I liked, and the air-time was really intense on a few of the drops! (I rode it again later that day and loved it!) Of course, you could count the time I went on Swamp Fox (an awesome woodie) when I was barely tall enough to ride it. It was the biggest coaster I'd seen up until that time, and it scared the daylights out of me. But I rode it again and again.

I can think of two times I was scared while standing in line:

There's the time I was waiting in line to ride Doppel Looping (a portable Schwarzkopf double-looper) at the S.C. State Fair. When the train roared by on one of the turns, the entire track swayed back and forth a few feet (and this was right near the queue line!) and my brother and I thought "Oh my gosh, it's going to fall apart!" It didn't ...

And I think several people have mentioned watching Outer Limits: Flight of Fear launch for the first time. "Oh My Gosh! We're Gonna Die!" Rode it 2 or 3 times that trip ... But I'll never forget the first time I saw the launch.

This is wat happened 2 a friend at cp. Well we were on mean streak and my friend took off his seat belt on the lift.....this is because he likes his seatbelt TIGHT. It was all twised though. He said it was hurting him. So he took it off and he untwisted it. Then he couldnt get the selt belt to buckle. All though th ride he was holding on and he made sure that he was not gonna fly out. After that he said....I AM NEVER RIDING THAT AGAIN.....well he rode it again.....actually in 8 1/2 minutes

06-20-2002, 06:18 PM
I was on Viper at SFGAm and as we were going up one of the hills and a penny came flying past my head. It was really freaky to so a penny floating past your head as you're going 60 mph. If it me, I'd have to get stitches and end my day early :( .

06-20-2002, 06:21 PM

If it HIT me, I'd need stitches and end my day.

Hmm... I've never been scared... just frightened. Okay, nevermind. Three instances bring to mind:

My first ride on Titan. I'd never been on a drop that big... and the floater air... I thought I was going to fly out. Now it's my favorite feeling on a coaster!

Next would be my first ride on Lakeside Cyclone at Lakeside in Denver, CO. It was the wildest ride of my life! Reasons why:
a) Back Seat
b) By Myself
I'd never experienced such a wild coaster! Plus, it wasn't very tall so I was expecting a babyish ride. Oh wow- I thought I was going to die!

Finally would be my first and only TRUE wild mouse, Wild Chipmunk, which is also at Lakeside. The cars are very small and mouse shaped, so I rode alone. Those hairpin turns were VERY VERY SCARY! I really thought I was going to fall over and hurt myself. These new steel mousies just can't compare to this Miller classic out in Denver!

06-20-2002, 10:17 PM
When i was on the Vortex at PKI my OTSR made a snapping noise and it unbuckled to one notch looser on the corkscrew. And anyone who has ridden Vortex knows that it goes slow enough on the corkscrews that you basically are lying on your OTSR. So if that thing goes you are too AHH!!

My scary moment on a roller coaster.....

Mr. Freeze (SFST.L)- When i saw the train launch out of the station, it terrified me., then I wondered how it will stop the train. Then I felt the station rattle so hard when the train returned and hit the brakes. Friends and I were practically mortified to death when we launched out of there for the first time ever....nothing like the feeling of being shot out the first time. BUT, since the coaster was new..(it was opening season for the coaster), my and my best friend's OTSRs popped open on the spike...i mean open...we got terrified and kept trying to close them and couldnt until we started to get vertical in reverse. then our OTSRs closed then...man, i didnt ride Mr Freeze agian until a year later.

I was in the back seat on viper at SFGAm and decided it would be a good idea to leave the harness about four clicks too loose. Big Mistake. I had a fractured wrist and could only hold on with one hand. I thought I was going to fly right out of my seat. One of the people at the station laughed at my and said it looked like I was riding a bull hanging on with on hand and the other one in the air.

HELL YA!!! Only i have something to make it better. Pick the seat with the lap bat that will only go down one click (I didn't do it on purpose either!!!). and i knew how much air that ride got. i was pulling my seatbelt as tight as it could possibly go. it was crazy. i was so freaked out. ok that my story. I'll shut up now.

when i rode with your mom... heh, coasters arent scary....

06-21-2002, 03:42 PM
I was on the Tennessee Tornado and while we were in the station, the shoulder harness popped up. we the guy w/ the controls said try again, and they popped up again. This happened again, And I just assumed that we would have to get off. Instead he just said "We'll give it a shot." everyone was like is he crazy, but they stayed down.

06-21-2002, 08:35 PM
While I was on the Riddler's Revenge, it stopped on the lift and made a buzzing noise, and a ride OP climbed up the lift and lowered someones OTSR, but a he did that, my adjusting seat unlocked and I spent the rest of the ride feeling like I was on Medusa, or crouching so low that my knees hurt. Either that or X's lift, you keep thinking "when is it gonna drop":flip:

06-21-2002, 09:52 PM
I went on the alpingiest at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and in the middle of the lift hill the ride suddenly stopped. It was dark as he!!. No lights or anything. they turned the lights on and walked up the steps. they told us that someone took the seatbalt off. Since this is a B&M the harness has a seatbelt. This probably set off a sensor.

I got scared cause i was alone. There was like 10 ppl there. It started 10 mins later

06-22-2002, 10:16 AM
My scariest experience was on my first rollercoaster, Magnum XL-200. The reason this was my 1st is because my friend invited me to go. Me, not knowing they had so many coasters went. I was forced to ride. The good thing is that I am now addicted:sun: to coasters!

06-22-2002, 12:44 PM
Mine would be when the seat back in front of me on Serial Thriller almost came off during the ride. The screws were loose and it was rattling badly.

06-22-2002, 02:13 PM
many scary occasions.

in 98 or 99 i went to moreys piers and was on the nor easter at night. im going up the lift and all the power in wildwood goes off. we stopped, and this lady behind me had a fit and was trying to get out. the train was shaking like crazy, and since there was no light from anywhere i couldnt see the ground, but i guess the coaster has a backup generator, b/c a few spotlights came on and we started up again, only to be stuck on the brakes at the end. well some kids thought it would be funny to throw things at us, and we still cant see them. i get hit in the head with an m&m so i get a big lugee and spit and all i hear is ewwwwwww gross.

later that week i was on the sea serpeant, and we were going up the second hill when all the otsrs on the train popped up. we were still going and we were near the release point and the train finally stopped. the technician couldnt get them to lock so we walked down

06-22-2002, 06:12 PM
Well, my scariest experience wasn't that bad, but it was freaky at the time, so here it goes.

I was at GrAdv with a friend on a Sunday afternoon, taking a ride on Batman: The Ride. When I locked my OTSR's, they locked, but didn't seem right. I tugged at them and and they held, so I figured they were fine. Halfway up the lift hill, i lose a lock on my OTSR, but at the time i felt I had lost everything. However, I quickly pulled it down, and it locked normally and I was fine. LoL it woulda been funny if it didn't lock, though, because I was already planning out how I'd jump off the ride onto the stairs if I couldn't get it re-locked. And by the way, it stayed locked for the rest of ride.

06-22-2002, 09:37 PM
Superman: Ultimate Escape was by far my most scary coaster ride, in history for me, even scarier than Millennium Force. It was scary being on my first shuttle coaster. Plus one coaster that looks like that! Oh, my it is one of the weirdest coasters that I have ever seen, weirdest next to V2 at SFMW, wow, take a gander at that lol. :D;):D

06-22-2002, 11:01 PM
When I did the sky thing at Indiana Beach. The free fall feeling is awesome though

06-22-2002, 11:36 PM
Back in 1968, I rode the Blue Streak at CP for the first time. It was still unpainted back then. It was my first BIG roller coaster and I loved it. Later in the afternoon, I got on it again. While waiting for my turn to ride, they stopped the train on the lift hill. A worker ran up the hill with what looked like an ice pick. He proceeded to fenagle the pick into the side of one of the cars, letting the saftey bar fall down on the riders lap - it had been in the up position when the train was dispatched, manually by the operators with their long wooden levers which controlled the friction brakes. After the bar was down, the train proceeded up the hill. Two trains later, I got on. Now, mind you, I was only 10 years old and this was a REAL roller coaster. As we went through the ride, I noticed the saftey bar was not locked down. Fortunately for me, I was very tall at age 10, so I was able to lock my feet under the seat in front of me. I was scared sh**less!!!!
I told the operators what happened when we returned to the station, and they told me that it happens once in a while.

Now that I'm older, I must consider the event as a treasure, even though very dangerous, because I'm now locked into the seat so tightly that "air time" is something I only read about on the Coaster Forum pages.

06-23-2002, 02:16 PM
when i was at cedar point last week i saw a train of people stuck up on the mantis with a ride op on the way up. the scary part was that the wether had changed from sunny to thunder storms.

06-23-2002, 04:17 PM
The scariest experiece I have ever had is every time I ride the Comet at Waldameer. It is not even close to intense but it is very very old and looks to be in poor condition.

Besides that, I hate standing in line and knowing that everything you guys mentioned could happen to me! (fortunately it never does, just the ride in front of me :()

06-23-2002, 04:19 PM
Oh, wait! I forgot being the last train to run on DD because of a thunderstorm. It is NOT NICE going through a loop, looking up and seeing lightning!

06-23-2002, 04:52 PM
my scariest moment was when i was waiting in line for superman the escape. We were the next to go in. We heard it launch, then we heard this huge noise, like it was still going like 50 when it came back into the station. Thjere was a huge crash. It had hit the emergency brakes in the back, and it was closed for like an hour.

really that's scary. I would hate that. Did anyone get hurt???

Once I was on Nitro and I got in pulled my lapbar down normally. It was still pretty tight Then the ride op came and pushed it down really hard like my thighs were being squashed into the seat. But I didnt' want to let it ruin my ride. But then on the drop i put my hands up and i heard a click and my lapbar just like popped. It took me till the midcourse brakes to realize that it only popped a little and it was slightly higher than I usually put it. The whole ride tho I was holding it down with a death grip.

06-24-2002, 02:05 PM
Did you happen to tell the ride op afterwards? If you didnt you should have because that can sometimes be a serious problem. Think for a minute, what if it was a little girl/boy who just made the height requirement and it popped open like you said. They could have flown out!

Sorry, old op habit kicking in

06-24-2002, 05:53 PM
The time that it happened when i was in line for S:TE, no one was hurt, its jsut one of those rare things where the magnets are too powerful and it goes like 105 or something and hits the brakes on the top of the tower. When it comes back, the magnet slow it like normal, but the train is faster than normal, yet the magnets don't know, so when it re-enters the station its going to fast and it hit the emergency brakes in the back. Happens every so often. We just stayed in line and after about 15 minutes we got on and it was jsut fine.

06-24-2002, 11:19 PM
I'd have to say my first ride on Magnum 5 years ago was the scariest experience I'd ever had. Previously the largest coaster I'd been on was Ninja at SFOG so I had very little experience in the coaster department. The minute I saw that thing my jaw dropped, it seemed impossible it could actually be the structure for a roller coaster.

scariest ride i had was @ Space Mountain in DL, My sister and I had cheated out the people and showed the a fast pass that was to be used 45 minutes later but i guess they didn't see it. hehe :D We had got into the train and sat down. The operators were practically pushing in and out of the trains! but anyways, we had pulled down the bars. It had stayed for a second but then it popped back up. We tried to push it down 7 or more times. We had started to move and my sister screamed, "IT WON'T GO DOWN!!" right in my ear. suddenly it sounded like we had hit a bar or sumthing and the bars popped down and stayed. My sister yelled thank you. it was funny. @ the end of the ride in the multin -colored tunnel when they take your picture, i had to sneeze, so in my picture i look like i am about to sneeze. horrible and terrifying.:p

I was stuck with my buddy on the top of Steel Force. I looked ALL THE WAY DOWN  and said...

"Man, I'm starving. Do you think they'll deliver from that Subway stand (points down) ?"

Case in Point: Hunger is Frightening! :=

06-29-2002, 10:43 PM
umm the only thing i can think of is when i got stuck on rolling thunder... just as the train hit the break station i guess the system fdailed.. and they couldnt bring us back into the station.. not really that big of a deal... and in a few minutes they got it started up again.. but sort of made me realize what if it happened during the ride... and it just so happens.. that was my first coaster ride of this year... not a very good sign:(

The scariest thing that ever happened to me was when I was on Medusa East and the Restraint popped up on the lift. I just grabbed it and it clicked back into place. It was pretty scary for a second.

Gotta give it to Rolling Thunder when it was at SFGAm, this was when I didn't know everything about the safety of coasters, and as we went into one section, at a somewhat sharp turn, our car went all the way up to where the tube lips over, and we hit that, and I didn't know that the lip meant anything, and neither did anyone else in the car, and we all had thought that the car had almost flown off the track and we almost fell to our demise. Of course now I look back and laugh at that, but at the time it was genuine fear of God in my eyes, it was scary.

07-06-2002, 07:14 PM
On the Great White at Wildwood, the lap-bar came three clicks loose and I felt I was going to fall out.

07-07-2002, 03:39 PM
i got stuck at the top of Magnum, but thats it.

07-07-2002, 03:53 PM
My scariest experinences were noth at SFOG. A few years ago on GASM, my lap bar popped up momentarily on the left turn. My only other nerve-racking experience was my first time on Deja Vu (are we vertical yet?).
