There are a wide variety of rumors running around about what will replace Kenton`s Cove Keelboat canal. Some say a new steel coaster, possibly a hype or giga. Some say a new dark ride themed to either Titantic or Tomb Raider, or a water coaster of some type. Demolition of KCKC should be completed soon and construction should begin very soon after that!

i heard that it could possibly be the longest steel coaster....that would be kinda cool next to the longest wood coaster....not sure though, just what i heard

I've heard that PKI is trying to become more of a "theme" park rather than a "thrill" park, so I'd bet against a giga or other large coaster. A dark ride is likely, or a well themed water ride of some kind. It'd be nice to see PKI get a hyper or giga and really begin to compete with CP, but I just don't see that happening.

The Beast

Well the day this thing(whatever it is) starts going vertical, is basically judgement day for PKI. If it looks like its going to be a dark ride then they are obviously trying to become a theme park. If its a hyper or giga coaster, then they are still competing for thrills with SFWOA and CP.

making PKI into a theme park would be VERY nice (theme AND thrills in ohio), but i can't see them doing good without adding coasters. instead i think they'll take the bucsh aproach of theming coasters. also, they dont' have the money to add a spiderman type ride as somone stated in a diffrent thread

It is now highly rumored to be the longest coaster in the world

Well, now THAT would be interesting. The longest steel coaster - ? Stands to reason. Right next to the longest wooden coaster at that!

I think PKI SHOULD become a destination resort-type theme park. But they will need an original hook to get people to come here instead of Disney, and the like. What could they build upon here in SW Ohio? In the process of doing that, though, I think they would be wise to grab a steel hyper, or giga, with a really neat layout. You know - just for added insurance. Give the place a kick in the tushy for the thrill seekers, and to compete at least a little bit with CP and SFWoA. Then they could theme til their heart's content

They already are competing a little bit with CP and SFWOA. In fact, they're beating SFWOA by a longshot and keeping up closely with CP. KI's attendence figures are very high.
Well, yeah. But I meant competing with them in the steel coaster department. Between CP and SFWoA, you already have a hyper, giga, flying and floorless. Not to mention something with an inline roll. Those 5 types of coasters seem to be all the rage. Yet, PKI does not have ONE steelie that does any of that. Plus, CP has a much more interesting stand-up.

PKI, in my opinion, needs to get some sort of steel coaster that will contend with all those. It's sad, to me, that Northern Ohio is getting those kinds of steel coasters. So yeah, I think PKI needs to catch up a little. I can't afford to go to Sandusky or Cleveland all the time.

to be quite honest with you guys... pki needs either a floorless or an inverted... something b and m... their steel collection is just awful. The new paint job on the Vortex has been needed for about 6 years, and flight of fear, though better without horsecollars, cannot compare to mantis, raptor, batman knight flight, x-flight, or any of the steelies up north. Im going to cedar point to work for the summer. So enjoy reptar...

Doesnt SOB attract a crowd? It is the only looping wooden coaster and it was the first hyper woodie. I also heard it is a lot smoother this year and more enjoyable. Anyways, I think they should get a themed dark ride to Tomb Raider. It could be like Dionsaur at Disney's Animal Kingdom or something similar. Being more of a theme park attracts people than just being a thrill park... Besides, you got Face/Off, Drop Zone, SOB, and FOF got new restraints... all that in 3 years consider yourselves lucky

[ This Message was edited by: GhettoCoaster on 2001-05-24 20:22 ]

ARGH!!!!

You people are missing my point. Sure, they have great wood. But there are 5 types of steel coasters, and/or elements, that PKI does NOT have, which would be of great benefit to them, and give PKI as much of a reputation as CP has. What is the big deal with getting that kind of steel at King's Island? Would you guys honestly be UPSET if they did? Bring on a world class steel coaster, and then they can theme the place up until the cows come home, I don't care. It would just be really nice to have one of those five steel coaster types/elements at PKI, instead of having to drive 4-5 hours to Northern Ohio, which I cannot afford to do.

I have heard rumors from people that it might be a flying coaster that goes into PKI in 2002. Oh and as far as that longest steel next to the longest wooden rumor, I was watching the news, I live in Cincy, and there was a hometown report on the local roller coaster manufacturer (sorry cant remember the name) Currently this company is drawing up plans for a wooden coaster to go in somewhere near Las Vegas that would be close to 2 miles long!! Beating out the Beast, but who knows what could happen.

I'd bet against a dark ride going in where KCKC stands. From what I heard the new ride (or coaster... but ride associates can't say) is tied into the Area around Vortex, KCKC, and Beast. If this is true I would not be surprised if a massive coaster was built, what I don't know, but I would place my money on it being a coaster. I also didn't rule out that new dark ride, but it probably will not be where KCKC is. Did everyone notice that there is no new show in the Paramount Theatre this year yet? I'll check tomorrow to make sure this is still correct, perhaps the Paramount Theatre will have a major transformation into that rumored dark ride, because I do not think (I hope not) that PKI will kill the theme of Rivertown by adding a dark ride themed to Titanic or Tomb Raider where KCKC was. Also, the Area where this is is unbelievably large for a building, it would be one huge building on the footprint of KCKC

Yes that would be very bad for them to ruin the Rivertown theme. Paramount Theater is where they are currently processing passes. It would be a great place for a dark ride.

A giga to be bigger than Steel Dragon 2000 would be awesome. A floorless or Flying Dutchman would be sweet too.

I agree with others that whatever they build there next year will determine if they want thrills or theme. I personally think if they go for thrills then they should take the Busch Gardens approach and build the best coasters with the best theme every couple of years. I think they should build a hyper/giga that is the longest in the world. The U.S. needs to take that record back from the Japanese. However, if they are going for theme then a dark ride themed to Tomb Raider would be very cool.

The Beast
05-31-2001, 03:45 PM
True, but a Tomb Raider ride in Rivertown would totally ruin the theme.

I'd like to see the Bat return as a B&M inverted coaster in Rivertown. I think that the Titanic theme would suck.

Again, guys...the Tomb Raider thing isn't happening next year. Although I know about the Titanic dark ride, someone here got me to thinking about the placement. I would love to see the Theater used for the Titanic thing, as a Giant coaster would do a lot to add tpo the skyline in that corner of the park. But sadly, if there were a coaster to be added next year...I would have known about it! I have relatives that are on the year-round staff, and they were right about The Beast, King Cobra, White Water Canyon, Vortex, even SoB...all LONG before they were ever announced. That is why I'm so sure of this Titanic thing....

[ This Message was edited by: Coasterdime on 2001-06-06 20:27 ]

I didn't get my info from a web site. I got it a few months ago from a few different sources. (all are year 'round employees at PKI) ALL of them described a Titanic ride. Maybe that was only one idea being kicked around this spring....but they seemed sure of themselves. I'm not sure if PKI is "playing with us" describing Tomb Raider, or if that was their final selection. I am only relaying what I've been told. A I've said in other threads, I knew of Beast, King Cobra, Bat, FOF, SOB...you get the idea, all LONG beore their announcements. If the info I relayed is wrong, oh well. But I have little reason not to believe. Personally, Tomb Raider sounds like more fun, and I'm hoping....but I am still pretty confident about the Titanic thing. July 2 will either prove or disprove what I've been saying, but this would be the first time I've EVER been given bad info.

Coasterdime,

I don't think we are going to see "Titanic" at PKI because I was at PKI today and they added more to the billboard. All I can say is that I don't think "Titanic" is the name of the ride. Unless it sank in the jungle. The sign is covered up with tarp and the landscaping is more of a jungle theme. Even though the whole thing is covered, parts of it were showing through little openings. I did see a statue of what looked like to be buddahish. The head had three faces on each side. I also saw one of the hands holding a sword. If I remember correctly in "Tomb Raider" there is a big living statue that comes alive that looked like that. Guys, I think Lara Croft has found a new home at PKI.

Id say it's clear at this point of a Top Spin sort of ride themed to Tomb Raider . With the hopes of a coaster of some sorts, Setpoint swing thing (SS), or my hope any type of B&M . This park needs a B&M more than anything else in the world . Think of how many major non Disney parks in this country that dont have a B&M . Not many . Plus PKI is in need of a ride that can do 1600 people a hour .

Are they annoncing the new ride at the park on the second of july, and when i went there, there was a big sign covered up by a big blue tarp. 2nd the ride cant be that big because if u ride beast, you can see a neighborhood of the side and when i went to the neighborhood i could still hear sob which would be annoying enough. Last, the THRILLRIDE guy said that it would get you wet and spin you around and was at another paramont park AND wasnt a coaster, well if you go to the ride section of Canadas Wonderland's Website, you will see a ride called cliffhanger that is like a gravitron (if you play RTC) and has little springs that shoot water out. it might be themed to tomb raider, but that is a strong prediction for a ride. dont forget my question... if you know email me.
