Space Mountain at MK, since you really can lose your hands from it! People have!
<BR>Gemini at CP features one of the best headchoppers ever, where theres a really steep drop barely missing a huge steel beem (at least it seems like it anyway). If you've been on Gemini you must know what I'm talking about

I agree with those who said that Gemini has good headchopper effects. I noticed them mainly at the bottom of the first drop.

<BR>However, I think that the Coney Island Cyclone does them the best. The track comes very close at many parts throughout the ride.

I agree with Apoolo's Chariot that FOF has a pretty good head chopper effect. I think it's because they fit so much into a little space so it seems like your gonna get your hands cut off.

Phantom's Revenge i mean this thing has 3 head choppers. Theres the one when you go down the 228 foot dive then when you come back around and go through the Thunderbolt again thats the altimate cause it gives you airtime just when it's a head chopper so it gives you more of a head chopper effect.
<BR>
<BR>Then the headchopper under neath the brakes is very good also cause if you skinny and small you get very high out of your seat and it just adds to the many many thrills of this ride
<BR>
<BR>Phantom's Revenge is #1 on my list! <BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: rcmadiax on 2001-07-07 13:02 ]</font>

S.D.C Galixi second drop. If you have your arms up and are over 6 feet, your hands WILL touch the supports.

Exiting the first helix and entering the second helix on S:ROS at SFDL and SFA. Also, Millennium Force after exiting the 3rd overbanked turn. When you pass underneath the pull-out of the 182 foot hill, you get pretty darn close!

I think that up on the list would be the CI Cyclone, MF, and S:ROS at SFA (chances are the others have good effects too, but I haven't been on them).

The Cyclone is really scary...great headchoppers since it is so tight.

MF has a good headchopper too.

Finally, S:ROS when you exit the first helix and enter the second one. Pretty close :)

Apollo's Chariot second valley where they placed that "tent". The elevated seats and my height of 6"3" make me worry about putting my hands up. I swear I'd smack that thing so hard if I put my hands straight up.

Legend at HW has a good one when you enter the second tunnel. It's pretty low and I pulled my hands down a couple times. I think the best I've encountered is on Gold Rusher at SFMM. The drop under the log flume is crazy close!

As in their drop into the tunnel on Goliath. Always fun watching people with their hands up on the drop yank them down and duck as they reach the tunnel at the bottom.

Rebel2000
03-05-2003, 02:56 PM
I'd have to say the second drop into the tunnel on Grizzly at PKD (after the turnaround). That thing is so small! It amazes me that the train fits through! I didn't expect it on my first ride. My arms were way up going down the drop, but how quickly they went down after seeing that tunnel. There's no doubt in my mind that I could touch the top if I tried, but I like my hands the way they are so I won't. ;)

S:ROS @ SFA (out of 1st helix and into 2nd helix) and Gemini (first drop) also have great headchoppers.

coasetrphil

Beast in the brake shed,my dad thought he was going to nail the top with his hands, and Viper at SFGAm because you can get thrown pretty far out of your seat if the lapbar is loose.

We have the most famous headchopper.....arguably. The GASM at SFOG has a shed that the final brakes are in, but you come soaring over the final bunny hop right at the roof of it! I duck everytime.

A lot of the rides mentioned such as The Villain, Gemini, and Mean Streak have below average headchoppers, out of everything I've done. The best I've done would probably be Magic Mountain's Goliath. How many inches of clearance do they have between the ceiling of that tunnel and the headrests??

I hear tell that the guage for clearance is 18 inches over a 6foot 2 man's reach. So for all you NBA stars out there, keep your hands down. This is not a joke. The Clippers suck ba enough as is.

On the head chopper tip, I wanna throw my vote in for Kraken. Sure it doesn't have the best head-choppers...but it does have cool ones.

I'll say Gemini on the Blue side. On Red it's Okay but on Blue its like Holy Swit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You get what I mean. Millennium Force has one out on the Island. personally i didn't think it was that great but i saw TONs of silly GPs pulling down their hands.

Volcano-TBC has some excellent foot choppers but I guess that's not the issue here.

I like this one. The track doesn't really come close, but you're having massive ejector seat airtime right underneath the head chopper, which really increases the effect.

If Viper gets the award for best head chopper, then doesn't that apply to all of the Coney Island Cyclone replicas all over the world?

Viper isn't a total clone and the support work may be different on those rides.

It is a clone, its layout is just mirrored from the original. And support/structure assembly may have minor differences, but only the keenest eye would be able to point them out.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

MOD EDIT: removed for image leeching

Both the Phantom's Revenge and Thunderbolt have amazing head choppers there.

Kraxle, you are totally wrong on this one. The original Cyclone does not have a double dip. Viper does.

Also having been on GA Cyclone, it does not have the same killer headchoppers so there are differences.

Gemini
The Legend. . killer head chopper combined with air time near the water park. Looks like you are gonna hit the waterslide.

Im going to Kennywood the end of June and i think this (http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery123.htm?Picture=3) will be an insane head chopper on Phantoms Revenge.

I have to say the Beast, it's so hard to keep your hands up through the final Helix, but if you do it's so much fun!

Yea Gemini has the best head chooper. Its cool to see everyone with there hands up in front of you down that drop and then watch them all pull them down.

The downward twist on Top Thrill Dragster has some great headchopping elements - even if they come at you vertically.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad--Disneyland right after the downward helix. Gold Rusher SFMM going right under log jammer

I bet the best of all time would have been that tunnel that was on Mr. Twister, but of the coasters I've been on I'd say that huge steel beam on gemini cuz i can't recall much else, i remember the tunnel on zambezi zinger was pretty sudden and it got me good.

It has to be GASM at Six Flags Over Georgia. It's the roof on the right in the picture. http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery41.htm?Picture=3
I mean come on, it looks like a 2 foot clearance just from the picture. Also, as you can see, it's just hidden behind the last hill so if you don't know about, you don't even see it coming. This is the only head chopper that made me put down my hands and duck into the car.

When Phantom's Revenge goes under Thunderbolt every person puts there hands down its soo funny if you are sitting in the last row watching all the people with their hands up going straight down for that split second. Also if you are sitting on the right outside of Kumba the first loop goes over the lift and it looks like with your hands full up you might be able to touch the guard rail on the lift.

Gemini I guess would be my pick. It's also unnerving that the beam is huge. I think that's one of the better parts of the coaster.
