sadly, looks like you were right. the early report seems to have been totally wrong, and that 50,000 people were working in there. in the face of this tragedy, i should learn to stop being optimistic about anything.

I heard that there was around 20,000 people in both buildings and 200+ people have died in the Pentagon crash (not shure if that includes the people on the air plane)

mrk468zz, I think you are wrong. I am pretty sure about 50,000 or so people were in the buildings when the planes hit it. It was like the most crowded time of the day.

I have a question, has anyone here actually witnessed this? If so, can you tell your story.

Exclamation

I am seriously in a state beyond belief. Honestly, I don't know what to do...

I really don't know what to say. I'm seriously shocked...they went into as little detail as possible at school today, just asking if anyone had both of their parents working in NYC today.

Then some kids found out that some planes crashed into the world trade center and the pentagon, but nobody went into detail...I thought that the tops were hit or something, but I didn't think there was any major damage.

It's just so hard to imagine how much this will affect so many people. I can't begin to imagine the impact this will have on so many lives...I am seriously speechless, I can't think whatsoever.

Fortunately, as far as I know, none of my parents/relatives were hurt or killed, and none of my friends' parents or relatives. But my sorrows go out to anyone who has a relative that was in the WTC/Pentagon and was killed or injured in the bombing...That's about all I can say.

I work at a radio station in Baltimore and we saw everything happen as it happened. In fact, we've been in the midst of around-the-clock coverage since 9am. I simply cannot fathom how any of this could happen. I'm still in shock, mainly because I've been focused on the news aspect of it and haven't really had time to let everything sink in. It's starting to hit me now, and I feel weak. This is the scariest thing I have ever experienced...as I am sure it is for you as well. I further suggest that we keep everyone in our prayers. Some of you may know that Alex Westerman, Roman Kazan and Bob Coker of ThrillNetwork.com are based in New York. While not near the World Trade Centers, I know they are probably pretty shaken up and had family and/or friends in the World Trade Center at the time of the crash. Alex is on vacation out of state - whereas Roman is still around in NY as well as Bob. Keep everyone in your prayers, please.

I send out my condolences to every person involved in this hell, and I commend the firefighters and police officers for their bravery. God Bless America.

I am still in shock. I feel like crying, which is unusual for me. It is scary. The plane that crashed in Pennsylvania made it all the way to near me in Cleveland before doing a 180. I can't begin to think about how those in the planes and the towers felt as they began to see their doom. The forever changed landscape of New York City. And recently hearing word that two people were arrested with having some type of explosives near the George Washington Bridge. I could have heard wrong, but that's what I heard from CBS News anchor, Dan Rather. It is not known if it is connected to today's earlier attacks.

What if something like this happened at an amusement park?? I want to keep replies short on this in respect to those that lost loved ones today. But it is possible that something of this magnitude could occur. When most of us go to amusement parks, we feel that nothing can hurt us.

We became "that other country" today. We were the ones hit, and I think the group that organized this wanted us to feel what it is like to be under attack, rather than the attackers. Possibly seeing us as attackers while the UN Peace Seeking Troops attempt to do their jobs.

This will be a day when the US will unite together and when these heartless, gutless terrorists, the ones who masterminded this, are finally brought to justice; let us hope that they can feel the fear, the ache, the terror that they bestowed on us...let us hope that they have to live with it, and as others have said, torture them till they can take no more, and still add to it...

or kill them.

Well, this has been one of the most shocking and saddest days of my life. I'll never forget this day, and neither will america. Our hearts are with all the victims and their families. And I will close with a quote by an unknown author:

"Personally, I'd like to see three towers built in their place, with the middle one much taller than the other two. That way, it would look like a giant middle finger, directed straight at the *****ers who did this."

Post A Reflection from your chat moderator

Today, I think we will be learning a lot of lessons from what happened on this very tragic day. There even came to be points where I felt like breaking down. As a coasterchat moderator, it's made my job harder today having to deal with those that came on. I had to be careful not to let my emotions get in the way with others. Unfortunately, there were at least a couple who tested mine and other's patiences today, and as a result we as mods decided to ban anyone in chat for 24 hours automatically so we can reflect and heal without having the insensitive ones trying to hinder it.

Our college had probably its first gathering of the campus community in a very long time today. I have never seen such a mass get-together planned with only 90 minutes notice. Basically, we as a nation have to set aside our petty differences and deal with this as one united nation.

My thoughts have been with Alex, Roman, and Bob today. They all work in Manhattan. Fortunately, Alex is on vacation in Florida, but I am sure he is affected by this, with the parks closing and back at home. My thoughts have also been with the victims and families of this disaster, in the World Trade Center, in the Pentagon, and aboard the airplanes. As I heard just now, New York lost at least three of its top firefighters, including its chief. They've also been with the members of this site who live in the New York Area.

I know you have expressed great concern for Evil Princess (in which I am a fan of her too), but rest assured she is OK, and she is from Long Island, which is near enough to it. Unfortunately, we have to set aside our concern for one member and expand it to all of our members affected by this great tragedy.

September 11, 2001 will be a day to remember. Like Pearl Harbor, this day will be a day we live in infamy.

I am shocked buy this devastating event. This is the first time I have ever felt that our country is in possible danger. I just could not imagine coming home from school to not have parents there for me. My hopes and prayers go out to all the victim's families and friends.

This is one of those things where you will never forget where you were when this happened. All of Downtown LA was evacuated and LAX is like a ghost town. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims.

I was in New York and couple months ago and I was looking through my pictures today. The WTC which was once a landmark on Manhattan was reduced to rubble in a few hours. I can't believe it.

there were probably more like 5,000 actually there. i may be wrong about this.
Yeah...ummm....I think you're a bit off with that figure. I'd be shocked if less then 45,000 were at work when this happened. Luckily there was about a 20 minute gap between the two planes so people in the second tower could get the heck out. I feel bad for the people on the top of the first tower (I feel bad for everyone of course), because they were basically stuck up there while a fire was ragging below them.

I'm also really upset that the fire-fighters that were on the ground were taken out when the second tower fell. That just sucks...you're working and a damn building falls on you. Ug. They're saying that around 300 fire fighters were killed today. 300 men who came to help out and BAM they're taken out from a falling building. I don't even think that the terrorists who planned this thought that the buildings would collaps.

Now, to us. What can we do? Well, for one I'd hope that you don't become a racist like my friends have. They're telling me how we should just bomb all the arabs and stuff like that. Don't be an idiot. Think how bumbed you are if you live in the same county as that Bin Ladin guy. I'd be pretty pissed off, because I'd know my countries about to become under attack. Just put yourself in the Muslum people in our country. These people are just as much Americans as you and I and don't treat them any differnently.

Now for them. Who the hell do these people think they are celebrating and dancing in the streets at news that our towers and Pentagon's been attacked? Do we do that when their people are shot up or bombed? That **** pisses me off.

Now...I dunno if you're like me, but no one takes over an airplane I'm on with a damn razor blade. Yep, they were able to pull this off because they had the common household razor blade. You know what your parents use when they do the wall paper? Damn. I think I'm gunna start carrying one of those on a plane with me to defend myself! They also say there were 3-5 terroists on each plane. I'm not dumb enough to take them on, but I'm smart enough to nudge my buddy and go at it. Think about it...a plan full of people vs. 4 terrorists and razor blades. This doesn't make sense at all. I'm pretty sure next time someone tries to take over a plane with a razor blade, it's not gunna go down like it did today. Grrrrrr

Unhappy Deepest Sympathies

I would like to add to the numerous responses here and offer my deepest condolences to the people of the USA after the events yesterday. Words cannot describe the shock, horror and absolute disgust at seeing these terrible images on the news here.

My thoughts go out to all those people that have been affected in any way by the events of 9/11. London has long since been a traget for terrorism and I know personally of the pain, suffering and fear that this kind of event will cause.

I hope in my heart that the people responsible for these attrocities will be found and brought to justice, though I know that this will never heal the emotional and psychological scars that this will leave behind. It is clear that New York will never be quite the same again, I only hope that those people injured and being treated in hospital will receive all the care an attention they need right now.

Look after one another right now guys, I know that anger is plentiful but the important thing is to really take care of those people that you love and respect. If this has taught us one thing, then it is to cherish those people dear to you.

I work for an ameircan company in London and I can see around me how far reaching this devastation is. I hope those people responsible are truly frightened today, they deserve to spend the rest of their lives in fear.

My thoughts go out to you all.

Kind regards,

Steve.

Wow, in this day and age it just seems impossible four planes could be hijacked in one day and the world trade center reduced to rubble, WTC 1,2,7 and they are endanger of losing 5,6, and the near Marriot Hotel, all long ago evacuated, but this is America, this sort of thing brings us together and makes us stronger, we will overcome this cowardly act by terrorists. bin Laden 3 weeks ago said that an uprecented (sp?) attack on USA interests would occur, was this it??? I hope this gives us something to capture bin Laden and his cronies and stop terrorism, but as this as America and this attack was ment to show that we arent as strong as we think we are, well i just hope we go back and rebuild those towers...TALLER, to show that we rise above ait and terrorists cant win

We've had reason to capture Bin Ladin for a long time. Check the FBI top ten most wanted. He's wanted for the US Embassy bombings in Africa a year ago. He's a bastard even if he has nothing to do with this. I like how Bush said that we'll punish the people who did this and the country who's hiding him...basically he said either turn over Bin Ladin or your country will be toast.

Okay, pardon my launguage and delete this mods if its that bad, but i think this is acceptable now. I can't believe those stupid *****ers who r dancing around and partying. How would they like it if we killed 50,000 people in ther country, i dont think they'd be acting like that. Anyway, i hope we go to war over this, if we do then the cowardly *******s who keep bombing us will be toasted. We could have almost every country as an allie (sp?) for this reason. My condolences to the victims family's. I hope Vin laden and any other terrorists will we handed over or else that country will be whipped for this. i can't believe they leveled two of what was the tallest buildings in the world with PEOPLE in them. this sickens me. i threw up in school when i saw the second tower collapse live.

Unhappy

I still have difficulty believing what happened yesterday morning. Even in a small tourist town on the West Coast, everyone is in shock. I first heard out about it when my mom called from her cell phone and told us to turn on the T.V. to ABC. I was in complete shock for the first couple of minutes (this was right before the first tower collapsed). At school, every single TV on the campus was turned to one of 34 different channels that were broadcasting the news. The way the attack was conducted sickened me. To use a commercial aircraft, with tens of innocent people aboard as an airborn bomb is subhuman. It's what the Nazis would have done. It's comparable to building a huge bomb, filling it with civilians, men, women, and children, and launching it at a huge building at speeds of hundred of miles per hour. It's just disgusting.
Franklin Roosevelt called December 7th "A day which will live in infamy". The word "Infamy" was the headline of the local paper. This day will, indeed, live in infamy. If the people who commited this horrible act will not give themselves up, then they should be prepared to feel the full military might of the civilized world.

Unhappy "FOREVER IN OUR HEART FOREVER ON OUR MINDS"

I still can't believe that anyone would ever want to do this to all of these innocent people... And New York City will never be the same to me because my favorite place to visit will not be there anymore... I had the chance to go to NYC a few weekends ago and i decided not to because it could wait till i had more money to spend there and i wanted to go with a few friends and they wouldnt be able to make it anyways.... so i will never see those 2 magnifigent buildings in person again and i will never be able to go up to the 107th floor to see the great view it had from it .. You could see for miles from it on a clear day...

Then we have the other country's cheering and throwing candy because of what has happened here... I dont know about any of you but i have never cheered when there have been explosions or bombings in any country because i think when they bomb they usually just kill the innocent people not the people that are to blame .. When the USA finds out who did this to us i hope they go after the person/persons responsible for this but not the innocent people that live in that country and if it does turn into a war i hope when everything is done that the USA does not send money over for them to rebuild like we have done before....

Also i have seen alot of things about giving blood the kind they need the most it says is Type O because it can be used in almost everyone but i hope when this is all over people do not stop giving blood because the next disaster they might not have enough blood on hand because it takes a few days to have the blood tested for diseases I have not gave blood yet because our local red cross has not had a day to do it yet but will be in the next few days

Rest In Peace

Well, I guess now that we know that the fourth plane south of Pittsburg crashed in a field was headed for Air Force One or the U.S. Capital, we believe that a heroic effort led off on that plane to take control (which I believed from day 1) and crash it into the ground. Also the nationalities of many of the hijackers has been revealed as SAUDI and EGYPTIAN NATIONALS, the death toll is no being said at about 30,000 estimated, which i think may be an under-estimate, but now we also know that much of the second tower was evacuated, and the celebrating Palestinians, no more, in efforts to repair their image, i just saw on CNN the Palestinians were holding signs, 'we grieve with you we pray for you. your loss is our loss' but it doesnt make up for what happened on Tuesday and those 12 year olds shooting ak47s into the sky, also i think there was two survivors in one of the wtc planes a sister and her daughter, and her brother inside the building also survived (Note: The brother in the building survive for sure, it sounded like the sister and daughter in the plane did, but they may not have)

what if this is only the first stike? I hope not.

As any rate, i feel i can say (without hyperbole) that America will never be the same. Ever again. No matter what happens, our security, our 3000 mile-wide moats, have been taken away. our own vehicles have been used against us, and the time of living an illusion must go. 911 day. The world has changed forever.
nostradamus even predicted this. Two brothers torwm apark by chaos-- this is the WTC
while the fortress endures- this means the pentagon, it was hit but wasnt desroyed
there is a lot more to this prediction, i know because i have read the whole thing before. It mentions the NEW CITY will be something i forget, but it mentions New City, that is torwds New York City, and then the third great war will begin.
Expect WWIII soon, also nostradamus predictid WWIII will last 7 1/2 years

also we cant use nuclear weopons unless we go into a WorldWar. the radiations would spread to Russia and we dont want that cause they would launch there nukes at us. Also back to nostradamon, for WWIII he predicted that some middle eastern country will get there hands on a nuke and launch it into the medditerrannien sea on accident, killing ALL fish and plant life in there. Also he said the world will be in ruins after this war, but when it ends the world will come too peace. this is NOT a lie.

Nostradomas....how about Coaladomus?

He preditcted that you guys need to shut the hell up about 400 year old prophecy's. He also said that talking about that only adds unneccisary fear to an already fearful situation. Maybe we will findout that Coaladomus was wrong when the whole world in in ruins, but I doubt any of us will care after that. If you have the balls to put that kind of crap on this page then you should get some water, grab a can of beans, buy a gun, and head into the mountains. SAVE YOURSELVES EVERYONE!!!

i feel it necessary to say that the Nostradamus quote i posted ended being a hoax. it wasnt perpetrated by myself, but i received it under the assumption it was true. i'll go back and edit, but there's already another thread for this discussion.

i agologize for any fear or anxiety caused by this mistake.

yes, the whole entire Nostradamus bit is a complete and total fabrication, and isn't true in the least. More info on it here:

Additionally, I don't think we'll hit the 30,000 mark in casualties. 15-20,000 is a possibility though. But it was still early, and a lot of offices had not had their full staffs come in yet (according to several people that were in the building). Additionally you had 20 minutes between planes, and an hour after the second for people to get out, and many, many did.

But it is still tragic that pretty much anyone on the floors where the planes were hit were killed instantly, and those above were trapped with no real chance for escape. My heart grieves for all of them.
