Movies Held Off Due To Terrorism

First off, all Spiderman trailers and posters have been removed due to featuring the Trade Centers. Next, Collateral Damage has been moved back. Also, I am very dissappointed with this one, Big Trouble due out in a week has been moved to next year! This is because of one scene with a bomb on a plane. Also, Independence Day, X-Files, and The Peacemaker are not being shown on television.

Ok, I can understand Spiderman, ID4, and The Peacemaker, but why push back Big Trouble and Collateral Damage just for some scenes that hint at some form of violence. What do you think?

It is the right and prudent thing to do at this moment but I suspect they will be released in time.

The scenes we saw Tuesday reminded me so much of the movie "Armageddon". It was eeriely similar.

Unhappy

Look at all these movies...We actually pay to see things like that. How can we say we are better than people who do it? We pay money to see it happen.

Boo freakin hoo. These are MOVIES you are talking about! Do you know how petty u sound crying over movies u arent going to see because it was delayed a few weeks or months. There are families who will NEVER see their loved ones again, EVER! Im not trying to be overly mean, but this pisses me off, you care more about movies than people, and Im sure the next post will be WHEN WILL A MOVIE ABOUT THIS BE MADE.

Oh yeah...talk about families...How the f*&^ would you like that to happen, then see Tim Allen or Arnold Schwennegger raking in millions for portraying it.

Petty--please...look it up. How in the world is it being petty to ask them to stop making movies that are corrupting are youth. Try teaching. See how influenced the students are by everything they see in the outside world.

I'm glad something pisses you off. You are finally acting like a human.

Oops...you were on my side, eh? I just read it carefully. I apologize. I just got fired up. My sincere apologies. I do stand by that opinion for all others who want movies to be shown.

Enough of this...I will go to bed now. I need a break from this.

while i don't want to get into a free speech debate (particularly regarding whether movies 'corrupt' our youth), i do feel a need to express my sorrow over all these movies being pushed back.

These movies are not being pushed back out of a fear of national security; they are being pushed back out of respect for the tragedy. While i understand this position, I cannot agree with it. In general, I think that pushing back release dates and sporting events merely give in to the terrorists. We are showing that they have gotten to us. They have halted the country.

I argue that sporting events and movies should continue this weekend. We should show the terrorists that they cannot, under any circumstances, halt the American way. I don't think any of the some 5,000 people that have passed on would want our lives to totally stop because of it. This whole war is about symbolism. We can mourn, and should mourn, but we should also symbolically show that America is still going on. This is why we should continue playing our sports, and going on with our lives.

Secondly, in regards to movies that involve bombings/terrorism:

1) movies can spark debate and reflection. They are universal images we can join in on. Movies about terrorism are never moreso relevent than they are today, even if they are 'action' movies. Why? Because we see them, and they can make us think not only about world issues but about what we see as entertainment.

2) some movies, like ID4, should be seen around this time. A movie like ID4, about facing insurmountable odds againt an invisible enemy and facing up to the challenge, can really be comforting and inspiring (I am dead serious).

I just think that halting things like this simply serve to further the terrorist's purpose.

Well, the reason I know Collateral Damage was pushed back was because of this: The movie revolves around Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to get his revenge on the TERRORISTS who blew up a building that his wife and daughter were in. Sound familiar to the attacks? and how can you say that a Schwarzenegger movie has only a "few" violent scenes? Name one, besides Jingle All The Way or any other kids movie of his, that doesn't have many action scenes?

I've never heard of Big Trouble, so I don't know anything about it, but it has a scene with a BOMB on a PLANE. Hmmmm....planes....bombs....sound familiar?

I didn't know about Collateral Damage. So, I can kind of understand that, but Big Trouble probably depicts little violence because it's a comedy. I mean, Spiderman is still open and that shows villains attacking NY. Rush Hour 2 features bombs and explosions, but no one is shutting that down or condemning it. I would think where the bomb comes into play in Big Trouble would be similar to Rush Hour 2's violence.

Well...Jingle all the Way had some violence in it--trying to get Turbo Man at any cost (-:

I also just found out that the Men in Black 2 climax takes place at the WTC. That will be re-written and not effect the opening date.

I've seen on TV and in the commercials that had been airing for Colateral Damage. I don't think it would have been a good idea at all to release this movie which shows a bomb going off on the ground just outside a skyscraper. Big Trouble, the movie starring Tim Allen may be a comedy but it has a scene that has some sort of bomb on a plane as the movies climax. america would not want to see a movie with that, this soon after the terrorist attack. I also heard that a movie that was going to be made but fortunatly had not started shooting yet will not be made or will recieve a major plot change. The movie was going to feature Jackie Chan posing to be a window washer at of all places the World Trade Center. He was going to be some sort of secret agent for the government pretending to be the window washer trying to uncover a plot to blow up the Statue of Liberty. As coincidental as this may seem, I'm not making this up. Thank God for the company that was going to make this movie, that they had not started to shoot the movie yet. there would ne way this movie could ever have been released becuase of the plot. In the case of Colateral Damage and Big Trouble, those movies will one day be able to come out once the fear and anger have subsided some. Also, some other movies are being delayed. Training Day with Denzel Washington is delayed due to the attacks, not becuase of plot content, but becuase of wall to wall coverage of the attacks. Many movies have not been able to advertise on national TV the last few days or will likely be able to for a few more.

Spiderman could actually re-edit the scenes with the towers towards imaginary buildings, since it is computer animation, and create an effect that would be less offensive.
