I'm not scared, because only about 7 people have actually gotten anthrax. If this was or becomes a major outbreak, then I think I'd be scared, but it isn't, so I'm not too worried.

No, because it's not likely I will ever come in contact with it.

It's just the insane media that is hyping it up. I refuse to watch anymore of news shows because of rediculous amount of panic they try to induce. I now only watch the Daily Show for news, it's not a great source but it's funny. And that's what we need instead of panic.

The media always makes things worse than they really are. I don't watch the news either, im sick of hearing the same thing over and over again. One more thing, thanks for keeping this is the general talk forum Erik.

I am not scared of Anthrax. It's easily treatable with something as simple as Pennicilin. Also, the Anthrax is being mailed to famous people. I have my theories about who did this, and I mainly suspect the "Black Helicopter anti-government gun rights freaks". And natruallly occuring Anthrax? Not scared at all!

It's the same number of normal cases, except they are being sensationalized!

I was scared, until I learned that 6 or 7 peeps got it. Then I am like, "Does the media have anything else to do?" I agree Kraken, it, like coaster accidents, is being sensationalized. If the attacks hadn't have happened, the media probably wouldn't do anything with it.

It is really nothing to be scared of yet unless you have reason to believe you will come in contact with it (working at post office etc..)I'm still scared silly to go on planes though.

I'm not frightened one bit by the anthrax threat. For one thing, the threat has always been there, but now it's getting wide media exposure. Secondly, that exposure has been blown wildly out of proportion - only 7 people out of the 280m people in the USA have contracted the illness - about 20 times that number probably die on US roads every day!

The media in England have been the same as the US - hyping everything up to sell papers and get TV ratings instead of reporting the facts. Some of the stuff has been laughable, such as advising people to buy gas masks. They're useless unless you wear them 24-7!

ummm. no. They are accually not hyping it well the people are making it hyped. On this very wierd and funny radio thing they know people who are olice and each police officer has gotten like 12 false alarms. There was a person who called a false alarm. the person brought the mail in ate pizza on top of the mail parmazon cheese fell on the mail The person saw it banned the house thinking it was anthrax! LOL! Stupid person!

2. There is no reason to send an anthrax threat to me, I'm not famous

Things to remember:

Anthrax is NOT contagious. can't be spread person-to-person, you must come in direct contact.

Though anthrax is relatively easy to come by (from the perspective of a terrorist group), it is exceedingly difficult to get it up to weapons-grade antrhax.

On top of that, delivering such anthrax would be nearly impossible.

no my friends, we have much more to fear from small pox and chemical weapons than from anthrax.

No im not afraid. Unless your a big news anchor or media worker you shouldent worry. Im sure the people in the media are being more cautious with the mail now so I wouldent worry to much. Alot of people are making hoax calls claiming they recieved white powder in their mail. The wane county (biggest county in MI) police dept said they recieve 2000 calls a day from people claiming to have powder in their mail. Its a shame some people want attention and are trying to use this time of tradgety to get 15 min of fame. And some non-terrorist extreamist groups are using this as an excuse to attack and scare people, 2 abortion clinics in MI recieved letters w/ white powder and a letter saying they have been infected. I definatly do not think terrorists were behind that. I am pro-life but I think its horrible that people would do such a thing like that. Hopefully this war will be over soon and life can go back to normal, though it will never be the same.
Ive heard that your chances or getting anthrax were like getting hit by lightning twice in the same day.

It is a thing that we should be on our guard of, but I don't think we need to call in the biohazard teams everytime we notice a white powder. The media does blow it out of proportion. 1 person has died in a nation of 270,000,000 or so. Plus, I remember hearing this one good point. 20,000 people die every year from the flu, and only 1 person from antrax.

I am not scared. The only people that could have a legitimate base for their fears would be

A. People who work in major mailrooms
or
B. Important bigshots

I don't even think it is the terrorists that we are thinking about that are doing this. I believe it is a right wing extremist. Jusst look at the targets: Sen. Daschle(D), Dan Rather(known for being a Bush basher), Tom Brokaw(See Dan Rather) and the magazine company, when magazines are usually liberal. I am a republican, and it is people like this that make us look bad.

Scared? Why? I think ANTHRAX was one of the best metal bands in the mid-late 80's. Thier early stuff was original But I believe it was 1987's "Among the Living" that was thier breakout (no pun) disc. although the title "Spreading the Disease" disc is kinda eerie in retrospect even if it was made in 1985 **** Seriously, No I am not afraid of the virus BECAUSE only the inhaled form of it where the spores get on the lungs is deadly. The touch strain can be treated with antibiotics & they seem to be attacking the news/media & government. - P.S. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting Anthrax (unless you buy it @ CD now or Best Buy )

Well, living in Macomb County there kid (Macomb County is north of Detroit) and with my cousin one of Detroit's Finest (Don't ask how many peeps hes shot...lol Detroiters know what I'm talking about) I can say they do get a few calls a day, but 2000 is a slight, i mean HUGE exasperation. If you watch Channel 7 or 4 or even 2 you only hear of aout 4 or 5 letters a day. Abortion clinics across the country have gotten letters with the *anthrax* in them.

BTW, if you are struck by lightning you get struck millions of times in about a few nanoseconds.

Ohh, and Pennicilin is no longer a cure all for a disease or virus, we could be on the verge of a major disease outbreak because viruses such as smallpox or other diseases have built up an immunity to our current antibiotics, and really its because of our (and by our I mean your) stupidity. When you go to the doctor and get an antibiotic and start to feel better, please don't stop taking the antibiotic. The virus will only build up an immunity to the antibiotic and come back stronger and you will need a stronger antibiotic, so please lets not be stupid.

The Anthrax vaccine is made in Lansing, Michigan, and is not proven to be effective either, the FDA refuses to let it be given to the public becauseit is too inconsistent and has bad side effects a good portion of the time.

The skin form is the EXACT same thing as the inhaled form, with the skin the spores just get on your skin, but to get the inhaled form all you have to do is inhale the EXACT same spores so the *I'm not scared because its only skin anthrax* message is totally defeated, because altough it doesnt kill you, you could still inhale the spores and get the inhaled anthrax.

I think the people doing this are anti-liberal radicals. The people who are all " You can't take our guns away! We will fight the evil government! The United Nations will take over the world!". You know, racist malitia groups, and freak like the Klu Klux Klan.

First off I live in a tiny town in northern Arizona. But even if I worked at a post office in Phoenix I would not be afraid!

Second, 95% or so of the suspected Anthrax cases have proven to be hoaxes.

P.S.- I don't know how I thought of this, or why. maybe it came to me in a dream. Anyway, what if someone got a small brown box, about 3X3X3, and put a mouse trap inside. Then put a picece of metal, about 1/3 the size of the area of the box on the trap. Attach a piece of string to the latch and connect it to the lid of the box. Finally, fill the box with flour and seal the box.

Any idea what would happen if that box were opened? BOOM! Flour everywhere. It would causes masive panic. Everyone would think it was anthrax and run for their lives. Several people would probably be trampled to death in the massive stampede that is trying to escape the building.

Note: DON'T EVEN THINK OF TRYING THIS! THIS TYPE OF HOAX IS NOT FUNNY! THERE ARE ALSO SERIOUS PENALTIES, INCLUDING A TEN YEAR OR MORE JAIL TERM FOR ANYONE MAKING ANTRAX HOAXES.

If these Anthrax attacks had happend months ago. It probably wouldn't have made the news. You are more at risk of getting killed doing what we all love, ridding coasters then you are of an Anthrax death. Just a thought it is just like getting the flu take some pills.
This kind of thing only makes the USA more determined to fight the war. Dumb thing to go around and fight Americans we will kick your A**. Go USA.
