| | | Those women should have been killed.
How stupid and arrogant of them to actually go to such a fundamentalist Muslim country and try to convert people to their religion, the "correct" religion, Christianity.
Everyone should keep religion to themselves. They knew it wasn't smart to go there in the first place, so they shouldn't be crying that they were held captive. They got lucky this time. |

i'm not a huge fan of those that attempt to convert others to their religion, but i respect their right to do it. in fact, i beleive that the freedom of expression is a universal right. so in a sense, what they did was (while stupid practically) noble in a sense.
of course, some may call this american 'arrogance.' "Who are you to 'force' your ideas of freedoms on other peoples! Let them live how they want!" And, of course, i agree. cept no one has ever bothered to actually ask the people of afghanistan what they want, since the taliban forcibly wrested control five years ago. and this is what i'm in favor of. but i digress.

| | | The Taliban did not release the missionaries, they were rescued by a northern alliance general or something like that. They actually tried to move the missionaries to Kandahar, but were run up by the northern alliance and freed. The missionaries were then airlifted out to Pakistan.

They got lucky this time. | They never said their religeon was correct, they were simply trying to spread their ideas. There is nothing wrong with this. They aren't forcing anybody to change to Christianity, they were just telling people about it. In Ammerica, anyone can preach their ideas, and people should be able to have their own religeons throughout the world! Your statement makes no sense at all, and wishing death upon Americans is simply horrible and hateful. I'm shocked.

You're right, people should have the right to believe anything they want to, but that does not change the fact that I hate people who try to preach their own religions. Believe what you want, and keep your mouth shut. You shouldn't try to go around trying to change people's minds. This is something missionaries do. This has happened throughout history, and it hardly ever turns out being a good thing. And I seriously doubt that people in those countries will convert to Christianity.
And about your last statement. I don't really care if it's "horrible and hateful" to wish death upon Americans. I find they did something really stupid, and that is what I believe. Sorry if you don't agree with me, but there are things wrong with what you said too.
Is it okay to wish death to people who aren't Americans? I guess what would depend on whether you believe in the death pentalty, or you want terrorists to die, but I don't know you. |

| | | I don't agree with saying they deserve to die - IMHO that's far too strong a statement. But I also believe that missionaries don't just tell people about Catholicism, and let them decide themselves. A lot of the time they practically force it down people's throats, which is wrong.
