The United States should force Israel and PLO to fall into line

I think trhe united states should force israel and palestine to fall in line and the us should go in and keep the peace there. because if we can solve the problem in israel, we could do much by solving this prblem because others would see and feel like the usa isnt against muslims. what do you think?

I'm not sure if a US-led peace enforcement mission is the best idea.

It would actually anger the palestinians (and indeed the muslim world), because it would be unprecedented US intervention. it would also anger the israels who, with such a powerful army, really feel they can police themselves. and i'm not sure what good US military intervention would do, anyway.

However, i beleive the current situation is too far gone anyway. The Israeli government has cut all ties with Arafat. They won't deal with him, and they're preaparing to root out Hamas and Islamic Jihad (i THINK that's the name) as terrorist organizations. I'm not sure how much we can do now.

I think that any solution to this problem can't involve us or un military intervention. we need to sit down at the negotiating table and pretty much reverse our policies on a palestinian state. we should support it, in other words. this will severly anger the Israelis, but its the only way to please the palestinians, and i happen to agree with it.

of course, the Israelis will not allow this to happen (they think its giving in to terrorists), which is why there will probably NEVER be peace.

Yes, it is hard for the US in the middle east. They have funded Isreal to the tune of tens of milions of dollars, and in doing so have alienated the Palestinians completely. I don't think either side would take kindly to any more US intervention.

If we take action against the PLO, then the world's Muslims will get even madder at us. But the U.S. has one of, if not the, largest Jewish populations of any country, and action against Israel wouldn't be the best of choices. I think the best thing we can do is try to work through this peacefully, no matter how long it takes.

I don't mean bomb them, I think we could get them to settle and I think Israel is eager for it and the PLO probably is too. I think that they both want peace, but don't want to look weak to the others, Israel has its settlements in the West Bank and Gaza and heavily controls Palestinians in those areas and only the Israeli Army could defend them, there would be no escape. The Israelis could easily crush the PLO, but would anger other Muslim States and Hussein, who Israelis fear. So all it really is is a matter of who will back down first, and the US could get them to back down together.
