The INS

Now, this is an absolutely true story!

One of the hijackers, Muhammed Atta, who was on board one of the planes that flew into the WTC, applied to the INS for a visa a few months before he died. I'm not sure what sort of visa it was, but his application has just been processed.

Guess what? His visa application was granted! As unbelievable as it sounds, one of the perpetrators of the worst terrorist attack in the US would have been living there perfectly legally had he not died on Sept. 11th. I know big beauracracies (sp?) such as the INS often make errors, but this particular one is a whopper!

It also raises the question of how stringent the US now is on immigration. If a dead terrorist can be granted permission to stay, then how many people like him have applied, also been given the OK, and are now working legally in the USA?
