Question risk rater?!?!?!?!?

<begin rant>
In case you haven't heard chief of Homeland Security Tom Ridge released a new "Terrorist attack risk meter" a meter that is used to show at what risk an area is for terrorist attack that day.

Niw I don't want to be mean but, what kind of idots does he take us for? Has the government somehow gained the abilty to predict terrorist attacks just as meteorologists predict the weather? I think this has to be one of the dumbest things i have heard in a long time. Soon we may be hearing "Today will be cloudy and 60 degrees with a high risk of terrorist attack"
<end rant>

I have to agree- kinda dumb! 9-11 hit us by surprise! I don't think they will ever predict right! We just have to be ready for anything and keep our eyes open!

Well, people will be idiots... It reminds me of the "forest fire / wildfire" risk meters, but those at least are based on more concrete factors. I suppose this could be based on things like if we've received any "credible threats", current violence worldwide, violence directed at the US, etc... Ah well, I'm not going to worry about it.

i give them credit. the govt gets blasted for doing nothing, then they get blasted for doing something. and it goes on and on. i do think the color-coated risk level is a bit silly, but its a response to the criticism that the govt was being to 'vague and confusing' with its terror alerts. this is designed to clarify it.

the system doesn't claim to predict attacks. its merely meant to indicate if there's any intelligence currently indicating that an attack might take place, taking into account the reliability, veracity, and soundness of the intelligence.

It is so dumb, it has something to do with colors.

I think it is a scale of how much of a threat there is.

White Small or no chance of attack
Yellow Small chance of attack
Green Medium chace of attack
Orange Very possible chance of attack
Red Extremely good chance of attack
