Exclamation Walt Disney World named 'Prime Terrorist Target'

I'm sure you've all been hearing about the recent rise in terrorist threats (and probably sick of hearing about it too.) But, the Orlando area, and more specifically, Walt Disney World, has been called a top terrorist target.

I've heard this mentioned on the news somewhere, but I don't have an official source. Either way, you know its pretty much true.

Read this post off of the wdwmagic.com boards:

Quote:
In my current job (due to people feeling I'm creative) I was asked to evaluate threats to data centers for clients on the East Coast. In this role we had lots of discussions about what terrorists would attack and why; trying to think from their point of view of wanting to. We rated data center location based on how much economic strain, panic/fear, strategic harm, or retaliation value would be realized. Orlando, and specifically Disney World, came up high on the list for panic. When we matrixed attack reasons against weapon (biologic, chemical, large bomb, small bomb, empty threat, nuclear) Disney World came up high for empty threat, biologic, chemical, and small bomb. I don't want to go into the reasoning behind the other three, but with the objective to generate panic and fear, the empty threat had the biggest bang for the buck since Disney World is an optional location vs. NYC which is considered an essential location (number of residents, number of employees, etc.).

Moving to Attack on America...

I've heard it in passing, but nothing so serious that anything is really being done other than a mention here and there. There are literally dozens upon dozens of areas that are "prime targets" only because of the crowds they draw and the economic potential they exhibit -- malls, sporting events, and so forth. As far as I know, this is only an "evaluation" of whether a spot would make a decent target or not, not an actual threat or anything. Nothing to be concerned about, in my opinion.

People are saying how all of these warnings are making them sound less credible each time nothing happens, but really, they are doing SOME good because we haven't had another terrorist attack since September 11th (unless you count the anthrax in the mail, which killed like 3 people?).
Actually, I think that each threat that the government informs us about is credible or else they wouldn't say there was a chance. Here's something t worry about: A truck carrying cyanide was hijacked in Mexico. They recovered the truck but an unspecified amount of cyanide was missing. Also, they have just administered a warning against another attack on NYC landmarks that sounded pretty serious to me. There's a CHANCE that WDW could get attacked, but I think we need to concentrate on ALL the threats instead of just one and take each one seriously.

Whoa! Let's not get everyone in a panic. The threats, as they were explained in the Florida news media, were aimed at the water supply in Orlando, not WDW specifically.

Security measures have been put in place to address this non-specific threat.

It has been reported that WDW is #9 on the terrorist hit list. However, I do not believe that is any reason to panic. Disney security is OK and should prevent most threats. (My wife is a security professional though, and did notice some glaring issues. I won't post them here because you never know who's watching.) You can't worry about it and you can't change plans to go to WDW or anywhere else for that matter or the terrorists tactics are working. I actually intend to move to the Orlando area within the next year and my wife is currently trying to get a job with Disney Security. Obviously, I'm not too concerned. Well, actually, I'm concerned, but I don't let ANYONE (particularly these terrorists) stand in the way of my dreams or my way of life as an American. Besides, Walt would go!

I remember on 9/11 that The Disneyland Resort and Knott's Southern California Resort were closed for two whole days. These year round parks never close except on Christmas Day.

A friend of mine and his wife happened to be at Epcot that day. My friend goes to get a coke and he's informed that,"the park is closed."
"Huh? I just got here! What are you talking about?" The girl just politely repeated that they were to close up ASAP. So my friend thinks that someone is pulling his leg. So him and his wife continue walking thru the middle of the park when they begin to notice EVERYBODY is walking towards them and towards the exit. So now he's like alright I'm gonna find out what's up here. He manages to find someone who was kind enough to explain the situation in NY and that WDW was basically shutting down operations...literally.

Now with that done, they, calmly make way for the exit. Grab a bus and go back to their hotel. Now it's about 11AM. Checkout time for some people. Well guess what, those people who wanted to leave can't because they can't fly home. So they would like to stay. But you also have people who just got into town who are checking in only to find out that they can't get the room they reserved. Snowball effect times 100 here.

Overall he said the management and staff at their hotel did an incredible job of accomidating and/or relocating the people on hand.
