| | | Scooby Doo Dark Ride For the new scooby doo dark ride @ WBMW, Gold Coast, Australia, it is said to be a wild mouse. Take a look at the 2nd picture down on this page. http://thrillnetwork.com/article.php...thread&order=0
The front most track part..... is that another roller coaster or is the new coaster going to be overbanked (which I seriously doubt since it's rumored to be a wild mouse)? What's going on in that picture?

| | | That turn you see is part of the helix on Lethal Weapon - Movie World's SLC, unfortunately, no overbanked turns for this Scooby Doo ride.
The ride is entirely indoors except for the pictures of the openings in the shed, but the shed is large and there is plenty of room for Coaster inside!
It is also said to have Turntable sections of track, which will have some parts of the ride backwards - sounds very interesting, I can't wait until June! |

They have completed the lift structure fully, today there were workmen at the top of it obviously fine tuning the mechanics of the lift mechanism.
Sadly, those holes on the Northern side of the building aren't for the track to exit out of, it is rather just an intricate system of escape walkways, probably for access to block brakes, which Wild Mouse rides traditionally have dozens of (look on Eureka Mountain some time, every second bend has brakes on it).
As for... the trains! At least one has arrived, and is sitting on the transfer track visible under the giant Wild Wild West Poster on the West side of the building. The trains are heavily themed, from what I saw under the plastic wrap, they appear to be rather unobtrusive trains, very low sides. They are themed crazily too, the one I saw had what looked like a Monster version of Thomas the Tank Engine.
Theming is well underway, all the polystyrene from the last update is for theming, basically everything is carved out of that, from the minature castle which you can make out inside the building, to the demon statues which they've made and even the castle walls are made of it!
Anyway, you all want to see the train, so here we are... |

I made a picture of these cars, which were shown at the Interschau 2002 (a 2-yearly exposition/exhibition in Germany about themeparks) and would go to Warner Bros. in Australia for a Mack wild mouse. |

| | | Wow! Thanks for that picture Belgian! That shows much clearly the train. Good to see I was right about there being little in the way of sides to the cars.
This ride will be wicked!!
And while I'm posting, here is a (majorly doctored) picture through the old Graemlins door, showing one of the Gargoyle or monster statues - made out of good old polystyrene!
All this polystyrene theming is making me think - is it possible this ride has been designed to be rebranded and rethemed easily, maybe when a new film comes out that they can use to draw people. The only thing I see stoping them is the trains with all that fancy artwork on them. |

| | Whats new on the site of Scooby Doo, as of Sunday 22nd:
The building is now nearly totally enclosed, the lift is no longer exposed. The only way to see in is a patch beside the lift that hasn't yet been covered. This means that the trackwork inside is complete.
The train in the photo above has been half unwrapped (lol, took them a week and a half to do this ). The theming is being worked on.
The front entrance has been slightly added to, with some woodwork before the front goes on. The ride will be keeping the original gremlins queue.
Also, while on Lethal Weapon, I noticed that a lot of packaged "items" in that junk land between Lethal Weapon and Wild Wild West. After four rides on Lethal Weapon to keep checking it out (don't worry, I wasn't sitting through the pre-ride video at all - they were letting you queue for the trains without exiting the ride) as well as a few rides on Wild Wild West, I was certain that they were the trains for the ride. There was a total of 17 or so of them out there (Tthey were partially covered by shipping containers, so there could be more), and so that means theres probably about 18-20 of them in total, counting the one/s inside the building.
I'll put the photos on TN later this week, so keep an eye out. |

| | | Those trains are creepy! Anyway this ride sounds awesome (for a family ride). More should be like this, a mixture of coaster and haunted house. Dark rides don't need to be fast. I don't that scenery is polystyrene, that material gives off nasty fumes in a fire, they would never use it in a ride like that. Too many people would injured or killed by fumes alone. |

| | | Actually, you'd be surprised. You could see the workmen out the back carving up the Polystyrene. Most of the theming is polystyrene. I haven't seen the gargoyles close up yet, but seeing as the "antiquated" walls and much of the other theming that they've got around the place is polystyene, I don't see why it'd be different.
Also, I have found out where the train design comes from. Incidently enough, the whole story behind the movie is an abandoned amusement park. The "goblin" train will make appearances in the movie. Also, this puts the rides name into perspective much better now - seeing as it is now somewhat relevant to the movie.
EDIT: I just found out the official name for the train design is "Jester Cars". |

| | | it still seems really unlikely since you can't really fireproof it that well. If you ever burn it the smell is really nasty. |

| | Somehow I don't think Movie World are expecting the ride to catch fire any time soon. You'd actually be surprised how much polystyrene is used for theming in parks. If the guests can't touch it, then it doesn't need to be made out of the "real thing" (be it metal, rock or wood, paint it and it looks like anything).
Anyway, I was at the park today. Before you click the link to the picture below, I'll warn you that this will redefine theming as you know Movie World knows it as. This is one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen, and its better in person than in a compressed little image.
Comments below. This ride opens in less than a month (June 17 according to my sources, nothing official yet though), and I'm starting to think I'm the only one who actually cares about it.
As I overheard a guy say to his family today, "I've got a feeling that ride will be very good." |

| | | Skye you cant be serious. The polystyrene used in the ride isnt the stuff they make esky's out of. This is treated with fire retardent material. I have seen a blow torch put on it and it doesnt light up. There are many stages that need to ticked off before a ride like this gets the green lgiht for opening. Believe me from my sources the last thing you will need to worry about is the ride catching fire. You will be too worried about hanging on. |

| | Well, it is official now, June 17 to coincide with the release of the movie, which also takes place at Movie World.
I've put a press release at www.ThrillNetwork.com with some interesting artwork. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
