Hypersonic reconstruction

Well since we know that hypersonic is being adjusted, might as well consider that good enough for the new construction forum. In 16 days when the park opens ill be sure to get pics. later

Maybe it will actually be over 200 feet tall now. Then PKI will no longer be the only Paramount Park with a hyper. I think it would be cool if Hypersonic XLC is a hyper because the word hyper is in the name. It's at about 180 feet right now. I rode it this summer and it's a great ride. Best launch I've ever been on. Could be longer though.

I don't think they're gonna be making it taller. I think they're going to make the slope at the top of the first hill more gradual. It might end up being like Dodonpa where the slope is not as pointed as XLC. But they might make it taller. Yes, it could "ruin" the ride, but I think it's better to get rid of some extreme airtime rather than let the ride tear itself apart like it was doing (or so they have me believe).

I heard you get flung over the top of the spike. That would be really cool.

You're correct on your information. The apex of the ride's hill will be evened out more gradually to eliminate the "pointy" and "sharp" curvature of the peak. And to remove all other rumors, the ride's track length will NOT be extended, nor will the newly refurbished "tower" exceed 200 FT in height.

The tower will not be made higher but lower and probably more gradual from what I remember from Stan. SkeeJ, this comes from what Stan said at WCS3 at KBF.

It is also rumored that they are adding magnetic brakes like Dodonpa and wheels at the top of the crest to nudge it along if it happens to lose momentum.

I think this will make for an interesting ride. I got to ride it last year and the airtime was incredible. Although it will be gone, I think a longer vertical descent will be very cool.

I drove by PKD a few days ago and I can report that XLC is still the same. There is no crane in sight. If they were going to raise it they would have a crane somewhere. I think they might (gasp!) slow it down a bit. The ride could still crest the hill if they lowered the speed a few MPH. I hope they don't do much to the ride as it kicks major butt now. I did read that PKD wants the ride to be more consistent (sp) in it's daily operation. Whatever they do, XLC will still rock.

I do not believe they are going to modify the hill any, at least that would truly shock me if they did. I believe, as others do, that this will be maintenance and computer work for the system to become more efficient in operation. Remember this coaster was meant to run 4 trains in 17 seconds of time. It never achieved this opening season, thus the projected ride capacity for the ride was drastically lowered, in turn causing long wait times for a 17 second blast.

I'll be there in roughly 8 hours, I'll report back anything that I see which might be beneficial to the "rumors" that are floating around.

I am pretty sure that if anything, Paramount's will simply flatten the top of the tower and make the crest a little more gradual. If not, then it is most likely just system improvments.
I definatly do NOT think it will be made taller.

Well I went yesterday and contrary to some peeps belief about physical modifications to the vertical spike...that is a no go. According to the notice at each ticket booth in the park, it states that they have been "working diligently" with the designer of the coaster in order to fix several of the problems with the coaster, including the excessive downtime which it suffers from.

They are simply trying to get the ride reliable, they aren't modifying the actual course.

It also stated that they worked throughout the winter on it, and if they were to do any physical changes to the coaster, they would have done it off season. So don't expect any such thing to occur. I'd just be happy to ride it again.

Shame on any PKD fanatics for not being at the park yesterday, it was PERFECT, if a hint on the chilly side.

they are probably just lowering the launch speed theres no way the top is being made more gradual.

I was there a few days ago and the guard said that they're working on the final brake run - smoothing it out...
