My opinon is well informed, I worked in various roles and positions throughout SFOG. I know about this ride and others. So far I haven't seen any proof that it will be modified. It's another rumor than gets around so much people take it for truth.

SFGAm 2003 Construction Thread

Many people are inclined to believe that a B&M Flyer, or A B&M Coaster will be going into SFGAm for this upcoming season. Rumors (Meaning not necissarily true...) point to Shockwave being removed for this new attraction. Post updates and comments on SFGAm's 2003 offseason here.

While I don't mind the idea of getting a B&M Flyer, putting it in the place of Shockwave would be sort of a waste. I'm not trying to be jaded, but removing a 170ft. coaster and installing something closer to 100ft. seems like we would be getting ripped off, despite the fact that a 100ft. B&M Flyer would probably blow away the 170ft. Shockwave.

My idea for Shockwave's spot: Install an Arrow 4D of similar height. Shockwave doesn't even take up all of the space that it is allocated, so there is more than enough room for one. Despite all of the problems that X has had it is still a great coaster, and an Arrow 4D would really draw the crowds. Plus, an Arrow 4D (or even a B&M Flyer, for that matter) would round out SFGAm's coaster collection quite nicely.

Realistically, I think that SFGAm will take the safer route and build something like a B&M Flyer after the Deja Vu fiasco. The park will not want to have that happen again anytime soon, since it was very bad for PR.

Well the only 4-Ds that will be going out, (if any more) are going to be around 100ft tall. I have no idea why MM's was so huge, but it seems to be how it is going down. I would really like to see an intamin goliath type layout in Shockwaves spot, because that would be sure not to dissapoint. But now that whizzer is staying, or so I hear, we will probably not have that awesome terrain flyer...

I can't say this from personal experience but somebody on thispagecannotbedisplayed says that there was a surveyor in the drop off area looking at Shockwave and who said Shockwave would be gone next year. Everything to me points to Shockwave being removed.

I think that a 4d is now more and more likely, now that x is open again, and if it works, I am almost certain that Arrow/S&S/CCI will make more next year, we could get one where they put X at MM next to Shockwave. I also love people talking about rumors that they have heard about such as the 4ds can only be 100 ft high. We dont know for sure so dont spread rumors.

I also love how Arrow said specifically that the two models that they had to sell for next year were 100ft and 70ft. Get your facts right before you act all high and mighty I want an arrow 4-D as much as the next guy, but I am trying to be realistic.

I'm not the one acting high and mighty here. Where did arrow say thins? If you can send me a link or something i will believe you, otherwise it is a rumor just like shockwave being torn down. All i'm saying is that we dont know ANYTHING even though we like to think we do until the announcement is made.

I'd hate to see anything leave Great America. As happy as I was to hear Whizzer was staying, it now upsets me to think that ShockWave will be possibly gone next year. Even though a flyer would likely be better than ShockWave, it would look weird to replace a 170ft coaster with a slightly over 100ft coaster. I think that by adding a flyer and keeping all their coasters gives SFGAm such a good balance of coaster types. True SFGAm has Demon, but it is not intense in the way ShockWave is. I don't know where they could fit another coaster without tearing down an already existing ride but who knows. We will find out sooner rather than later becuase if they were to start taking down Whizzer on the 11th to make room for a new ride, they would have to start relatively soon in taking down anything else.

Red face

Well if you were wondering where people got these idea's it was at IAAPA last year when Arrow announced that they had two more 4th dimension designs one of which was 100ft in height, and the other was 70ft in height. These designs were up for sale for the 2003 season, and it was rumored that they were bought by Six Flags. I am pretty sure that this was common knowlage, which is why a lot of people have been mentioning it. Dig through the IAAPA reports if you wish, I really don't care enough to make you beleive me. If you don't whatever, I am not trying to trick anyone. Saying something that is wrong, makes you look mistaken. Saying something that is wrong in a sarcastic way makes you look ignorant.

Some rumors going around that Shockwave's chain has been removed. I can't confirm this though.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is that we can't forget about a waterpark. This thing has been in planning forever. Although I don't think they are going to build it, there is always that chance.

I know that i have heard of this before, but it just seems kind of weird Why would they build a 200 ft version and then 2 yrs later bild a 70 ft version. It just seems strange to me, it would be like if B&M's forst flyer was 200 ft and then they built a 70ft one.

Intamin101 is right. Arrow never originally planned for the 4D design to reach 200 ft. The reason that X is so tall (175 ft. w/a 215 ft. drop) is that SFMM really wanted something that would knock peoples socks off. A coaster with rotating cars? Cool! The same coaster having a 215 ft. drop? UNREAL! That is the kind of effect that SFMM wanted, so that's what Arrow delivered. As much as I would love to see another 200 ft. 4D, I think something in the 100-150 ft. range is much more realistic.

As for the 70 ft. design, I believe that it would go in a small park. At 70 ft., it would be as tall as the Whizzer (!), making it the shortest coaster at SFGAm (if you don't count the kiddie coaster). Batman, Iron Wolf and Viper are all 100 ft., so they would almost tower over it. Even the Demon would be much taller, and it is only 90 ft.! A 70 ft. 4D is just too small in my opinion. It would look strange having those huge trains on an almost junior coaster!

Back to the topic, I hope SFGAm makes an announcement sometime soon. As some of you have pointed out, if they want to remove the Shockwave and replace it with another coaster, time is running out. In order to get it done in time the removal will have to start in the next couple weeks, or the new coaster would probably not be ready for opening day.

That is, if SFGAm is getting a new coaster.

That's the same thing I was thinking. Shockwave's site is massive, and if the park extended it out into the parking lot a little more or maybe toward that pond east of the old site (look at the attachment), then they could build a small, but working, waterpark.
