Dreamworld's Nick Central

G'day all!

This can be the place to talk and speculate and all that, about Nickelodeon Central, that is due to open as per usual December 26 - Boxing Day.

There have been no official annoucements about any specific attractions that are to go into the area. Releases have said that it will be a mixture of old and new rides. Obviously any old rides that are reused will be rethemed, and probably given major overhauls. We all want to see a Reptar inverted family coaster, a la PKI, and maybe one of the Thornberries themed small flume ride.

The land is currently in early development stages. There have been a few footers laid, but nothing that would support a ride, just small foundations that may be for a wall.

See you all there over the next few months to watch this seed bloom!

I'll be there tomorrow with a bit of luck. Progress has been a bit slow, as it often is in the inital stages, but I've been told there is a lot of building materials on site, and so they must be ready for some form of vertical construction.

Well, as of Sunday, October 6, the construction has gone ahead quite a lot since last time.

As I said earlier, there are a lot of building materials, some foundation steel, and lots of bricks - not just bessablocks either - they've got some really nice clay bricks, something that we haven't seen used at a theme park since Dreamworld's early days.

They've also put in a big slab of concrete, in the area where the Kenny Koala stage once was. This'll remain an open area, with the Central Cafe running along the left side, and more than likely the main entrance.

Now for the exciting news. They've got a lot of footers over near Tower of Terror's launch track. They are too chunky to be for a regular construction, and too many and too irregularly placed to be a flat ride. I hope you're thinking what I'm thinking. This should be the site of the long rumoured Kiddies/Family coaster.

There is no track or any new steelwork, on site yet. They're repainting the seaplanes ride that was at the old TOT entrance, over in the maintenance area beside Thunderbolt.

That's all from the site. On a side note, Giant Drop's West Tower is, and has been for a few weeks, down. This is the same side that was plagued with problems earlier this year.

the west tower eally would have thought it would b the east east cause it has the extra breaks half way down the decent. well when i went during the winter holidays it was the east tower that was down...mmm ok anyway.

id say richard that there will be a family coaster put there...but hey wouldnt it b great if it was a jr suspended/inverted(whatever u wanna call it) i dont think i would be able to ride it though cause i have long legs and from what ppl have said about the reptar coaster at pki my feet will probabbly tap on the ramp just as the coaster crests the hill...ah well whocares its anoter coaster for australia ey!!!!

West Tower is not having a good year. It has down for a good few months earlier. It is probably getting close to being down more than up this year.

East Tower was taken down whenever possible for Big Brother, I figure the park doesn't want people seeing the house or something stupid while it is on.

The coaster they get will more than likely be the Suspended Rollerskater, and the footers in place seem to hint that.

As of yesterday, they've done some paving of the main entrance, they've also got holes in the ground where they big entrance banner will go. There's more footers in the "Coaster" area. No parts of any description that I could see are within the park yet. They shouldn't be in any hurry to get it in anyway, as the concrete takes quite a while to cure (up to a month) before it can be used.

Though, time will quickly pass them by if they don't get something more vertical happening on site, and I sincerely hope it isn't a rushed effort, like Cyclone's station and theming was.

I can confirm the Vekoma SJC (Suspended Junior Coaster) is a clone of the American 'Reptar' coaster.
Same colors too, yet I've heard a rumor that the track is a little more orange...

The track is bright orange in colour with the supports a nice green. The supports were seen at the base of the Thunderbolts lift hill and the track was spotted at the rear of the park with some shipping containers. It does indeed look like a SJC track but I hope that Richard will post some pics that he took from within the park today.

The track does appear to be a darker yellow in colour. My guess is to make it more "Australian", with the ride green and gold as opposed to green and yellow. This would be supported by a rumour that Dreamworld is trying to make it more similar to the Paramount Nick Centrals, only with an 'Aussie twist'.

They've got a crane on site, they've been using it to build a roof type structure that'll go over by the entrance. It is made from tubular white & light blue steel poles, quite minimalistic and modern. They've further extended the construction site, engulfing now the Carosel and the old (once) Village Green entrance into Tiger Island.

Track is being stored in the maintenance area by Thunderbolt's lift hill. From what it seems, it is just a matter of time until they start going vertical with the coaster.

The construction has skyrocketed ahead over the past week.

Much of the track that was waiting by Thunderbolt has since been installed. They have the station, brake run and the start of the lift hill done as of Sunday.

They've also released the lineup for the rides and attractions to be there December 26. Including the coaster, interactive type things such as a fountain and a walkthrough ball thing, they'll be retheming the Bumper Bowl, Carosel and Seaplanes. And there's going to be a food place open - hopefully adding some variety to their rather mundane selection of fastfood (hotdogs, pizza, mediocre burgers, chicken and fish is basically all they've got at the moment park-wide). Honestly, as long as they get some Krabby Patties (SpongeBob fans will knw what I'm on about). The place will be themed to CatDog, hopefully in the shape of their very cool house (a full scale replica of the Krusty Krab would be much better).

Take a look at www.nickelodeon.com.au/nickcentral for some rather basic details as to what will be coming. December 26 is when it opens officially obviously.

There is a Sponge Bob restaraunt at PKI's Nick Central, but they don't serve Krabby Patties, just stuff like cotton candy, popcorn, and drinks.

ThrillNetwork's main page has an article regarding the ride: http://www.thrillnetwork.com/index.p...rticle&sid=788 including an official photograph of the construction (a bit old though).

As of today, all but the twisting first drop has been erected on Reptar. It is looking quite grand, adding yet another piece of eye-candy to Dreamworld's skyline.

They've started work at remodeling the front to Bumper Bowl, Stadium Foods and that general area. I'm guessing that they'll retheme Stadium Foods to CatDog, as that makes most sense. Hopefully they'll pull off the CatDog house, as I previously mentioned.

West-side is open again on Giant Drop! Very refreshing to see both sides running. Also Wipeout is out of its annual maintenance and thrilling guests again.

See you out there next Sunday!
