| Finland to get GCIi (+ a boomerang)
This just popped up on the RCDB http://www.rcdb.com/locationdetail1004.htm Seems like europe will be getting its first GCI. (i think its our first anyway) Is it me or has Scandinavia's coaster scene exploded in the last few years?

Hmm, a new boomerang? You'd think it's a relocated one. And a GCI!! That's good to know, wonder what the layout will be like.

It says their building 2 new coasters, a steel and a woodie. Either way the layout should be good. Im also wondering what the layout would be.

Sounds cool, hopefully it has a large layout that goes around the whole park. Yippie! about the boomerang though... |

Yeah....... all we need is a new boomerange. But I guess since it is GCli it must have a different layout.

I'm surprised their getting a GCI. Getting a boomerand a wooden coaster the same year just doesn't seem right to me, especailly a GCI since they cost so much. Also, does Vekoma still manufactur the original Boomerang? You'd think the park would just get a used one. |

They have been getting quite a few coasters lately. Intamin invert, Intamin halfpipe, and now this!

Let me clear a few things here as I'm a native Finn. ![]() - The GCI is for 2006, RCDB is wrong this time (and I've mailed Duane about it) - Boomerang is for 2005 and it is indeed a new one. Apparently with newly designed trains (less rattle) and magnetic brakes. - The park getting these coasters isn't Sarkanniemi (the one with the Intamin invert and half pipe) but a two year old park called Power Park. It's basically a hobby project of a Finnish millionaire. He has been building it with a rate of ~5 new rides a year and has apparently switched gears big time. Curiously, the park is located away from the big cities of Southern Finland. |

That makes sense. Now I understand better. I wish I was rich and could run a park as a hobby

Well isn't there going to be an Intamin rocket in scandinavia somewhere too? And Denamrk is part of that region, they just got a floorless.

Intamin rocket (or accelerator as they call them these days) is going to Liseberg, Sweden. The floorless was built by Tivoli in Denmark. Also, Sarkanniemi in Finland is building Zamperla's Volare for next year. In addition to the bigger coasters, there have been smaller additions like Grona Lund's wild mouse and Bonbon-land's Gerstlauer 97-degree Typhoon (which isn't exactly very small to be honest). So yes, you could say that the Nordic (Scandinavia as a term doesn't include Finland and Iceland) coaster scene has somewhat exploded. |

also Balder, Thunder Coaster, Tornado, Half-Pipe and Tulireki (Mack's new fun coaster) have all been built since 2000 not to mention the 2 water coasters Vonkaputous and Super Splash.... Considering before 2000 the area was pretty sparse as far as coasters go that is a pretty damn good record lol

Another GCI is welcome anwhere in my opinion. The more, the better! It says it'll be somewhere around 3,280. That's pretty long and is near the length of Thunderhead. That's a good thing. I hope this coaster is just as fun as TH. The boomerang I am exicted to hear about with all of the new technology in it. Hopefully it'll be smoother. |

Yes! Thank you Jeff via Johnny!! I'm still trying to work out a way to get to this park next year when I'm in Sweden and Norway, but like the person from Finland said, its in the middle of nowhere! ugh... maybe I'll figure something out. I still think this could be the best GCII to date! Last edited by Joseph; 10-20-2005 at 11:53 PM. |

eh, say what you want, but Thunderbird looks like it will have those trademark GCII laterals with a good chance of some serious ejector airtime! It looks like it will be in the running for top GCI along with Thunderhead and the overlooked coaster in the Ozarks :-D

I agree With BoB ThunderBird looks great, looks to have some nice lats and airtime wish I could get over there and ride it lol. I also loved Ozark Wildcat and perfer it over Thunderhead, thunderbird looks to be more Ozarkish which should make it amazing IMO. |

No one has mentioned Lightning Racer as a top GCI. It is the top dueling woodie in the world. I haven't been on it but many people seem to enjoy it. Just thought it derserved mentioning.

^^Yeah, this looks better than Thunderhead. GCI has to be my favorite wooden coaster company (besides GG) even though I haven't been on one of their coasters. I say this because I love their style and all their woodies look wonderful.
