8 Rides and a Coaster for TGE!

Great Escape developing family-themed area

BY GRETTA NEMCEK STANCLIFT

QUEENSBURY -- Great Escape is planning to redevelop the Coco Loco-Jungle Land area of its amusement park to include nine new kiddie rides.

Officials from Great Escape will go before the town of Queensbury Planning Board on Jan. 25 to get approval for its plan to remodel 1.63 acres of the park into a family-themed area with nine new rides.

A public hearing will take place during that meeting.

The park also has an application in front of the town Zoning Board of Appeals for a variance from a shoreline setback.

The renovations to the park area will force the repositioning of some of the nursery-themed attractions, such as the old schoolhouse that sits at the entrance of the Coco Loco-Jungle Land area. It will be turned into a Ranger Station.

The Jungle Walk will remain in its current form -- wobbly bridge and all -- and only certain characters will be replaced in order to re-theme the area as a "Safari Walk."

The Coco Loco Restaurant will remain but will be renamed "Character Cafe."

The biggest change will be new kiddie rides such as the Crazy Bus, a bright, cheery school bus that flies around in a circle in a flying carpet motion. A speedway will feature two-seater, whip-style cars that run over a flashy oval track.

The Rio Grande Train is a colorful, western-themed car that accommodates both adults and children.

The Lolly Swing includes 16 lollipop swings and a clown centerpiece with each seat accommodating an adult and a child.

Additional attractions will include Red Baron planes, a kiddie rollercoaster, kiddie boats and an extended patio for restaurant seating.

"The development will take advantage of ... better traffic flow in that area," said Great Escape General Manager John Collins, who admitted the area is not as well-traveled as other parts of the park.

we know now that 2 or 3 of the rides will be comeing from SFGAdv. also a few props from TGEs Jungle Land will go to SFGAdv to help theme KingdaKas area.

so now i guess TGE is the "coaster cap. of NY"...
