Valleyfair '05

Just got back from Valleyfair this morning and found out their plans for next season. Sounds like they're getting a Topspin and putting it in behind the Wave, where the Trabant currently sits. The Trabant will then move back to the area where the Bayern Curve was and the Trampolines currently are (by the former Red Garter Saloon).

Also, sounds like the plans to demolish the waterpark and build an indoor waterpark/hotel next to the employee dorms have been back-burnered. Fortunately, the GM of Valleyfair has his mind set to make Valleyfair bigger than just a small regional park and that gives me great hope for the future.

Cool another topspinfor Cedar Fair. Cant have too many flats. Is the waterpark that bad that they are going to demolish it? They shouldnt demolish the one right now to put in an indoor one. Does VF have alot of room left?

A traditional topspin or a suspended topspin?

Just heard topspin. Not sure which. I'll have to hit them up for that one next time I'm over there.

As far as the waterpark, it's not that it's too bad, it's that it takes up alot of space they could use for other things. That and because they are a seasonal park, an indoor waterpark and hotel would provide them with an offseason income. The other big reason is that the current waterpark is pretty landlocked so expansion would be tough. The maintenence guys would love to see a wavepool, but not in it's current local.

It's Official!

http://www.valleyfair.com/images/ban...er_Riptide.gif
Valleyfair! announced today that there will be a new flat ride debuting at the park for the 2005 park season. The new attraction will be a Huss Floorless Top Spin and be called RipTide. Valleyfair!'s sister park, Knott's Berry Farm, Buena Park, CA, just recently opened up RipTide at there park earlier this summer.

RipTide will reach a height of fifty-nine feet while seating thirty-eight passengers positioned back-to-back on the floorless gondola. RipTide will complete thirteen full 360 degrees rotations during the ride. The ride will swing the gondola back and forth until enough momentum is gained for the gondola to fully invert the passengers aboard RipTide.

Like RipTide at Knott's Berry Farm, this ride will also feature a fountain at the base of the ride creating a beautiful display. Riders aboard RipTide will get wet, and some even drenched, with variable programming for the fountains. During certain revolutions, the gondola will deflect the water onto on-lookers below.

RipTide will be located within the Midway Games area near White Water Country Waterpark. Riptide is scheduled to open in spring 2005 when Valleyfair! opens for its 2005 park season.
(For the press release, visit this link: http://www.valleyfair.com/ and look for the Coming in 2005 button on the front page.)

Edit: In the article, it says Midway games which could mean the Trabant area, but on the site, it says waterpark.

The official press release seems to have changed. It now says:

"RipTide will be located within the midway games area. The remaining capital projects include re-theming of the games area and additional in-park improvements."

They had me really confused when they mentioned both the waterpark and the midway area which are at opposite ends of the park.

I've heard that Valleyfair is also planning on putting in a new invert like silver bullet. Maybe a clone, mirror, or maybe even a new layout. Has anyone else heard this?

EDIT: I just found this on Screamscape.

(9/15/04) We’ve heard from an insider that Valleyfair is still tenativly planning on adding a B&M Inverted coaster for the 2006 season, but nothing has been finalized yet of course. The location may be somewhere between the waterpark, Thunder Canyon and Excalibur.

As they also said on Screamscape, the location is impossible since the service road runs through there and that's where the maintenence buildings are.

I guess, in a way, if they put it back there someplace, that'd be great. Excalibur and Thunder Canyon are walk-ons nearly everyday since there's nothing else back there. Another coaster back there with not much else to do isn't going to change that much.

Valley Fair 2005.

I was browsing around and came across the Valleyfair site. I found the construction and noticed the new top spin they are getting and skyscraper. (skyscraper looks awesome for it is right in the middle of wild thing's helix)

i grew up in MN, and most of my family stills live there. unfortunately, i haven't made it out to valleyfair for the last 3 summers! buuuut, i'm visiting again in august of this year, and that is a #1 priority. i can't wait to see my old "home park", and check out the 2 new attractions. anyone know how expensive the skyscraper will be? there's always one at the big fair here in hamburg, and i think it's like 6euros a ride, which would be like $5.25 or so. hopefully it's not much more expensive than that.

It was pretty expensive at dorney. I think it was 13.00 a piece. So enjoy it if you pay for it.

Whoa I haven't been on here in awhile...

I wonder if Riptide will bring in any rise in attendance...I mean its no Steel Venom but it still looks like a pretty amazing ride...

Anybody planning on riding Skyscaper opening day?

The helix was an interesting place to stick that Skyscraper. Always thought putting some different smaller flat would be cool, but I guess that shows how much I know.

just don't trip and scrape your knees/paws ... otherwise you'll have to go to First Aid. The fewer incident reports we have to make this year, the better!
