Official SFOG 2006 Coaster Construction Thread

Well, after my first trip to the park to see the markings and survey flags, it's certain theres a new coaster coming to the park next year. I've watched countless coasters being built from start to finish and let me tell you...this IS what we've all been waiting for. More than likely it'll be a B&M hyper coaster with a very similar layout to Nitro. It will begin it's lift over next to Great Gasp, drop over the GA Scorcher, do a left turn dive just like Nitro, go over one or two large hills, enter a hammer head (the bundle of survey flags at the end of the section of land across from the entrance shows this...it isn't a helix) do more hillls, a helix positioned much like the one on Nitro, and then tons of air time filled bunny hills back to the station. I was at the park doing nothing but looking at the construction for eight stright hours, and I can assure you this WILL be the layout.

Anyway, as for the construction, two ponds across from the entrance have been drained, and one tree (as of Thursday last week) has been cut down.

I hope everyone's as excited as I am!

Well, this thread may be closed, as there is already a thread about this (In "Rumors") and nothing has been confirmed yet.

But construction is clearly going on. The lake is drained, and trees are being removed, and markers can be seen everywhere as seen here. http://sfog.playride.com/2006/ And there is already a Sfgadv rumor thread, and they also have a construction thread, and that hasn't been officially confirmed by the park... I count a confirmation to be a parks official announcement, not that article that was found. If we wait for the SFOG announcement to make a thread here, that won't be until like February.

I went Friday and was looking at the ponds that were drained. As I was leaving I saw someting interesting. Kind of hidden in the trees was a big backhoe. I wish I would have gotten a picture but I was in a van, it was dark in the area and my camera's flash does not work but I clearly saw a big backhoe. I do not know whether or not it can be seen entering but as you leave look toward the empty ponds. You will lose sight of the ponds due to trees. Look carefully in the tress and you will see it.

Well, if I know how SFI is with B&M, this would more likely be a clone of Nitro then a similar layout.

That would make me sad. But a hyper coaster right in the middle of the park, now that's pretty cool.

This is pathetic. One of Six Flag's very few unique coasters is being cloned. Why can't they just come up with a few original designs for their parks?

You make is sound like it's confirmed in some way. It was just a suggestion someone made. I must admit, it does look alot like it'll have Nitro's layout, but I just don't see them doing that.

Hopefully it wont even be similar...but who knows? Only time will tell.

There's no way this could be a CLONE of Nitro. The terrain of SFOG is hilly and the Nitro terrain is flat. It would probably be SIMILAR to Nitro, but not an exact clone. Of course all that is assuming it IS a B&M, and it is a hyper, and that it's even a coater at all!

I doubt it will be a clone. If you look at the sketches in the link provided, the supposed layout is not like Nitro's.

So true. Every one is quick to jump to conclussions. Sf surprised everybody, and upset some CP fanboys, with KK. This could be a surprise as well.

I have never follewed the construction of a hyper coaster so if this does turn out to be one, I will follow very closely.

Ok, so it won;t be like Nitro, but who said it's even a B&M? It seems to me like the B&M speed coasters have dies out, despite their awesomeness, and that Intamin Hypers were more popular. Of course, this may also be a rocket, with a very large layout, like Storm Runner.

I do hope it's a beemer though, we need more of those around.

I don't see why you have to bring up Cedar Point fanboys anytime your talking about Six Flags being unoriginal. But in a few years, you guys (Six Flags zealots) will be upset when KK's record is broken. Six Flags just doesn't have the money to invest in a 500 foot coaster, sorry. Even a clone for that matter.

But who really cares if this is a Nitro clone, I've heard good things about Nitro so what's it going to hurt if they put another one in. Geez, I hate when people complain that another park in their own chain is getting a coaster similar to theirs. I showed this after I saw some guy complaining Disney World was getting a coaster with the same theme as Matterhorn Bobsleds. So what if it's similar, get over it!

It won't be a clone. The terrain is too different, and the markers and Nitro's layout don't match.

Terrain is never a problem for B&M...It doesn't matter if SFGAv's and SFOG's terrain is different, it could happen. You never know.

So what's wrong with it being similar to Nitro? It sure beats the crap out of cloning Goliath @ SFMM which has only TWO airtime spot with way too much wasted trackage. Positive gs don't do nothing for me and bores me to death and too much of it can make me sick. I want LOTS & LOTS of airtime and Nito and AC seems to be designed as such.

They dare not clone NITRO or I'll summon the NITRO ninjas to foil their plans.
Originality in this new coaster is key.

It's much more feasible in my mind for this to be an INTAMIN rocket coaster.

^That's what I was thinking. Sort of like a Storm Runner Layout, takes up losts of space but not really long.

At this point, this is a rumor. There is also a thread for SFOG in Rumors. 2006 construction is for confirmed ride projects only. That means, if you see actual ride parts going up on land (not sitting somewhere), that is a confirmed project. Putting marks on land or some digging does not constitute a confirmed project (as that can be anything including new utility lines).

Closing.

Everytime I ride a coaster, it valleys. I've never been on a stalled coaster or had one roll back (except Wicked Twister and what was Superman: Ultimate Escape, which does that by design).
