SFMM Expanding into HUGE adjacent plot of land

Aside from all the construction buzz and speculation going around the B&M Flyer "Tatsu" going into the park in 2006, some bizarre construction/land clearing activity has begun occuring in a VERY large plot of land (nearly the size of the current Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor parks combined!) adjacent to the park(s).

To get a more insightful look at what I'm talking about, visit Theme Park Review: http://www.themeparkreview.com/sfmmnew06/current.htm

Rumors range from all things such as it being paved over to become the new parking lot so that the park can expand into the space currently occupied by the old one (and that's a big parking lot in its own right). Other rumors are telling of a hotel and "shopping and dining area" that will go in into that space, eventually transforming Six Flags California (name given to the entire Six Flags Magic Mountain/Hurricane Harbor duo) into a full-fledged amusement resort, much like what is being done with Six Flags Great Adventure at the moment.

This is really exciting stuff! This could be anything! That plot of land has been untouched for YEARS! I don't know if this large parcel of land was purchased years ago from Newhall Land Development, but up until now, the plans for it may finally being turned into reality! Keep your fingers crossed

Dang!!! That is a huge area of land where the clearing is going on! That would be cool if they added a hotel there, I would defintely stay next to the park.

Here we go again...

Years ago, and I do mean a very long time ago, there was a proposal that made it through the rounds where SFMM was going to build a hotel and try to turn into a resort. It never happened and it's been long ago lost on the wayside. It's not happening.

The area around SFMM though has been growing steadily over the last several years. Lots of construction around. More than likely, it's houses or commercial buildings.

Very simply, if it was a hotel, or especially anything "Six Flags resort" wise, than you would have had the permits made very public long ago. Something like that absolutely can not be done in secret in CA as all permits, council permissions, zoning, etc are all a matter of public record.

Edit- removed stupid remark I made before I looked at the pictures.

Based on what's been said in the past, and that there isn't any new permits out there, this is probably the old shopping area that has been talked about and proposed a few years back. Should be interesting to see how they do it, or what exactly they do, since it's on a sloping hill. Far as I know though, Six Flags doesn't have any rights to use the land. They certainly don't own it. Heck, they don't even own the land the park sits on.

Then couldn't the argument be made that a company outside of Six Flags is clearing the land to build a resort type building? It's entirely possible that another company is working with Six Flags therefore any permits would be under the name of another company.

Not trying to fuel the fire, just trying to present an alternative theory. (That's what happens when I watch Law and Order at the same time I'm posting.)

Well after finding this little map of Valencia I believe Sirwillow maybe correct . It seams the land clearing has nothing to do with SF/SFMM here are The plans for Newhall lands 454 acre business park Entrada which should be finished by 2007.

Anyways heres the link to the map, you must have flash to use it. http://valencia.com/gateway/flashmap.asp

All of the land could be used for new restrooms. It's a possibility you know... Restrooms take lots of plumbing, and that land might be big enough for new restrooms. I mean, it's only about the size of the park, and is supposedly not even owned by Six Flags.

I remember months ago watching a report about a California ranch in danger and needing to develop part of its land for its survival. I hope it's not this one. It's too bad this is not a Six Flags property.

That's right! I forgot about Newhall's business park that they were planning there. Not sure if it's that same plot though, or if it might be another area of land. It is a huge plot that they own- I believe pretty much everything around SFMM.

Still will be interesting to see what they put there and how they deal with that slope that pretty much covers just about that whole plot there.

/\ Their planning and development site lists that huge parcel of land surrounding Magic Mountain Parkway as a business park that will be a future home to residential, recreational, hospitality, and retail businesses and buildings for other commercial use.

What a big disappointment!

No, it's not accross the street. If you're driving into SFMM, it's the parcel of land on the right as you go up the hill and in through the parking toll booths.

Sounds like a resort to me residential (place for employees to live) recreational (many things including water park) Hospitality ( Sounds like a hotel to me) retail business ( shopping are like an outlet mall) This is typical of a Kalahari resort. I don't see them placing a Kalahari in CA. but something similar is a possiblility...

^Yes everything you said does make sense, I hadn't took any of that wording into consideration when I made my post. Everything you said could be possible. After reading the Newhall site I see they're more into just selling the land not acutally building anything. So SF could have a deal with a major player to develop that plot of land and turn SFMM into a resort. I don't know it's possible guess well just have to wait until more is announced on the project.

Wrong. Time Warner Inc. bought the park from Newhall Land Development in 1979 for $51,000,000. A measly $250,000 profit that went into Newhall's pocket. Of course, the park's value is now more than triple that amount, but that's not the point I'm getting at But about Six Flags' rights to use the adjacent plots of land - I'm guessing that would be correct. However, I believe it has always been an option for Six Flags to negotiate the acquisition of adjacent property that still belongs to Newhall, but considering the incredible debt load on their shoulders at the moment, it's not something they may be considering at the moment...
