''Grand Rapids'', rapid river ride for Michigan's Adventure, for 2006

Yeah, I have just got my newsletter from the park, where they have announced there 2006 plans.

The budget for 2006 is $6 Million, and will include ''Grand Rapids'', which is a rapid river ride, made by IntaRide, LLC, and ''Coasters'', a new classic 1950's-style restaurant.

You can read the press release on http://www.miadventure.com/press.shtml and see the logo and a photo of one rapid ride at another park on the mainsite, which is http://www.miadventure.com/main.shtml

This is a nice addition for the park, I love rapids rides.
It's also good to see a new restaurant, I never ate at Coasters in Cedar Point, but it's always pretty busy, so it cant be all that bad.

^It is very expensive but that's at the Point. I'm sure it will be cheaper at MA. I think they needed a good water ride. It is so bizzare how their chute the chute flume ride (that I can't remember the name of right now) is at the far back seperate from the rest of the park, and their log ride is decent but not wet enough for a really hot day. When I was there this summer, a river rapids ride would have been paradise!

It's a nice addition, but a very dumb name. I'm sorry but after living in the area they could do better than naming it like the nearby city. If they ever get their next coaster, you might as well name it "Chicago" or "Detroit".

Everytime I ride a coaster, it valleys. I've never been on a stalled coaster or had one roll back (except Wicked Twister and what was Superman: Ultimate Escape, which does that by design).

AMEN!!! Finally we see some REAL improvements to the park. Also they got the water issue squared away and they will have public water for next year meaning that it opens the gates for a coaster in 2007.

This addition is good for the park, but they have been attracting the family for a bit too long. They realy need to add a ride for thrill seekers for 2007. I wish it is a hyper or invert but even a thirll ride like maXair or Riptide 720 will do.

I think that they are going to make some great improvments comming up. My family used to own a driving range about 3 miles north of the park and we knew the Jourdens pretty well. I don't know if Cedar Fair will follow what he wanted for his capital expendures, but I know that this ride was on that list. If they do, expect a S&S tower and a hyper next.

Besides Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, and now Michigans Adventure, does anybody know if the other Cedar Fair parks have a Coasters 1950's themed diner? They are really fun restaurant concepts, and they all sport high resolution framed photographs hanging on the restaurant walls of all the Cedar Fair wooden coasters.

DorneyPark has a Coasters Drive-In Restuarunt.
And so does World's of Fun and Valleyfair!. Looks like Geauga Lake is the only Cedar Fair Park to get one. (I'm thinking 2006 w/ Phase 2 of WWK)

Instead of spending an hour at the park, you can spend one hour and 5 minutes now. Wonder how much brand new concrete they will be adding?

You know, as much as I really do hate to dis small parks, I really did have a hard time trying to spend an entire day there. If it weren't for Shivering Timbers, I don't think I would have liked the place very much at all, but I had to wake up REALLY early and drive six hours to get there, and it was a HOT day. I think I was not in the best of spirits when I arrived. Nice park, but needs more trees, and the layout it kind of wierd toward the back. The land around the park is just odd. Its is very flat with a lot of brush, and weeds. I hope that they put the new rapids ride in the center if the Timber Town R.R., because that ride is a total joke. There is NOTHING to look at exept overgrown brush, and a brief veiw along the left side of ST. They also need to make a full loop around the lake to give more of a flow to the park. I really think the new ride will help a lot.

By the way, wasn't there a Coasters restaraunt in Sandusky outside of the park? I could have sworn that when I was there in 1999 that there was a Coasters on the way to the Point.

Another stupid ride with a even stupider name "Grand Rapids" We have a big city by that name. Took all of two seconds to think of it not to mention the pun. How long must we thrillseekers wait for a new coaster?? Until Wildcat and Timbers fall down and the Corkscrew rusts itself apart?? I think it's total crap that Cedarfair with it's vast resources cannot see fit to put in a few coasters at Michigan's Adventure and build up the park a little better than what they are doing.
I have always said that I would like to build a competing park in Michigan and at least add a major coaster a little more frequently than M.A. has done, then we would see a coaster war!!!!!

Coaster war? You mean bankruptcy war? The region can hardly support one park let alone two.

Didn't say I would build a park "in the region" and "if" you put in a good coaster now and again like a few record breakers as C.P. has done there wouldn't be bankruptcy . People would come from all over the country to ride bringing money into Muskegeon.
I can see a bankruptcy alright if M.A. keeps going with these small rides!

MA will not go bankrupt, they bring in a lot of people every day and its packed most of the summer.

They would bring MORE people into the park if they added a new coaster from time to time. Besides, if they draw such a crowd, what excuse is there not to build a new roller coaster???

Once again, MIAdv goes a season without a new major coaster, too bad, but time will tell. I'm a bit disappointed, but at least the park is getting something. A great park isn't built overnight, and I'm not going to question CF's investment priorities, however, if nothing major appears by 2008 I will be concerned. Timbers is more than enough to convince me to drive 200 miles, though, that will not cut it for most of the GP.

I dont know why some people are complaining about the name.
Grand means big, large, great, etc...
It's really a good name, and different than all the other rapid rides that use the same old ____________Canyon.

Plus, it could be good publicity. Maybe they'll do something like all people from Grand Rapids, MI get in for half price, with proof of course.

Personally, I like the name. I think it's a rather creative pun off of a local city. Certainly a heck of a lot better than the standard names you see on these, and I like that there's a little more to the name than just some random thing pulled out of the air.

Sounds like it's going to be a great fit in the park to.

I personally don't really like the name. I live about an hour south of Grand Rapids, and I don't think of it as a name for a Rapids ride. When I first heard it on screamscape, I thought that Michigan's Adventure wouldn't do that, but I was wrong.

If its another hot summer (like last year) then this ride will be pretty successful, I think its going in right by the water park.

It will be close to the water park. It will be the last attraction along the midway where Adventure Falls, Ripcord, Hydroflume, and the Swan Boats are located.

I hope they add another ride there, then they could connect the path all the way around the lake.

Somewhat, but not entirely. Take a trip up to the park and go in the front office and ask, they'll tell you all they're telling the public right now.

I was up at the park Friday, took some pictures of offseason activites. Can't see much construction (check out the official site for some actual construction pictures) but did get to see some of the parts in the employee lot (Gate A). Check them out: http://gallery.mirollercoast.com/11042005/

Nice pictures. It must be nice to have all those carny rides that are built to come apart so easily. Makes for an easy offseason prep. As for the remarks about them not getting a new coaster, I think that six coasters is more than enough for a park that size. They need to put in a variety of other attractions before they start adding more coasters. I think that this new investment is a great move. They are putting in something that the park needs. I am as much a coaster lover as anyone, but I also believe there has to be a balance, and I love good flats or other attractions. Shivering Timbers is a phenominal ride, and I think the park needs to catch up to it before they go further in the coaster department.

Cool. Nice to see they are giving some sort of updates. I am really surprised to see that the rafts are already there.
