Interesting to read

The other perspective of parks. My whole family is coaster-lovers, although $$ prevents us from traveling to as many parks as we'd like to. Someday...

I read with interest the 'but he already rode it' response. That truly happened to us. I've always been a safety stickler with my kids (seatbelts, bike helmets, etc) and abided by the height requirements. A few years ago we went to SFA and rode the Wild One several times in a row (no line, get right back on). There was no one with a measuring stick and we checked our youngest against the 'You Must Be This Tall" entrance sign. He met it. The 4th time, the guy was there with the stick and said our son didn't meet it. Even with the stick, it looked to us like he did, you couldn't get a finger in between his head and the stick. He was very disappointed as he was unable to ride it again and couldn't ride most of the other coasters that year either.

I think the thing that ticked me off the most was we had to pay full admission price for him (he sure met the height requirement for THAT at the entrance booth) and yet was restricted to the less exciting rides. It seemed to me that there should be some correlation between the rides you can ride and the admission cost.

Glad to see workers enforce the line jumpers. Nothing makes me madder.

I enforced the rules. I was just a lanky 17 year old but I still barked at people. Confidence was built working @ SFGADV.

I hate line jumpers. I was running the bumper cars one season amongst other rides. I had a dude get in my face and say. This is my friend who just got off x ride and wants to join us " you are gonna let him in ahead of the others" I called security when I refused because this man started to cuss me out. Including saying you B**ch I'm a Hell's Angel yea that scared me NOT! I got his but hauled out of the park.

No linejumping is my favorite rule to enforce. It's even better when you let them wait through the second half of the line, get in and sit down, then ask them to leave before you start the ride. Of course you have to be polite about it. If they refuse, threaten to call security, which usually gets them running. If they still refuse, do call security and let them handle it.

I don't work at a park, but I enforce the rules. For example, at this year's CoasterCon, my friend and I were waiting in line for S:UF night ERT when a couple of GP who were getting off the ride jumped the fence and got back in line - right in front of us. I asked the guy in front of them to please try to get the message to a ride op that this had happened. A couple of minutes later, they held up the ride so two ops could come and take care of them. We found out later that they were ejected from the park, and I believe their season passes were revoked. Ha ha.

^Nice. Same thing happened to me at Coaster Con when it was at Cedar Point. There were so many line jumpers but they were dumb enough to jump right in front of me so i reported it and they got kicked out of the park. I also saw someone jump the fence at VF t get into the park without paying but the way the park is build the only place you can jump the fence is in a ride area or in an employee area.

Which means you'll either get thrown out of the park or killed. What a great way to spend the day!

If you don't enforce the rules when your working, then you are putting people's lives into your clumbsy hands. Too much crap can easily happen if you don't follow the rules.

I enforce all the rules with strict authority. If you don't like the rules don't yell at me. I'm the person who enforces them. I didn't make them. The main rules I have to enforce are the Shirt/Shoes policy because my area is near the waterpark, and no smoking because I work in a kids area.

Another thing...I was just wondering what you do when your in the operators booth about to start or ending a ride and a guest lets themselves into the ride area?
I cannot stand this and I don't let the person/people ride.

The shirt/shoes policy is really the only rule I have to enforce. A close second would be height limit, but Blizzard River has a low height limit (36"), so I don't need to enforce it that often.

but if Blizzard River is a river rapids ride, why would you need to enforce the shirt/shoes policy?

We have to enforce the policy because riders must wear shoes, a shirt, and shorts on the ride. Bathing suits must be covered up. God, I feel like I'm giving a spiel right now. Well anyways, even though it is a water ride, guests must be in full, proper dress code, because at SFKK, we have a sort of pride and dignity to our park, and I personally don't want to see old guys' beer-bellies and have dirty feet water splashing all over me.

Carowinds is the same with the rapids & falls ride but on the Super Saturator (Set Point water coaster) Shoes, Shirts & shorts are not required.

Like Carowinds73-03 said shirt, shoes, and shorts are required for the falls. I think thats the rule I have to enforce the most. And dont let me see you sitting on my rails or jumping lines.

So here's a list of all the troubles people said in this thread.

LINE JUMPERS
GUESTS SITTING ON RAILS
NO SMOKING (IN CHILDRENS AREAS AND IN LINES)
HEIGHT CHECK
GUESTS WHO STAND UP ON RIDES
GUESTS WHO EAT IN LINE OR TRY TO BRING FOOD IN A RIDE
PROPER DRESS CODE (shoes, shirts at all times)

Anybody have more? I'm curious since I'll probably work at La Ronde this year.
