Do you enforce the rules?

I wanted to know if any one enforce the rules? I dont mean getting on the mic and telling them to get off the hand rails every one does that lol. I mean like no smoking line jumping. Here is my testimony lol I had to go the the bathroom, I seen this guy smoking I said"Sir" you cannot smoke here you have to go to a reserved smoking spot. He didnt seem mad or anything but the people that was watching me look happy. And we did recieve guest complaining that park employees do not enforce the new smoking policy. Like I said I'm very strict on line jumpers OMG! dont let me get started lol. Um I constantly tell people no sititing on hand rails, etc.. What about you guys.........

I enforced the rules. Like when I would be at the adult carousel and I tell the parents who are allowed to stand next to their kids horse to stand on the inside of it. I would get a few eye rolls and then they would move. I try to say stuff firmly but politely. I make line jumpers go to the end of the line. If kids open the gate and run in after I have stopped the ride I make them go all the way around and come in again. I said keep your feet down and sit down please onehundred million times at least.

i did last year when i was in kiddie land. You can't smoke in kiddieland so i was so use to smelling fresh air. So when someone would start smoking, i'd smell it in a second and i would tell them there is no smoking. Sometimes people would get mad but oh well thats the rulez.

I was pretty anal about line jumpers, especially when they did it in front of me, as well as not sitting on the rails (which a lot of people do in a queue and we don't allow it for safety reasons). People sitting on the rails I just tell to get off, and line jumpers I pull them from the line and give them a choice of either getting in the back of it, or having security come and settle it, which I noted they are not as "lenient" as I am.

Height check. You have to be strict with that. It is the worst though telling someone they can't ride.

I was with that too, but that was also a given... I never had a problem with people trying to beat the height requirements though.

I do for the most part. Sometimes I don't want to get in a fight, so I'll just let that jerk smoke in line. One guy argued with me for 10 minutes in line because he felt that "rules were meant to be broken." What an idiot.

I strictly enforce the rules on the job. No smoking in children's areas, no smoking in line if I'm near the line, always wear shirts and so on. Sometimes people don't want to follow the rules even after I told them to, so that's when I call security. Fun.

Your extremly lucky then. One day on the Bumper Cars which has a 48" height minimum I got booed by the entire line when I wouldn't let a kid on that was just barely too short.

I also have had a lady try and sneak her child onto the Musik Express after I told her the child was too small. Needless to say she wasn't very good at hiding her child and I caught her before she even got near the seats.

Then I have had the other normal arguements where parents try and persway me to let their child on, the famous "I'll make sure he/she is ok" or "He/She is almost there". It is really hard to turn away a child but the parents make it 10 times worse when they try and pedal there way around the rule.

People who try to sneak their kids on are the worst. They always say stuff like, "my kid rode earlier" and you know they didn't because it is like 10:15 in the morning and you have been doing height check since opening. The other thing they say is "your height stick must be bigger than the others." It gets so annoying.

I get booed alot when that happens lol, when I get the height stick I measure the kid the people in line be like. "HE TALL ENOUGH" HE MADE IT" YEA HE'S OK" YEA" In my mind I'm like omg shut up it really does annoy me but that doesnt change my decision on letting he or she on.

I like to get the guests involved...like when someone, for one reason or another, refuses to get off the train. While other ops try to get them to get out, I quietly get the queue to start chanting "Get up off the ride! Get up off the ride!"

Same here when I was at the Magic Kingdom. I actually caught someone smoking halfway across Fantasyland! I hated it when people started yelling at me because they're outside and it doesn't matter. For those who don't know, all WDW parks are non-smoking, except in designated areas.

On top of that I always enforced the rules. Now being in merchandise it also meant enforcing the law to a degree, such as counterfiet currency/credit cards/refunds and shoplifting. Another thing I hated was trying to explain to people that their credit card doesn't work or I can't accept it. I had one person throw a Buzz Lightyear Light Chaser at me for that, after showing me her mother for a photo id.

Oh man, I just wanna flip on those people. Because they don't understand that if you start to let kids on that are a half inch off then it will snowball to an inch, then 2 inches, then 3 and soon your letting toddlers drive the Bumper cars and ride the Wildcat coaster.

And I love that "Oh he rode earlier" line. Though I have a feeling sometimes that they actually have and a bad attendant or operator didn't measure them right ot the kid was able to maybe stand on there toes. Or even had a different pair of shoes on. That is when the parents really flip out and all you can do is say "Well he isn't tall enough now" and that pisses the hell outta people......I just can't wait for opening day on Saturday so I can start to deal with these people again.

lol yea scottywood thats the #1 qoute "he rode earlier" in my mind I say so much things that if I said in person I'm guaranteed to get a guest complait. lol Like I said I keep it in my mind I keep to my self alot dealing like that. Again your correct on another issue, some operators measure kids wrong and they did get on before then when you measure them there short. I did say that "Well he isn't tall enough now" qoute atleast one time I think lol. I remember one time I measured this kid he had to be five years old atleast He was to short. I turned my back to put the height stick away that little kid was about to attack me lmao! the parent holded him back every one was laughing. I was about to be attacked by a five year old lol.

The best I saw a rule enforced and I might have said this before so bear with me. Two kids had stood up on the Thunderbolt at then Riverside. They were ejected by the staff. The policeman who escorted them out to entrance heard them bragging about their stunt to each other and snagged both their season passes.

Last year I had some redneck flick his cigarette at me when I politely asked him to stop smoking in the queue line for the Giant Wheel. I just shook it off and went about my business, and got thanked by another guest moments later so it was all worth while. People that know me will tell you I'm a brick wall when it comes to enforcing rules, I don't let anything slide!

I hear all you guys... I get the same height issues and the no loose article is a big one...

Best story was when a buddy of mine and I were standing at height stick and a lady who was around 40 I’d say had a purse and walked thought with two little girls who were about 10 to 12. Both tall enough to ride but we looked at her and say you need to please but you bag in a locker. She then asked where the lockers were and we pointed and then when we turned back to her she took off running gown the queue... Then stopped and yelled to her girls who were standing next to us "Come on hurry before they get us!" and I was like ummm err??? Go ahead girls... So I ran up the exit and waited for her to board the row and before the air gates opened I was standing in front of her gate and as they opened I was like "I asked you could you please put you bag in a locker right over there..." She then sat down and refused over and over so our short tempered sup came over and had it out with her then all of a sudden her girls looked up at her and were like, "mommy put your bag in a locker or get off we want to ride...!" I feel to my knees laughing...

I was ridiculous because we will even give the locker to them for free... But she didn’t want to so I escorted her off to the exit and stood with her until her girl got back...

my favorite "he rode earlier' line is when they say their was another lady at the entrance before and i'd be the only female working all day.. or when they say the photos people said they were tall enough. we have that incident a lot between Alpie and Apollo because of the mixup of the height, chest, and waist measurement. Like how on Alpie the height is 54 and the chest is 52.. and on Apollo the height is 52 and the waist is 48..

i don't think i've ever had to call security for height restriction problems.. but we did have to call someone when this one kid keep sneaking on Alpie and Apollo with a cast on. Casts are probably my biggest problem at entrance because with it still being kinda cold it's hard to tell unless it's obvious

with height though.. usually if you explain WHY it's there.. then parents are less likely to try to push them through.. especially if you say "well if something goes wrong then he might have to get himself out of his seat at a 45 degree angle 200 feet up in the air without your help" .. at least at our coasters and even at Water Country, the person riding has to be able to support themselves without assistance... thems the rules

I enforce some rules. If I see someone eating in the Living Seas, I might say something if its something that would make a mess. Otherwise I pretend not to see it. I won't let them enter with it though.

As for smoking, its rare that you'll see someone randomly smoking. But I'll tell them where they can do it. One of my managers said you don't have to tell them if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

In Turtle Talk, there are rows of benches for the guests. I wouldn't always say something if kids were walking on them, but after hearing some kid fall and lose a tooth, I'll say something now. Ew.

Thats about it. Oh, some people say there is no flash photography ANYWHERE in the Seas. No one told me that so I allow it.

I love it when parents ask me to use some quote, unquote, "f*ing discretion" over the height rules. Again, as careful as your kid might be--even if YOU were on the ride--if I can make a FIST above his head and it still doesn't reach the top of the height stick, you best accompany him on a ride with a lower requirement.

Think about your kid's safety, too, the height requirements aren't there just to keep the line sizes down!

And yeah, the snowball effect is one of the biggest reasons we have to STRICTLY maintain height requirements.

Well imagine if every employee at an amusement park felt that way and an attendant didn't tell someone on a rollercoaster they have to buckle their seat belt because they didn't feel comfortable. Or didn't eject a line cutter they saw because they don't feel comfrotable. Or let a kid who is 6 inches short ride a rollercoaster because you don't feel comfrotable telling the parent he can't ride.

If you work at an amusement park you have yo feel comfrotable enforcing rules because if you don't they someone could get seriously hurt or it will seriously cause another guest to have a bad experience cause they had to wait in a 2 hour line while a group of kids cut right in front of an employee and got to ride after not waiting. Ya, the rules at amusement parks are strict and some of them aren't fun, but there in place so that everyone has a fair and safe experience at the park.

And now I have successfully come off to sound like my parents, lol

NOBODY would let you get away with that in MK. I understand at Seas it would be a different story as you're indoors and most WDW Guests at least go outside before lighting up.

I think what he means is that you shouldn't be working at a ride or working in a place where rules need to be that strictly enforced if you're not comfortable with them.
It sounds almost inhumane, but what else are we to do?
I couldn't agree more that quality adherence to the policies set forth gives a better and safer experience to ALL riders.

Years ago one of the kids working at Lake Compounce let a kid under height slide through. The result was the kid banged her head on the lap bar on the Wildcat and lost a tooth. Enforce the rules because the designers of the rides know what they are doing and the end result might be someone's life or injury if you don't. Think about that when some parent is ranting about jr being tall enough and trying to make you feel guilty.
