To the entire CP staff for Coastermania...

OUTSTANDING work, ladies and gentlemen!!!

The rides are great, they always are. However, it was the staff that made the day outstanding. Never before (including CP) have I witnessed a staff that seemed (as a whole) to enjoy their job, and enjoyed seeing the guests have fun.

You guys and gals did that on Friday. You did it BIG time.

I posted this in another thread, but this is my personal thank you to each and every one of you. Everyone I encountered was helpful, and seemed to be enjoying their job. It really took the day to a level I didn't expect. Here are some of the standouts. If you are one of these people, or know who I'm talking about, please pass on my thanks:

The gal working in the ticket booth- she was on the far left, and was wearing a maroon windbreaker. I forgot my change, and she chased me down to give it to me.

Brian, morning Mean Streak crew- Very helpful, and seemed glad to help. You deserve to work on a much better coaster than MS!

Entire crew for morning ERT on TTD- five minute reset for a rollback- a year ago, I'd never have believed that was possible. Nick- very friendly and happy to talk about his ride. Also, the enthusiastic guy (dark hair, sort of a dark complexion) Singing, cheering on the crowd, generally a great attitude.

Sweeps everywhere all day- I can't remember seeing any trash on the ground in the whole 18 hours. I'm sure there was, but I don't remember any. I DO remember the place being really clean.

MF ride ops during morning ERT- were very helpful stapling in the "barely fits" and were very courteous in doing so. That has to be annoying, but you'd never know it by watching them.

Raptor, afternoon- the guy with the microphone. Very enthusiastic in describing the ride. Nice touch.

Power Tower, evening- the guy checking height at the beginning of the line. Asked how my day had been, high-fived me, and wished me a great ride. Another great touch.

One of the gift shops, sorry I don't remember which one. After dark. We took a blanket to the counter, and it didn't have a price tag. The cashier ( Brown hair, Asian features) wasn't bothered at all by the fact that she had to go find the price.

Raptor ERT crew- The ladies at the beginning of the line were very friendly, and had smiles for everyone. The ride ops were getting us on and off the ride so fast that the last block brake wasn't needed all the time, and when it was, it was only a very brief grab.

Magnum ERT crew- Meghan (I think) at the bottom of the stairs had a boring job, and was working late, but was friendly and smiling. The ride ops were, like raptor, getting trains out of the station very quickly. Also very friendly- seemed to be really enjoying watching us coaster geeks having fun.

Food services, everywhere all day-everyone was friendly and smiling. Not what I expect from people stuck in hot little boxes all day.

The nurse at the First Aid station in Frontiertown, morning. Very helpful and friendly while helping us through a couple of cases of coffee-induced heartburn. And the frontiertown gift shop worker who told us "No, I don't sell antacid, but you can get some at the first aid station."

Those weren't the only staffers to be applauded, just the ones I can remember. The entire staff did a great job all day. I stopped one management-looking type and told him how impressed I was with the staff in general.

I hope you all know how appreciated your work was. Monday, a letter is going in the mail to park ops so that all of your bosses will know how pleased I was with my visit. Thanks to each and every one of you.

Thanks, it definately feels good to be appreciated. It is especially trying to work a ride like MF. Explaining to people who have waited in line for 2 hours and could fit in the test seat that they can't ride is one of the most difficult things I've had to do, but most people take it surprisingly well. Once again, thanks for your kind words.

Yep, I have to agree. I did see somebody pushing with all their might to get those larger-than-average ACEers in the MF seats. Must have been you, Beltzie. Good job, buddy. I gotta give props to the guy on the mic at Raptor. High-fives all around with that dude. Plus, he knew the Purple Cobras chant. Kudos. And the maXair people during ERT...good enough for a round of applause, thats for sure. Yeah, we probably embarrassed them by shouting out their name and encouraging everybody on the gondola to do likewise but dammit they deserved it.

On an unrelated note:

I don't care what you say, Bama, I still like Mean Streak. But how long has it had trims on the initial drop? I go to CP every year and I never remembered those trims.

^ I dunno exactly how long the trims have been on. They were there two years ago when I made my first trip. I really WANT to like MS, because it is the most aesthetically pleasing coaster I've ever seen. Check my sig, I'm not normally one to complain about a rough coaster. I heard it had gotten some retracking, and wanted to give it another chance.

In fairness, I DID ride it in the back, on a mostly empty train. (lookin' for airtime) It did have more airtime than the last time I rode it.

I don't think it would be right to blame the manufacturer. Dinn did Thunder Run at SFKK, and I love TR. Also, Charles Dinn worked with Kings Island (No Paramount then)in creating the Beast, which is the best wooden coaster ever.

Question for you- You like it. Where do you ride it? Front of the train? Do you have a favorite train? As I said, I'd really like to like this coaster. As of now, it's the only coaster I've ever ridden and wished it was over halfway through.

Bruns, I remember the good ol days where I would be chasing people out my booth. I have worked in tolls on several occasions over the last few seasons and people would forget their change...$2, 12, 42, and even $92 sometimes. This was back when parking was $8.00.

The 100 yard dash to them screaming "Wait, Your Change?!!!" was always fun. When they would realize they left the cash at the booth, they were quite embarassed.

However, it beats getting your foot ran over. It wasn't that bad but it tingled for the rest of the day, lol.

Douger

P.S. I know which supervisor you are talking about and she is a really good one too .

Hey Douger, that was actually Bama that said that. But don't worry, I'll pass on the word because this next comment is for him. I don't really have a favorite seat or train on Mean Streak, I usually go for the shortest wait on that one. There isn't a whole lot of airtime on that ride so going in the back isn't really worth it. But I still like it for pretty much the same reason as what your sig says, I like a big, rough, woody. Wait, that could be re-phrased better. But seriously, I want to feel like I'm riding a bull. And MS is far from my favorite wood coaster. Its not even in my top ten, but I still enjoy it and I too have actually ridden wooden coaster worse than it (Predator at SFDL and Grizzly at PGA are the first to come to mind).

^^well, since there's no air anyway, maybe next time I'll try it up front. The view should be pretty good.

Though on Friday, I DID get a bit of floater air on a couple of places.
