Official 2006 New/Rehires

Well, 2006 is here and before we know it we will be hearing complaints from our guest. So who will be returing to their cool park?

I will be returing to Carowinds (PC) in the Rides Dept. Ride not sure yet.

How can you be returning to the ride dept. if you're 16?

As I wrote in another thread-

Ok Here is how it works at PC. On South Carolina side you have to be 16 to work rides, coaster or not ( ie. check lap bars, assign seats, controls, everything.) And there are coasters that 16 year olds run- Thunder Road, Runway Reptar ect. On North Carolina side you have to be 18 to do anything. And with TL (supervisor) positions you have to be 18 and that doesnt matter what side your own.

I'll be returning in 2006. Rides Dept as well at Carowinds. Hopefully Top Gun again but it does not really matter.

^ Welcome to our world. The two Carolinas always have different laws and such.

If they did that though someone would probably complain that the SC law allows them to run a ride.

I also find it strange that they would allow a 16 year old to run a coaster... a flat, not so much.

Larger flats, not so much.

Thats what happens when you build a park between two states and both with such different laws. I do agree that a 16yo should not be able to run a coaster.

I think a 16yr is more dangerous behind the wheel of a car than working a rollercoaster. I see no problem in it.

I'm working for year number 4 at Cedar Point.

I agree.

Really, i don't think age should be the determining factor (of course there has to be some kind of guideline), considering I've seen many 18+ year olds have a maturity level less of a 16 year old. I'd imagine most parks would have a certification-training process, that once completed, a 16 year old would be more than capable of running ANY ride.

FYI, at Sfgadv you can operate ANY ride in the park at 16. In my previous 5 years of experience there, the last 4 on a supervisory level, I never once felt uneasy about a 16 year old op-ing a certain ride. If they were able to go through their department training, pass a basic rides knowledge test with a 90% or higher, and then pass a test for EVERY position he or she is working with a 90% or higher, then I am comfortable with that person - regardless of age.

Im goin back to Kennywood for my 3rd summer...hopefully to the Phantom/Pitt Fall crew. If not then i dont know where i will be, because they split up the racer/rabbit crew. Now the racer is with the sky coaster and paddle boats and the rabbit is with the MGR,Paratrooper, and kangaroo's. So if im not at the phantom i hope im on the racer crew.

O god not this topic again.... I think that 16 year olds are capable of runing coasters, if they are mature enough. I think that some of the 16 year olds on my crew were more mature than the 18 year olds.

Can we get back on topic...

Yes, but they can't make exceptions. They can't just go "oh, he's 16 but he seems mature enough... lets let him operate a coaster."

Anyways, right now I'm in the Disney College Program... 1st time. I might return to Cedar Point again this summer, but I havent decided yet if I will or not.

I'm hired at Six Flags Over Texas for the Games Department. Hopefully by July I plan on making a department transfer to rides.

I had my departmental training today at Great Adventure. I'm working as a lead for park services for my internship this summer. I look foward to some interesting conversation here since I'm one of you now.

Oh wow I never updated. I started out on Tomorrowland Speedway, which was hell except for the friends I made working there. I was going to go back to Cedar Point this summer, but instead I transferred to Disney-MGM Studios and am now on Tower of Terror.

Today I did my training in the rides department of SFA. Basically we sat in a class and were lectured on everything we should know about operating the rides. We were then given a 42 question test. We could only get 4 questions wrong but I got them all right (it was really easy). So now on thursday morning I go in for my first day, I'm hoping I'll be running a coaster and I'm fairly sure I will be, but I'll find out that morning where I'm working.

After Tony and Tyler pretty much slapped me in the face at CP, I decided to quit and try Ride Operations at SFGAm with TA2KX. I have department training in 3 days which is when I'll get my ride assignment.

Nothing, Cedar Point was great and I had a lot of fun working there, but there's more money to be made at Six Flags. I became a Certified Ride Attendant today, going for my operators license sometime this week. This season I will be on the crew of Batman: The Ride. Which is kind of ironic since my friend got Superman, and the two crews are sort of rivals.

I've been here in Disney World since January on the College Program. I'll be going Full-time once my program is completed.

I work at all four parks in Entertainment!

I see no problem in it. However, one little mess-up they should be revoked. With the new regulations of coasters, the ride will not start if not in correct position, or it will not go down the hill. And a flat, i see no problem.
