| | Six Flags America We get bashed alot by media and forums accross the net, but i dont think we are all that bad, considering all we put up with. scorching heat, repetitive motions, flat ride blues, coaster commotion, screaming children, throw up, loud and beligerent guests, and strict rules. but dont get me wrong, there is no excuse not to try your best to deliver the best guest service possible, and we try, but it is NOT EASY. even me, a seasoned 4 year veteran to the park is not always happy. but i try, and when the 11:00 am sun burns away, i try to keep a positive face on things, knowing that there's another promotion around the bend, putting me that much closer to an air-conditioned office. |

Those aren't valid excuses and reasons for poor guest service.
And...why was this thread created? |

| | | Hello BreezyDaBest, welcome to the forums-
It looks like you have a lot to vent about from your experience of working at Six Flags. From what you posted, I assume you are like many people I met within the amusement park industry, taking a low paying job with the intention to fortify your resume with experience. To that I applaud.
However,
Chris L makes a very good point. Don't think it's just Six Flags America that deals with problems day in and day out. Every job has it's perks and antiperks. There's many people in the amusement park industry that think they got the toughest job. Let me tell you, I've seen much worse. The bottom line is their no excuse for any hardship, you do your job and shut up. Complaining will give you no sympathy in this business. But by far the biggest problem I have with your post is your last line. I really think you have the wrong outlook on your job. Instead of living for the day, your living for tomarrow, and with that attitude, you won't be happy until your dead. You should learn to embrace the scorching heat, repetitive motions, flat ride blues, coaster commotion, screaming children, throw up, loud and beligerent guests, and strict rules as a challenge rather than an excuse.

| | | it all comes down to how you look at it.
For example, I am right now looking at attending Central Florida University to take Theme Park managment, and Im looking forward to the "scorching heat, repetitive motions, flat ride blues, coaster commotion, screaming children, throw up, loud and beligerent guests, and strict rules." because its what ive wanted to do ever since I started making amusment parks out of toys when I was six.
Dealing with all that will be my dream coming true.
...well in a sense at least, you know Im not actually going to enjoy those particular things, but I'll still enjoy being able to do what I've always wanted to do, even if it comes with a load of crap with it.
It isnt about all the crap you have to deal with, its about the big smiles you see from the family thats leaving the park after having the best day of there summer, thats what the theme park is about, or at least what it should be about.

I guess Florida would be the best place for a program like that.

| | | dont get me wrong, i love my job and ive accepted those antiperks with stride and made the best of it. most people who have and havent worked theme parks agree that it isnt the most glamorous job out there. it's tough. i, personally deliver 100% guest service 100% of the time and that's why i've gotten one promotion a year ever since i started. the reason i posted this is because some peolpe dont seem to understand. i read one post that said the park is filled with idiots and i disagree. you will always get those employees who want to get their paycheck and go home and slack on the guest service end, but you also get the employees who come back year in and year out, and strive to deliver the best guest experience, but somehow their efforts are muted by those who dont seem to care. i didnt want to seem like i was complaining, becaus i knew the ups and downs of the indusry from the start. i know that the park needs work and we have new management who is turning things around. just give it some time and i bet by the time the 2007 season is under way, you'll want to come back. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
