IE question (Everyone please read)

There is something wrong with IE. I've been having this error for a few months now and I've had it. It's the last straw now, I can't stand it any longer! I'm about to switch over to Netscape because of it. The error, you ask? There are a few things that annoy me. When I first open IE, it takes a couple seconds for the window to open, which is a bit annoying, and that happens when I open new windows or pop-ups come up. The pop-ups are the most annoying because they stop my browsing because I have to wait for them to come up and finish loading. My friends have computers where IE just pops-up in no time and pop-ups come up and they close them right away. I have to wait for pop-ups to load (and it takes a while for them to come up as I said above) so I can close them. The worst error I get is a [not responding] error. Who gets that with programs? You know, you have to force quit them with ctrl+alt+del. After it closes, you can just open it again. Not IE. Once that error comes up (and it comes up EVERY time I use IE), I force quit and it closes the program. But I can't open it after that, I have to restart my computer. It seems to happen out of nowhere, too. I'm working on the Internet, and it just stops, I can't close the window or do anything on the Internet, so I have to force quit, and then restart. It is very annoying. I also have Morpheus and some people are telling me that might be the problem. I run Windows ME on a Gateway computer with an AMD Athlon Processor. That's about as detailed as I can get. Can someone please help me before I finally decide to reinstall Windows? If this error isn't fixed, I'm reinstalling Windows this weekend. Oh yeah, the IE I run is 6.0.

I have had the same problem. And I believe it is Morpheus, or one of the programs that comes with it. Yes, I am one of the people telling him this was the problem he mentioned. The exact same thing happened to me about five months ago:

I had just installed Morpheus, only to find out that it wouldn't run on my computer because of my fire wall. So I uninstalled it. A new version came out a little later, and I decided to try it again. No such luck. This one I didn't uninstall. Then things started happening real fast: IE would take forever to open, up to a FULL MINUTE! IE would aslo crash every so often and not open after force quitting. And, like Haux, I would have to restart to get it to work.

Then it got a lot worse: IE stopped working. Period. Would not work at all, no matter what I did. Several minor applications began freezing, forcing me to force-quit them. Since IE was dead, I was forced to use Netscape. But after a while, even that stopped working.

Then I noticed that one application kept freezing: a program called SaveNow. I had never seen this program before. I didn't install it. I figured out what save now was after a little while: it is a program that opens a pop-up to a shopping web site any time you visit certain sites online. I couldn't uninstall it, so I did Add/Delete and got rid of it. The problems did not get better.

Things got so bad that I sent my computer in to be worked on. I thought they would wipe it, but all they did was run ScanDisc and defrag it. I could have done that. Oh well, at least it was free.

Anyway! Problem solved! They fixed whatever was causing the problem, and all my programs were left untouched. Except morpheus. Morpheus was gone. Odd I though. So I decided to install it again, one last time to see if it would work. What I ended up getting was KaZaA, the exact same thing as Morepheus. It actually worked.

But I had only downloaded ONE song when I began having problmes again. IE was taking a while to open again, and a few programs would not open. I decided not to risk it. I uninstalled KaZaA. I still had problems though. So I did a search and guess what I found? SaveNow. I deleted it and restarted.

This last event happened about a month ago. Since then I have had no problems whatsoever.

Haux, I suggest that, after you reinstall Windows, reinstall Morepheus, then KILL SaveNow. I believe that this is what is causing the problems.

I've been using IE for months, and just about a week and a half ago updated to a newer version (5.50) and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I have a 56K dialup modem, so I'm used to things being a trifle slow, but the popups have never caused me any grief, either here or any other site that uses them. Yes, it can be annoying that they pop up to the front no matter what you're doing, but a quick click and it's not an issue.

This SaveNow almost sounds like a virus of sorts, appearing magically like that. It might be possible, too, that if your computer is older it isn't running as smoothly as possible with the most recent IEs.

MusicCity, the company owning Morpheus, has spyware (SaveNow) packaged with its software to support the FREE service they provide to you so they don't lose money. If you check out the privacy section, it should all be there, simply that MusicCity doesn't want to lose money so they do this, so whats the big deal?

Just get WinMX (winmx.com)

Yeah it really annoying if it dosn't find a page and gives an error it stops looking on the internet and just keeps loading C;\windows\error.html or something without even trying!
I don't have to restart the computer but i have to disconect and reconnect to get it to work, closeing all the pages.

Kazaa is spyware... I had heard that Morpheus is not. Can anyone verify this?

I've got everything but the music downloading application you have. Heed the advice of everyone here, get rid of that one and get WinMX. And get rid of everything that came with Morpheus, plus do a virus scan if you can.
