Coaster Enthusiasts part of GP?

This is an on-going argument in the coaster community: Are coaster enthusiasts part of the general public? Post your thoughts/comments.

Yes - because we do not have any special priveledges (sp?) and we do not speak with high officials or the companies. We don't know a lot of things and we are normal paying costumers (sp?) of parks. We are all equal.

No - because most of us are not as ignorant as a lot of other people not obsessed with roller coasters.

It may be seen both ways, so discussing it is pointless.

I think they are concidered the GP. The parks dont care weather or not you know nothing about coasters or you know everything. People think just because they know how fast every ride is that they are better then everyone else. I dont think that is right and it isnt true.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but one is not GP if they own a season pass. They are only GP if they buy a one day ticket.

I agree with Raptor. Being thrifty doesn't make you an enthuiast. They are most definitely part of the GP.

I get alot of people asking me questions when im at parks. I think its cuz i wear my Florida Coaster club shirt. Alot of the GP asks questions to me. Which i really enjoy.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Some of us on this site are always GP since they work at the park and they become Rdie-op's instead of the GP.

No because if your GP IMO is based upon your level of interest in a coaster. I you love coasters and you know a lot about them, then your an anthusiast. If you see coasters just as another thing in life, the your the GP

Officially, everybody is part of the "general public". A park could care less if you're an enthusiast or not, and 49/50 coaster enthusiasts don't get any special privilages. So, we are part of the GP in the eyes of others, but we ourselves know more than the GP, which makes it OK for us to consider us apart from the GP. The GP only knows that coasters are fun and that they like riding them. A Coaster enthusiast knows much more, and usually lives for coasters.

Good point, Raptor. It would be interesting to see how many people who love coasters as much as I, for example, do, but (also like me) do not own season passes, do not travel to multiple parks regularly, in fact, may only go to 2-3 parks in a normal year (not that this year's been normal -- 19 months without and counting), and are not members of any "official" enthusiast groups, such as ACE. But I do still consider myself and enthusiast, because of my knowledge of and passion toward coasters.

On the other hand, I do agree that we're all part of the "general public" because we still eat the same food, wait in the same lines, and have the same opportunities at a park as anyone else does. The only time we might be differentiated is if we do attend club events that offer ERTs and so forth, but even then, not all enthusiasts do that anyway.

On another forum, someone had the signature "Unless you have a parking space, you're part of the GP." That's very true, as far as the theme parks (and I) are concerned. It is not to say you're lowly or not good. It's just the truth! Move on... you still know more than john smith and jane doe about coasters, and try to enjoy that!
