| | | The future of the Astrodome... The Astrodome has just played it's last rodeo, so what is next for the Dome? Everything is being moved to Reliant Stadium, and it costs money to keep a stadium standing. If there are no events to raise money, will some non profit orginization keep it up, or will the city just sit there and watch it rot? What do you guys think? It is a landmark in Houston, and I hope they decide to keep using it. |

| | | why the hell would you want that eye sore standing?
and how the hell did it get landmark status?
it was the first dome used in baseball but it wasn't the first dome used for sports(that belongs to Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena which was built 3 years before the AstroDome)
the second the Penguins open their new arena(when they get it) I want that piece of crap to crumble
it has memories but when all it does is cost money to keep standing when nothing can use it...

| | | What about the Pontiac Silverdome?
Lions are gone but High School Finals are there until 04.

| | | I don't know much about Detroit but if they plan on knocking the stadium down I don't think the high school finals will stop them, they'd probably just move to the Lions new stadium or a college stadium.

| | | Its really stupid of the city of Pontiac to keep that alful ugly money losing Silver Dome standing for high school games that will cost the city in matenince costs. If I were them I would waste no time taking bids from developers to put that prime property into tax generating use. Its prime property and a few developers already expressed intrest in it, one even offered to pay for the domes demolision costs. They should either develop something else for the Astro Dome property or remodel it for some other use like Detroit wants to do for the old Tiger Stadium. |

| | | I never knew that they had stopped using it... since when? (I moved from there 1 1/2 years ago...)
What's with this Reliant Stadium? I heard something about it when I went to Houston in October (bet you're all sick of hearing about that) but I thought they had just renamed the Astrodome (very unlikely...)

| | | I dont think that Houston is just going to build a new football stadium that will coast millions and not have the new team play in it. It will also be used for the olympic bid. |

| | | Whoops, I kept thinking Reliant was where the Astros played. Forgot all about Enron field. How long do you think it will be called Enron field? I want SF to bid for its name if Enron can't pay up. "Six Flags Field." Ahhhh... ;) |

The Silverdome plays host to a good number of conventions, they also have the monster trucks, motocross, supercross, snowcross, etc. As long as Pontiac makes money i doubt theyll take it down.
As for Astro Field, Tiger Stadium has many memories, but will it stop them from tearing it down? No, its old and has no use, eventually it will crumble and Detroit will lose money, which they already are, if they can they will keep it up, but nobody will want it. As for naming Enron Field, the team has already bought back the naming rights from Enron for 2 million dollars.

See my post above, they are building a new football field at it is almost complete. They will be using both stadiums for their olympic bid, the Astrodome will be used for opening/closing ceromonies: The Athletics venue is the world-famous Reliant Astrodome - "the eighth wonder of the world" - located at Houston’s Olympic Park. The 400-meter track located inside this venerable building will provide ideal competition conditions regardless of the weather. The track will remain in place after the Olympic Games and be available for climate-controlled international, national, collegiate and school meets. This venue may well become the mecca for future track and field competitions. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held in the Reliant Astrodome and the new stadium currently under construction. Other sports venues, including Artistic Gymnastics, are being located in the complex. The venue is 5.75 miles, 9.3 kilometers and 15 minutes driving time from the Village.

| | | Remember the dome in seattle that got blown up, well, that's the astrodome in a year or two. Now that the oilers ( or should i say my tn titans) are gone and the astros don't play there, what's the use. The turf is old and rotted. Just blow it and build a theme park.

| | | To TheFroce-I live in Houston. I know what is going on with our stadiums and teams and stuff. I live about 3 minutes from the stadium, and I see it alot. All of the glass is on, and I belive the roof is on or is almost on. Right now, the focus is on the insinde of the stadium. But thanks for typing that for all of the other people. The astrodome would be used for Track & Field in the olympics, but I guess you might hve said that. And to birdie311, they arent going to blow up the astrodome and build a theme park when there is a theme park litterally ACROSS THE STREET. And, the area where the dome is is owned by the city of Houston, and will be used as parking for the new stadium. You want to know why the parking for SFAW isnt totally ridiculous? It is becuase the lot is owned by Houston.
