| | | This was CLOSE... Earth was almost hit by a giant asteroid 4 days ago, and NASA didn't know about it until today!

| | | Wow! I guess the next catashtrophe(I dunno!) might happen on December 13, 2012. They say a mysterious planet might hit us, Planet X, or an asteroid.

| | | This happened not too lopng ago as well. An asteroidcome close to the Eatrhs orbit. I guess it is a hit or miss thing, it said 1 in 10 million, but that says that there is a chance.
Hmmm...o well, cosmic population control. |

That's a funny thing to laugh about. I read your comment and cracked up. That's kinda scary that there's an "astronomical blind spot." Man, that must suck to notice that we could have died after it whizzes by us! I hope this doesn't happen any time soon. I still haven't ridden Beast at night ;)

| | | If this interests you, I'd suggest reading a book called Lucifer's Hammer. I read it around 1980 or so. Much better than the two movies based on asteroids.

| | | I honestly can't see how you can have an "astronomical blindspot." We have everything we need to see th spacearound us. Oh well, chances are it'll never happen again.

| | | It probably wasn't as close as they say it is, or it would have caused major chaos. We would have heard about it on the news.

They said it was part of the sky that isn't monitored, or it was blinded because of the sun. Something like that, anyway. Also, I read once that only a small percent (something like 15% of the sky is actually monitored.

This could be true, because if they had said anything, the media would have blown it out of proportion, and everyone would have freaked out.

| | | 2093? Wonder if I'll still be around? (lets see, I'm 16 now, so I'd be 107 then, might be). If I am, I wanna be near it if it hits an ocean to see the world's biggest splash (and then I'd probably die a short time later, but oh well, if not from that then from old age, so might as well see history)
