Windtalkers

Who is going to see this movie? I know I am. It's about the Navajo Code Talkers and I think that's pretty awesome. I have met some Code Talkers since I live on the Navajo Reservation. Let me tell you, it's pretty amazing how much they helped in that war. This movie sounds like it may be really good, I just hope it doesn't revolve too much around the person watching over the Code Talkers. It should really be following the Code Talkers since they were the real heroes. Anyway, I saw on some Navajo message boards that I regularly visit that it's going to open a few days early in my town!!! Yep. On June 12, the film will be shown in Kayenta, AZ! That's supercool! I hope I can catch a showing of it, but it might be super packed. They're saying that 90% of Navajos are going to see this film. I love it and I can't wait for this film!

One more thing. If you're ever heading to Monument Valley, be sure to stop at the Burger King in Kayenta. It's got the largest Code Talker exhibit in the world (or so I'm told) and it's really awesome. It tells a lot. Alright. Enough plugging my town and this movie. I hope what they said above about it coming here before the opening date of the 14th is true and I hope I can get a ticket!

I think I remember something about that movie. It looked cool enough. I love movies so I'll probably end up seeing it. MAybe. My parents freak about R-rated movies. Does anyone know what it's rated and when it's coming out?

I mignt watch it, but not with high hope, after John Woo's big flop in MI 2.

The truth is, not everyone can be Steven Speilberg. Roland Emmerich (director of ID4 and Patriot) found out the hard way.

Meh, I still like Jon Woo. Which will probably be the only reason why I'll go see it. Only because I'm not a big Nic Cage fan. And I'm kinda sick of all the WWII movies that have been coming out in the last four years. And I agree it'd be a good idea to focus on the windtalkers themselves, but it doesn't look likely based on early info--it seems more focused around Cage's character protecting these guys in battle, which just sounds like an excuse for more battle scenes. But i'll still go see it.

Being a large part Navajo, I know it's almost required for me to go see this movie, but it's one I've wanted to see since I saw the first commercial for it, so I've got no problem with going to see it. I'm gonna have to wait until opening day though. Still, can't wait, looks amazing.

Yes, the code talkers in the Pacific during World War II were heros, but they were not the "real" heros. Mostly everyone who served was a hero in some way or another. Show some respect for the fighting man.

I'm going to see Windtalkers as soon as it comes out.

Cobra, I wasn't saying the code talkers were the only heroes in the war. I was comparing them to the people who protected them. I'm basically claiming my biasness for the Navajos over the people who protected them, which I hope this film is not centered around the protectors. That sentence was rather confusing. Bedtime!:sun:

Yes, I'm planning to see it. I'm hooked on WWII movies--my dad and I used to sit around watching them on video. Now he's gone, and it's still a tradition for me.

It looks pretty good. I read about the codetalkers in a WWII book and they made a big contribution to the war effort so they finally get the respect they deserve with a movie about their efforts. I will more than likely see it.

Alright, I went to the local Gigantaplex and saw the movie poster for this movie. It stars Nicolas Cage. And bad news, I'm pretty sure it's going to concentrate more on him then the Navajo. They're hyping how it's the star's job to protect them. I guess we'll see though

I cant wait!

I have known bout his movie since bout september. The movie was supposed to come out sometime in November of last year. My friend and i really wanted to see it. I believe SEPT.11 pushed it back but i could be wrong. This movie looks great i just hope its not another PATHETIC movie like Pearl Harbor was. I have high hopes for this movie though judging by what i've read and seen from this movie.

In case you havn't seen the trailer, it can be found at MGM's Windtalkers' site. The movie is rated R for pervasive graphic war violence, and for language, did you expect anyother rating? The premise of the movie is: "During WWII, the Navajo language was used for decoding top secret messages because it was a code that the Japanese did not have the resources (like Navajo speakers) to break. This movie plays upon the scenario that they might've tried to do something about that by kidnapping Navajo soldiers, such as Carl Yahzee (Adam Beach). The military was aware of the danger to the Navajo soliders, so they assigned a Marine (Nicholas Cage) to each as bodyguard, with the orders that if capture appears imminent, the Marine should kill the Navajo soldier as well. This movie is about two such soldiers who find themselves in danger; and at odds because they've also become friends... (Christian Slater and Roger Willie play another pair in a similar situation)"

I've known about this movie since 2000 actually and it was supoosed to be released June of last year but was pushed to November and I'm sure 9/11 had something to do with it's move to June 14 (flag day). I hope it's a good movie but don't expect big and it will be better then you think (hopefully).

Yikes.....I'm getting sick of John Woos clique action movies. I mean, everything the main character touches ends up in a ball of flames!

It looks the same way for this movie as well....I think I'll skip it. I am however a big fan of Nicolas Cage.
