| | | The Goof of the Star Wars saga I was wondering, how cheesy is it that the prequels (before what happened in the later three after episodes I II and III) the characters look more modern than the "future" characters. Seems more like we're going BACKWARDS in time. I know they were filmed in different decades, but imagine watching all the Star Wars movies from beginning to end, starting with Eps I and ending with whatver the last one was...WEIRD! |

| | | Yeah, I've thought about this...but at the same time, the question can be asked: "Why do EMPIRE and JEDI look so much better than Episode IV?" The easy answer is that the first one was made with a tiny budget. It was only after it was a hit were bigger budgets aproved for EMPIRE and JEDI.
But the answer in the actual story of SW is the Clone Wars. To loosely paraphrase SW, in the days before the dreaded empire, the Galactic Republic and its Jedi ruled in peace and justice. The Clone Wars come along, however, and inevitably the Empire is formed. So here's the answer: the Clone Wars destroys the age of decadence, replacing it with the cold efficieny of the Empire. So the original trilogy looks old and decayed due to the effects of the massive clone wars which scarred the universe--that's why everything's 'now' dirty and broken and destroyed, while the galaxy of Episode I was that of the clean and decadent. Some of this decay can be seen in Episode II, but I'd imagine we'll see the third episode begin to resemble the decay and destruction seen in VI-VI.

| | | How is it that the decay and destruction is also portrayed on the character's hairstyles, clothing, and looks? ;) :p |

| | | Its like Star Trek...the new show which is supposed to show the Enterprise before Kirk and the crew commanded it, I mean how is it possible that fashion went from modern (in Captain April's era) to bouffant hairdoos, beehive hairdos, and go-go boots in Captain Kirk's era? Heck even in the episiode "The Menagerie" of the first generation Star Trek (the 60s one), they had the sense to make Capt. Christopher Pike's Enterprise look much older, with teletype computers printing out instructions instead of computer monitors (gee think of it, we have more modern equipment than they had in the 23rd century.)
My biggest beef with the sequels to the original Star Wars (IV) was the pompous dialogue. The dialogue between Luke, Vader, and the Emperor sounds more to me like a dialogue between a bunch of archbishops at the Vatican. At least Harrison Ford never took the pompous dialogue seriously and kept it all light. And as we all know, Chewie got all the best lines in the movie. I think for Star Wars III - A Matter of Life & Darth, they should introduce platform shoes, bellbottom pants, lime-green leisure suits, and mood rings, just to help flow the movie into part IV. :p |

| | | Later on, "retro" becomes the new look for the Star Wars universe. :sun:
I also thought about the difference in technology in Episode 1 and 2 to Episodes IV, V, and VI. You really notice this in the technology of the ships they use. But, this can be explained: In Episodes IV, V, and IV, only desolate planets are seen - the most populated planet they visit is Tatooine, which is a ghetto. But, with the re-release of the first three, they added in some scenes of the "big city" planets, and they look the same.

| | | Yeah, this was discussed on www.moviemistakes.com or org, I forget. The general consensus is that it will all be explained in Episode 3. I really don't think that George Lucas would make that big of a mistake. I mean, this isn't even a MOVIE mistake, this is a SERIES mistake. HE'll come up with something.

| | | Yeah, and compare the Nubian cruiser of Episodes I and II to the Millennium Falcon... or the Yellow and grey Naboo fighters to the ghetto X-Wings.

| | | we already see the transition in episode II--the jedi starfighter bears more than a striking resemblence to the A-wing...the Trade federation battle ships are obviously precursors to the Death Star...the Republics clone ships are also precursors to the star destroyers.

| | | HAHAHA..
I have thought about this so much as well....
THey are covering it by stating that the empire falls so then they have to start over with not so good materials for ships and what not.
I also noticed how in the first scene of Episode 2 they had the guy with the helmet with the chin strap...just like the first scene in episode 4...so they are trying to transistion.

| | | I also noticed how the ships and the styles of things are much nicer in 1,2,3 but then in the later episodes, it's not as good. It's kind of funny. Also, I didn't like how Padme didn't age at all, yet anakin did, and now they are married. It's kind of weird b/c in the first episode, he's like 7 and she looks like she's about 17. Now she still looks like she's 17 and he looks like he's 17 lol.

| | | to be honest, i actually bought into padme's 'aging.' I thought Portman looked a lot older in EpII than EpI...she really did age alot in those three years.
