Why are thispagecannotbedisplayed people so RUDE?

I was at Holiday World with my wife, and again at Cedar Point, at both parks we saw those bright yellow shirts, and said Hi, how are you doing? and they just kept walking, and didn't say a word?

What did I miss?

Are these the new elite snobs of coaster enthusiasm, or what?

be friendly, it doesn't hurt

I don't know, but if you were one of them, would you stop and say hi to everyone you pass?

It's not just thispagecannotbedisplayed. It's all over.

Me personally, I tend to be very cautious of people that just come up to say hi, especially if I don't have a clue who they are.

But that was one thing that Holiday World did real well fending off with Stark Raven Mad. Everyone had name tags, which made it much easier to be friendly.

On a side note, you actually saw a couple people brave enough to wear those bright yellow ugly things? How could you see them to say hi over the glare? :p

Haha...yah, I think nowadays if you just say hi to a stranger, the answer is the back turn or the cold shoulder. If a strange man in a park came up and said hi, I'd probaly do the same thing. Just the way the world works.

Actually, I found that being in line for a coaster is the easiest way possible to start a conversation with a complete stranger.

well what would you expect them to say? maybe if you would have said "hi, i am also a coaster enthusiast" maybe they would have stopped and said something, but its kinda weird just saying hi whats up.

Yeah, when I go to parks I usually where my cedar point Shirt which says The Fearsome Five(has logos of MF, magnum, Mantis, Raptor, and Mean Streak) and someone usually notices my shirt in line and starts asking about cedar point and MF.

Let's refrain from bashing other sites and their members. If you want to talk about rude encounters with fellow enthusiasts, that's fine. Let's keep the conversation from going too far in that direction.

Truthfully, I don't think any one site has a monopoly on it. The site that we are on right now has its fair share of it.

Of course, some of it is situational. Like someone said, some people are not in the habbit of striking up a conversation with a total stranger while in line... especially if that stranger is being very pushy. I was at SFA recently and wearing my BGW "Fear the Four" T-Shirt and this one person comes up and just starts talking like he knew me all my life. No problem, I answered him... but he kept talking... and talking... and talking. Eventually I did my best to get as far away from him as I could. He probably went home and said "I saw this really rude guy wearing a BGW T."

Actually, I think it has something to do with this entire "interest" that we all share. Who ever came up with the label "Enthusiast" should be taken out and severly beaten about the head and shoulders! Some have taken this self appointed title and wear it like a badge of honor... a crown. Most of the know it alls and arrogant obnoxious "groupies" fall into the rude category.

While watching one of the coaster specials on TV, my wife asked...
"When is a person allowed to call themselves an 'Enthusiast'." I laughed and told her every one has a different deffinition of that word. She asked "Do you consider your self one?" I shook my head and said no... "I can't get my nose that high in the air. I'm just someone who likes coasters."

Well the dictionary definiton of enthusiast is " A person who is intensly invoved or preoccupied with a particular subject."
So in that case I qualify,as do many other posters, but I don't consider myself snotty or Having my nose high in the air.

thank you raptorxlc! i saw another one of slfake's posts in the oh boy gp at it again thread and it got me a little mad. there is no reason not to call ourselves enthusiasts. even tho that is a perfectly good term for it, i and evrryone else can call themselves whatever they want. dictionary.com says "one who is ardently absorbed in an interest or pursuit".

I don't think they're so rude. I remember I once said hi to one, and we carried a conversation for about 10 minutes in line for Batwing. It turned out to be SFAguy.

Because I for one, feel that clothes irritate my skin. What? Why are they RUDE? Oh, I thought you asked, "Why are they NUDE." My bad...how embarassing.

In any event, I find that most enthusiasts tend to be great. Yes, some like to talk like they know more than they really do but that is half the fun of it for me.
