tech question about pc

i have 3.06ghz pc. i assumed this was just the fastest p4, but i noticed while changing some stuff (i really hate xp it is diffcult to overide the automatic settings. i prefer more control and less user friendlyness) that dxdiag lists this:

CPU 3.06ghz (2 cpus)

Is this a mistake? i haven't physically opened the case to find out. Its not counting the HT as two by mistake is it?

Even more strange, device manager lists TWO seperate 3.06ghz processors! If only this was true. i doubt it, the performance isn't that fast on it. but i will check.

My solution: open the case and find out. I personally haven't heard of a Pentium 4 that is that fast, but there might be one. I wouldn't be too surprised if there were two 1.5ghz processors though.

Skye, you are correct. It's because of the Hyper Threading technology in the newest Pentium 4s that Windows XP reports two separate processors when in fact there's just one.

i guessed that. Thats a bit stupid, i mean xp isn't exactly old. i guess they'll fix it later. does xp even support dual processors? Probably not (most programs don't anywaY).

XP Home I don't think does, but XP Pro does.
